The music blared above the hustle and bustle of the city at sunset. Wade had accompanied his sister Morgan shopping and, as they walked down the sidewalk, he naturally recognized Kyle's voice in the distance. By then he had memorized every nuance of that voice.
When he began to catch glimpses of Kyle, Bryan, and Richard, Wade stopped his gaze from drifting towards them. He knew well that his sister would start to pester him, so he thought that ignoring them and continuing to walk would be the best choice.
But Morgan wasn't stupid. As soon as they were in front of the square, she stopped to watch the performance. She waved to the band and they smiled back, unable to let their instruments go. Only Kyle waved his hand before resuming to play.
«You should go for it.» Morgan said to her brother. «I know you're scared, but the way you look at him, it's clear that you feel something.»
Wade sighed. «I don't know how I feel about him.» he admitted.
«Hurry and find out, or it will be too late.»
«I don't want to destroy our friendship.»
Morgan shook her head. «You can't let fear stop you.» she claimed. « If you have this fear, it means, deep down, you already know what you feel. And the more you try to repress your feelings, the more they will try to come out and slowly destroy you from the inside.» she added.
Wade listened to her without ever stopping staring at Kyle.
«Remember that phrase? Love is like a cough, you can't hide it or repress it.»
«I'm not sure it's love.» Wade insisted. It was difficult to understand his feelings when the closest model of love to him hadn't worked. What could assure him that it would be different for him, that he wouldn't end up the same way as his parents?
«What do you think it is then?» Morgan asked but got no answer.
Wade started walking again without her.
Morgan sighed then went after him before he got too far away.
They didn't speak to each other for the rest of the time.
