Alantin was mocking her. The decorous dorm rooms had turned grotesque with a simple change. The faerie in her room was dead asleep, sprawled on the tan sheets without a care in the world.
This was surely a mistake. There were several reasons why Rin was lying on the other side of her dormitory.
Number one, he could have accidentally thought that this was his room when it’s actually the room beside Sion’s. Number two, his roommate could have kicked him out and he decided to sleep on the first bed he saw. Number three, he was there because this was his room. The third possibility was the one that terrified Sion the most. Sadly, it was also the most likely.
“Wake up you annoying pixie”, she muttered before attempting to pick the faerie up from the bed and tossing him on the floor. She failed of course. Instead of relying solely on her brute strength Sion decided to depend on something much more reliable.
Magic.
A small drop of strength enhancement and she could fling Rin across the building if she chose to. But as much as Sion wanted to, she was pretty sure that physical violence would result in expulsion, and that was something she would have liked to avoid at all costs. Even if it meant that she would have to deal with a very conscious faerie.
“Wha-what’s happenin?”, Rin drowsily mumbled.
Sion thought of herself as a relatively good liar. She also believed that she was an exceptional actor when she put her mind to it. This was the time for her talents to shine.
“You tumbled over, I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone so restless while they sleep. Is this your room too?”
Sion’s voice was perfect, smooth as glass and sweet as fresh fruit. The only problem was that Rin was not a tosser, and he clearly knew that.
“Ya sure I rolled over? I don’t think I’ve ever done that, not since I was a kid”, he said. A frown was pressed onto his face, and Sion thought that he looked like a child who had his candy stolen. A child with two new shimmery dew drop wings.
A faerie’s wings were their most precious object. When damaged, a faerie would have a large risk of death and damage. For that reason, most faeries chose to conceal their wings or fold them inside themselves. Rin must have been so startled that he had revealed to her his wings.
And they were gorgeous.
Pale and silver they enveloped his body, pointing out into the air. They gently swished against the soft breeze, the miniscule jewels that adorned tips creating a small whirlwind of rainbows. Each gem was a different colour, shape and size. On the edge of Rin’s left wing was a shining heart like gem, it’s ruby red colour hypnotising Sion.
How could such a grimy boy have such intricate wings?
“Vuela?”
Sion snapped into reality, and chided herself for staring too long. She had no business wondering about the boy’s wings, no matter how lovely they were. She had more troubling things to worry about. Like why he was in her room.
“Is this your dorm too?”, she repeated.
Rin’s frown vanished at her inquiry.
“You’re my roommate! Ain’t I the luckiest boy in the world, I was worrying about having to act all posh in my room. The act kinda fades away when your tired, but I guess I don’t have to worry about that anymore do I!”
The irony was biting.
Rin wouldn’t have to act. She would, and with double the risks. Sion could have sworn that Orion had enrolled her in a one room dorm. So why the hell was there a double-roomed dorm with a roommate in it having her name on its door?
The faerie must have done. But how? He’s a peasant, not with a sliver of royalty on him. He wouldn’t have the power to do so. Was there a mistake that occurred in the office? If so she would have to go to the staff and inquire about it. But that would simply buy her more attention, and that was something she could definitely do without.
Sion stumbled onto her bed, her worries briskly draining her of her energy. The soft pillows warmly welcomed her and the blankets were the most comfortable silken texture. Without thinking of the now confused faerie, and all her infinite troubles Sion fell to the world of dreams.
