I Wish You Never Discovered the Occult

I Wish You Never Discovered the Occult

Jan 25, 2024

After a few more encounters with guards, I made it to the server room. I threw in a flashbang into the room, but there were no screams. I kicked open the door and started pointing my gun and scanning the room for people.

The server room was large. There were rows and rows of computer towers with blinking green and solid red lights. I secured the room and was glad to learn I was the only one in here. Finally, the struggle is almost over and I’ll…

An explosion erupted from the front of the room. The first five rows were completely incinerated.

Standing in front of the door was Luana, breathing heavily. “Look what you made me do!” Luana screamed, shooting fireballs in every direction. The fireballs knocked over some more servers, setting the room ablaze.

“What do you mean? You could have used the door like a regular person; No one told you to come into the room with such a grand entrance!” I said, diving for coverage behind a server.

“No, you made me do this! If you weren’t trying to break our connection, then I wouldn’t even be here!” Luana said, shooting another fireball in the direction she heard my voice.

I dived out of the way from the server that exploded. As I rolled into a crouching position, aiming my gun at her, there was a pair of purple hand cuffs flying directly at me. I jumped out of the way just in time to miss the shackles. Thank the lord for danger sense.

“Why won’t you take me back!” Luana sent more fireballs and handcuffs in my direction.

“Luana, you watch my every move. I can’t even poop in peace.” I said, jumping from server to server for cover. There was no time to rest because if I stopped to catch my breath, she’d hit me with one of those fire balls, or worse, catch me with those handcuffs.

“I’m looking after you because I care! Did you go to the doctor’s about that mole on your left butt cheek?”

“I get bi-weekly screenings, its nothing to be concerned about. You’re not my girlfriend anymore. Stop being so concerned about my health,” I said, now facing her. That comment must have struck a nerve because her face soured, and she hesitated before sending the next fireball.

Taking the opportunity, I slowed her perception of time by 5 seconds and shot at her. Realizing she was under my spell, she swiftly broke free from its effects. But she was a second too late as the bullet grazed her cheek.

Tears welled up in her eyes, sparks surrounded her head, then, with a scream, her hair erupted into flames. “I can’t believe you shot at me!” Luana screamed.

“You’ve been throwing fire balls at me since you got here. Stop being so goofy.” I said, checking how much ammo I have left in my current gun. It was empty. I stopped gathering ammo and flashbangs because I thought I was almost finished the mission. What a rookie mistake.

I threw the empty pistol toward the other towers. I quickly conjured an illusion around the empty mag and made it look as if I was running in between them. Falling for the bait, she blasted an array of fireballs at the illusion.

Taking advantage of her distraction, I quickly made my way in the opposite direction. “It's been over for a while, Luana. You need to let me go, I said, still running.

“Why can’t you just love me!” Launa screamed as she started sending a random volley of handcuffs and fireballs throughout the room. I focused all my magical powers on superhuman reflex and danger sense to avoid the chaos. I immediately took cover behind a nearby pillar and waited until she was done.

Luana’s havoc went on until there was only one tower left. She is probably going to be more precise with whatever she shoots since she has calmed down a bit and there is only one tower left. If I don’t have a clear shot of the server, then she’ll either incinerate me or, worse, chain me up. I took out my last pistol from my suit jacket, with only one magazine left, I need to make every bullet count.

“Surrender before I accidentally kill you, Karlo!” Luana said. Her screams echoed around the room.

Leaving cover with raised hands, I pretend to surrender. In one hand, I held my loaded pistol and in the other, I held the empty mag. Casting an illusion, I made it look as if it were full. The server was on the other side of the room. If this is going to work, I need to get closer.
