Rahul was sitting on the chair opposite Mizan. He looked pretty relaxed. Being in the interrogation room and feeling relaxed were contradictory things, but Rahul had nothing to fear. Rahul began his statement, “Well, nothing actually Krit and I were getting bored at the party, so I thought that we’d celebrate somewhere alone. We didn’t want to disturb Raj. He was enjoying with Shelby. I was considerate about the age of Krit and knew that he didn’t like the noise and the atmosphere of such places. We didn’t talk about anything special. Only that I was very happy with the decision of Raj and the way he paid attention to my words, it was all because of Krit that Raj agreed on it. I was just being thankful to Krit for everything.”
Then there was silence between them. Mizan wanted to hear more, but Rahul had nothing more to share. When Mizan realized Rahul won’t say more, he asked, “What could be the reason for Krit calling Raj just after you left his house?”
This time, Rahul seemed a bit uncomfortable. He felt anxious when he replied, “I don’t know that. There was nothing between us three that was hidden in any way.”
“And what about your wife?”
Rahul stumbled a bit at the mention of his wife but soon recovered, “I am sure she would have also known everything.”
Mizan took a deep breath and said, “Okay, Mr. Rahul, you can go now. But please don’t leave the city without letting us know.”
“Sure, officer.”
Rahul buttoned his suit and got up to leave.
Mizan signaled towards the glass that the interrogation was over. Someone must have been recording from the other side of the glass, thought Rahul as he looked at his reflection in the glass while leaving the room. Once he left, Sahil asked Mizan, “What do you think, sir?”
“He is telling a lie. I want to see all the photographs of the party.”
“All right, sir.”
Mizan then took his leave from the police station. He had many thoughts running inside his mind, but he wanted to relax for a moment. Since the time he landed in these foreign lands, his mind was not at rest. He wanted some peace. He walked towards the parking lot, and after passing through a few of the cars, he finally found his. He sat in the car and drove towards the only peaceful place he knew in the city. Mizan continued going through the straight roads to the curvy roads of the mountains. Finally, after about an hour’s drive, he reached where he used to visit in his childhood. He parked his car at the side and reached the fence from where the whole city was visible. Finally, he found some peace.
