Eldora met his eyes with a glare, but didn’t look at any other part of him. “You’re…” she stopped herself from continuing.
“What? I heard that tone in your voice. No woman has ever spoken to me that way.” Dagonet’s voice was tinged with venom.
“I’m not surprised.” Eldora muttered, more to herself than him.
“What?” He snapped.
“Get in the bath.” Eldora replied as she finished untying his breeches and then yanked them down.
Dagonet glared, but obeyed. He continued, “Tell me. That was disgust in your voice. It’s never good to garner disgust from a woman.”
Eldora finally managed to look at him with something other than negativity. “What makes you say that?”
“Women feel disgust easily, and at appropriate things. In our culture, a man who earns a woman’s disgust is not fit to be king.” Dagonet described.
Eldora grabbed a scrubbing brush from the shelf and began dragging it down his arms, making him yelp. “Careful, woman! Anyway… I must earn your respect if I expect to be king, so tell me how I have disgusted you.”
Eldora swallowed. “Do you really want to hear it? Will I be beheaded if I say it?”
Dagonet shook his head. “All humans have trouble digesting Lalookin when they first arrive. We don’t hold it against them.”
You’re a monster. She wanted to say to him. Her cowardice overpowered her, however, and she ended up saying, “I just… do you have to kill Gruhath like that? Isn’t there any way to spare them?”
Dagonet sighed. “Ah, the heart of a foolish woman…”
Eldora shot him a venomous glare and resisted pinching the back of his neck. She waited for him to continue.
“Fraunt explained this to you already, I’m sure, but perhaps he wasn’t firm enough in his explanations. People who use Legantz in the way the Gruhath do are corrupted down to their hearts and actions. At first, they think they can control it to make the world a better place… but by their own words and experiences that have been documented, a lot of Gruhath slip away from reality, and when they wake up, they find that they have killed innocents, father, mothers, children… even their own families. They can control their actions for a time, but then the Legantz gets corrupted due to the way they use it, and it begins to control them in unforeseeable ways. Yes, I execute them most of the time because if I let them live, they become a danger to themselves and others.” Dagonet explained.
Eldora searched for words to say about this. "But there must be some way to help them.”
