Entering the church behind Adam we don't make it to ar inside before I see a familiar face.
"Joshua, What are you doing here?" Pastor Elijah said with a look of genuine surprise covering his face. but that didn't last long as it soon turned into a burst of fear and anger, even before we could respond.
"Adam what's the meaning of this, you didn't tell me the awakened was Joshua?" his anger directed straightly to Adam completely disregarding me.
"I didn't think it was all that important considering what you know." Adam dealt with him like a father dealing with a child throwing a tantrum. completly dosing Paster E's anger calming him and leaving him shaking his head.
"At least it's not as bad as what your parent thinks Joshua?" he said offhandedly trying to show away his previous actions but catching my interest.
"They thought you were getting into dagga." he said jokingly though his face itself still held a bit of fear, but I couldn't help but laugh.
"Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha" each one joining in one by one till calmed down.
"Joshua, would you mind waiting outside for us please?" A polite question covering his command so I submitted.
"Sure thing." I around to the back catching loose words that I had no intention of caring for. I was there for a bit before Adam joined me again looking a bit angry.
"Sorry about this Joshua just wait here for a bit longer while I fetch Mandella." his words final as he jumped away in a blur leaving me alone again. Waiting outside at the back of the church for Adam to return I get a message on my phone but before I get a chance to check my phone. Landing in hot Adam was standing tall holding mandella in an all too familiar pose. Carrying him like a sack of potatoes in his arms while Mandella lay there silent and defeated just accepting it.
"So Mandella will be handling the first step of your training. Isn't that right mandella." Adam punctuated that by effortlessly lifting Mandella to his eyeline.
"Yes sir." Mandella's voice was barely loud enough to hear but filled with contempt as his gaze began to bore a hole into the floor.
"Good." Adam with a familiar deep smile quickly tossed Mandella across the room towards me. In shock, I try to rush to him to try to catch him, but in defiance of me and gravity, he slowly turns midair and lands perfectly upright while I stumble up in shock in a cruel inversion of what should have happened. Stuck there for a few seconds just looking up at him before he offered a hand silently and led me back into the church.
"So what do you know already?" he asks with an expression that he would rather be anywhere else.
"That I am a descendent of Cain." I respond truthfully
...
"is that it?" his blank face looks directly at me, which I can only respond back to with a blank expression of my own.
"Basically" my answer seemed to stir something within him as he started to shake his head. his tone and way of acting beginning to piss me off.
"You are firstly an awakened and secondly a descendent." I responded with a blank expression for him to begin to get annoyed.
"First you received the blessing of manna then you Received the blessing of manna, then your descendent legacies?" again a matter of fact with no room to argue or complain.
"Manna? Why manna?" the word felt familiar but just out of reach, probebly reading my expression he explained further.
"Named after the food given by God, to the Israelites, during the exodus. As manna was one food for the body now it is food for the soul. or so they say." with a flippant gesture of his hand he waves off any questions or interest.
"Huh?"
"It came to a vote, manna won, not my choice but they aren't going to change it," he said with a mildly annoyed tone.
"I mean it makes a bit of sense if they are looking for inspiration from the bible." I say thoughtlessly.
"If that book that tells you that someone and their entire extended family is dead also tells you you are somehow related to them what are you supposed to believe." he looks vindicated for a moment but soon realizes what he said, but I paid little attention to him. I was silent, it was the question I had held inside since I had heard about me being a descendent how could Cain even be an option. but he didn't let me linger on my thoughts for long.
"So what have you been able to do or see during our fight with the demon?" he asked tilting his head ever so slightly.
"I was most of the fight but everything was a bit blurred or maybe transparent, I could see most things" racking my head for the previous night's events.
"A partially awakened, ok." He mumbled out loud to himself. before I could get a word in to him he snapped out of his thinking.
"So let's get the most important thing done first" his words were quickly followed by him grabbing my arm, as soon as he pulled away a symbol flared onto my hand, could only see the light, as I a partially awakened. It was in the shape of a partial wreath tipped by one leaf with 3 leaves on either side in a stacked pattern.
"Maybe I shouldn't be telling you this now but that symbol is one of my legacies, The 'mark of the arc' allows me to mark someone and boost their abilities both physical and spiritual."
"For you, that means that I will be strengthening your mana, if are you ready I suggest you get ready this will probably hurt."
A Pulsing heat ignited from my hand from the Symbol then trailed too deep within my body and blazed into intense heat.
"Eina, Wat die Fok!" but my protests fell on deaf ears as the heat continued to grow pressure began to build and I fell to my knees, my overclocked heart rate breaking through my chest. rushing beside me mandella begins to give me instructions, though I can bearly hear him through the beating in my ears.
"Lis___ You need to let ___ ___rgy flow through you, ___ need __ breath." his broken words seemed less than helpful as the heat and pressure kept rising feeling as if I was a sealed kettle waiting to burst. The heat burned and scoured inside me blurring my world leaving me in a world edged by darkness and surrounded by the frantic beating of my own heart.
A small relief washed over me as then I could see Mandella casting a spell over me. it soothed the burning a little but the pressure still builds and builds in my chest, sending me into familiar spasms as my breath escapes me, filling my vision with darkness more and more. Till all is black and my breath leaves my lungs.
From deep within me a seal is released accompanying the burst of light the deep burning heat began to permeate and dissipate throughout my body instantly flooding me with a sense of release and relief, Forcing me to take a breath. The Burst of light was so intense even Mandella needed to cover his eyes till they stabilized into a more constant glow. The light felt soft and warm and rejuvenate me. My vision restores and the burning heat subsides, allowing me to finally get a full feel of my situation. lawing there on the ground contorted and
"What happened to just Breath," he asks through rouged breaths in a tone just below a shout but full of worry
"Maybe next time you can let me know before you start roasting me from the inside out." I reply with barely contained anger or irritation at the situation.
Dropping down next to me he begins to shake his head, "But I have some good news for you you are now awakened, you are one of us."
Now it's just us sitting there in the silence of success surrounded by the pressure of the next words to be said.
Who's bloods flows through your veins, what did they do for or against you. After 70 + years the descendents of biblical figures have started awakwning in great numbers again and
Joshua Prince is a newly awakened descendent of Cain is awakened to a world hidden around him. Will he be able to stand strong in his ways and beliefs or will he be swayed by the demons, and those who oppose the fragile balance of power that has been upheld in the shadows.
