The next day when Bo showed up to school, he notably didn’t have Carter at his side. Refusing to respond to Carter’s messages, he turned his phone on silent and got ready for the day. He even walked himself to school, something he hadn’t ever done since Carter got his license.
It was unusual and he still felt sore after their fight from yesterday, not able to stop thinking about it. He knew Carter was probably contemplating it too.
They used to fight a lot as kids, but as they matured, it lessened. That’s why Bo was so surprised when Carter first brought up that he thought two omegas together were wrong. His story was that apparently, omegas are just not compatible with each other, both physically and emotionally.
Bo was absolutely flabbergasted. How could Carter be friends with an omega all his life and still believe all the crap the government was spewing? The government was obviously run by privileged alphas who only allowed things that benefitted them to happen.
The whole concept of fated mates was so important to society, as the government was heavily tied to religious beliefs. To be together with someone before meeting your fated mate was considered scandalous. Tied with the fact that omegas couldn’t be fated mates meant that a relationship between omegas was completely forbidden.
Honestly, it was a preposterous notion. It was just a rule meant to tie down people and force them to be within the threshold of ‘normal’ defined by alphas.
There was nothing actually unbecoming about the relationship between Bo and Sol. Bo thought that Carter should at least know that.
As Bo made his way around people in the hallway, all trying to get to class, he saw a distinct figure across the way.
Carter was standing in the middle of the hallway, looking around. Maybe it was due to getting lost as it was only the second day, but Bo’s gut feeling told him that Carter was looking for him.
Ducking out of the way, Bo was able to just escape Carter’s line of sight. He knew that they had to talk at some point, but in the middle of the whole school would be a disaster.
Peeking around the corner, he thought that he got away with it until he spotted Carter staring straight at him.
Turning back around and running away, Bo felt his heart begin to beat out of his chest. He wasn’t a great runner and so he knew that he had to hide at some point to beat Carter.
The bathroom door squeaked as it opened. Checking under all the stalls, Bo made sure there was no one else there and then locked himself in a stall.
Just as he heard the washroom door squeak open again, a booming voice spoke.
“And where do you think you’re going, young man? You better be getting to your classes before you end up late.”
Saved by the bell, Bo heard the door close and then let out a huge sigh. Never in his life did he think he would have to run away from Carter someday, but there he was.
But, as Bo opened the stall door and stepped out, he realized that he would be the one late for class. Anxiety renewed, and with no one there to calm him down, he started to panic again.
He could feel his heart squeeze and his throat tighten. Starting to hyperventilate, he thought of what his teachers and classmates would think of him coming late. It was only the second day of school. They would probably despise him and think of him as a bad student.
Trash. Stupid. Ugly. These words flowed through his head. He wasn’t those things, and yet he felt convinced that that was how he was perceived. First impressions matter. He had already messed it up by being too anxious to speak the day before. Their opinion of him would only worsen as they find out what he’s done.
It felt like his world was ending as Bo fell to the floor in a fit of tears. How would he ever be able to come back from that? Once someone starts to dislike him, it always escalates and then his whole school may hate him.
He was obviously overreacting, but he could only see that in hindsight. At the moment though, he was lost in his own world, torturing himself with ‘what ifs’.
It took at least an hour before Bo was able to even breathe normally. His crying always drained him emotionally to the point he just couldn’t feel anymore. His anxiety felt nulled and it felt like nothing mattered anymore.
Knowing that it was probably a terrible decision, Bo left the school to have some time to himself. He would regret it later when he felt his emotions come back to him.
