Jei strolled all across the floating city the night before the last day, shadowed by her sister, whom she practically raised if not for the elders who took them in due to her status as a Priestess.
"Do you truly not wish to take the title, Juniel?"
"I truly wish to. Yes."
"Can I ask why?"
"You see as far as reaching the Tree. I see further, sister. That is not a blessing that can be shared with everyone."
"Yes... it is too powerful."
"Instead, I have to be free from the shackles of being a Priestess of Unda."
"I understand now," Jei nodded.
"Can I suggest then..."
"Go ahead."
"A little boy will be born in three days time. He will wake with the eyes of someone who has been born before, but the heart of a child nevertheless. His mother, she will awaken to her visions because of him."
"And I suppose, with time, he will become Priest?"
"No. He will marry an Ignis woman who can see through the fires of her magic."
Jei snapped around.
"You cannot suggest that an Ignis rule over the Unda?"
"I do not suggest a future foretold."
"This cannot-"
"But it will, just as you have seen that you do not die and mourn eternally."
Jei swallowed back whatever it was she wanted to say for her sister seemed to also have seen what she had seen a very long time ago.
"What else have you seen that you can tell me?"
"That you do not mourn alone," Juniel approached her and cupped her hand on her sister's belly. "If you do not wish to, at least."
"If I wish to?"
"It is a future that is changing."
Knowing and seeing how powerful her sister's visions were, Jei held her breath and nodded.
If she were to believe anything other than her visions, it was her sister.
"Okay."
Juniel pulled her sister to a nearby boat and rowed her to the Giant Tree. Welcomed by twinkling lights as the sky darkened. The tree swayed as if greeting them both. She placed a flower crown on her sister's head, one she procured from another person standing nearby. Then, she led them up winding stairs until the view became not only the bark of the tree but of dripping vines and flora. The steps were draped in petals.
"What is this?"
"I told you, he is my brother-in-law."
Zhen heard this and laughed heartily. Wing was still sulking but managed a courtesy smile when he saw Jei.
"If you will have me, at least," Zhen said once they reached him.
"Why wouldn't I?"
"I could name a few things not so good about Zhen," Cini joked.
"But none of that compares to why you should definitely marry him!" Pola said.
Jei took his hand, no longer reluctant to follow her feelings.
She will believe in Juniel's visions no matter what.
The Elders of Solum and Unda joined their hands together, blessing their union fervently.
"Though we must say goodbye to two such individuals, tonight we will celebrate the joining of two kinds with more ruth than the last. And to you both, we bestow the blessing of earth and water that sustains us. May you be forever blessed in your remaining time."
Wing scoffed at the prayer, unimpressed by the finality of it.
"Today, I relinquish my title as Priestess and leave you with one vision more." Jei met her sister's eyes and spoke again. "I saw a woman give birth to a special boy, unlike any Unda we've seen before. However, it is not the boy who we will rely on. It is the mother who's vision will awaken. Wait three days, and you shall see what I was told."
"That's a pretty big vision," Zhen whispered. "You've never had those before."
"No, but someone sees better than I just as I saw better than the last."
The Lighting Tree calls for one special person every 7 years to journey through the Abyss with four trusted companions. Additionally, Zhen must give up his human desires and connections to fulfill the calling. However, what happens when his connections can't give him up?
