We enter the kitchen. This room appears to be the only one that isn’t completely painted white. I suppose that makes sense. Food seems like it can be quite messy at times. We open the refrigerator. We have many choices, but none of them look appealing at the moment due to vomiting this morning. We sit on the couch and feel something underneath our leg. We lean back up onto our feet to remove the object from our back pocket. It appears to be a cellphone.
We tap the screen to reveal a photo of us holding a small infant. This photo gives us a comforting feeling, but hurts us as well. This… is our daughter. Due to the embezzling, the mother… our wife… had left with our daughter. It hurts us emotionally to think about it. Romance is not something we are familiar with, yet it feels quite painful to go without when you desire so intensely. There is a bubble icon. We believe this means we have a message.
We press it, opening a list of messages sent to us. Several of them are those thanking us for such a good party last night. We must have celebrated something prior to this day. This name... Nicole… she’s our wife. We click the message to view it. There is a message list between her and us. It appears this mortal attempted to remedy their relationship last night, poorly spelling words and occasionally making no sense at all. Her response says “If you have to be drunk to message me, then you’re not man enough for me to give you another shot. Sorry.”
For some reason, this hurts us emotionally as well. However, they appear to speak with us still, so perhaps we could still remedy the situation and learn about romance and childcare. As we continue to look through our messages, we see another name that’s very familiar to us. Keith… our manager. We tap his message. It says “We got an opportunity to fix your rep and get us back in the scene! Call me!” This seems hopeful. Let’s see what they have to say.
We click the icon of an older model of telephone under Keith’s name. It begins ringing. Three rings later, they finally answer. “Hey Andre! Took you long enough! I told you to stop hitting the bottle so hard!” This individual appears to have a surplus of energy in the morning. “Yeah. That was our- my fault. I should have thought about it.” “Don’t worry about it! Anyway! I got a small publicity stunt you can pull to get back in the news I’m a positive light!” His words fill us with hope. However, something in our mind is telling us that we can’t fully trust this individual.
“What kind of stunt is it?” We ask with some confusion. “There’s a rock band performing in Cold Rock Theatre today! They said they’d be interested in a collab song, if you’re interested, of course!” A collaboration between a rapper and rock and roll? From memory, there have been some large successes from this kind of music. Perhaps this will be successful. “Yeah. We can try that out.” “Great!” Keith says excitedly. “Get dressed and meet me at the theatre! We’ll meet the band before they go on!” The phone goes quiet as Keith hangs up. We sit in silence for a moment as we think on the situation.
Death knows itself and the rule it controls. All that lives must one day die. However, for the first time in their existence, Death questions why living things strive to continue when deep in their minds, they understand that all must eventually succumb to the rule. What makes them want to fight so hard to live? There must be something that keeps them from seeking the inevitable end.
Death speaks to the creator to ask for advice but still doesn't understand the creator's reasoning. Therefore, the creator allows for Death to experience life, sending them into the bodies of recently deceased people, and allowing them to find their own answers to their questions until the rule claims the deceased once more.
