When Francesca walked in with my son's potential teacher, a jolt of electricity shot through my entire body.
It didn't happen to me often that I found someone so instantly attractive but Amir was simply breathtaking.
Ink black hair surrounded a perfectly symmetrical face with a sculpted nose and sparkling brown eyes that complimented his light caramel complexion. He oozed allure and I already wanted to know more about him.
My mind conveniently skipped over the fact that he was around twenty years my junior and would undoubtedly have zero interest in me, except on a professional level.
Could Jason benefit from additional private lessons? In my new apartment, perhaps? Fuck, should I consider taking up violin lessons myself? Was I too old to learn?
Focus, Ethan!
Then, my brain did that fucked up thing, when first interacting with someone I found attractive. It was a kind of self-sabotage that made me seem like an utter moron.
"Hey," I said, trying to sound cool. "I'm Jason, Ethan's dad... I mean, I'm Ethan... I'm... nice to meet you."
What a fucking idiot! How was he going to take me seriously now? What was Francesca thinking behind those raised eyebrows?
He was kind enough not to react to my stupidity and said, "Amir, a pleasure."
My job required me to make presentations in front of hundreds of people on a regular basis, yet in that very moment I was at a complete loss for words.
Luckily, Francesca intervened by saying, "I do advise making a decision promptly, Amir's slots will be filling quickly."
I almost snorted. How had the dirty part of my mind already managed to conjure an image from her unintended innuendo?
"You know what, I think I will defer to your expertise, Francesca. When can Jason start?"
My sudden change of attitude caught her by surprise but Amir jumped in and said, "Let me check my schedule. Do you prefer weekdays or weekends?"
Definitely weekends! Can I sit in on all the classes? Actually, will you take a selfie with me right now?
Shut up, brain!
"Perhaps weekends would be best," I said, as casually as I could muster.
"How about an extra half hour straight after his regular class?" Amir asked, checking his phone.
"That makes sense," I said, glancing at my watch as if I had somewhere else to be.
"Perfect!" he said, "We can start next week!"
