I woke up feeling like my wings were going to fall off. The ground was not comfortable and the layer of leaves I used to cushion myself did nothing. Sleeping on your stomach in the woods is not a good idea because I was now in even more pain than when I fell asleep. I was also incredibly famished. I swear I could eat a goat or maybe a cow. I got up and groggily started my search for food and water. Because every great survival show says that is the first thing to do in order to survive. But I will not drink my piss, that goes too far.
After a few minutes of walking around I found some berries, they tasted incredibly bitter and were bright pink. I was desperate for food and only realized after that they must be a medicinal berry as my entire body although movable felt completely numb. It must have been an insane pain reliever. I should probably keep some of these. So I grabbed as many as I could and stuffed them into my robe pocket. Afterward, I continued looking for food despite my body not wanting to entirely respond. Eventually, I found a small stream and as soon as I saw it I drank as much water as possible. Ugh, it tasted like shit. The water was good but the flavor the water had was so bad I wanted to puke. Actually, I would have puked if the berries I ate hadn’t shut off my gag reflex.
I decided to follow the stream because common sense would have me end up at a town if I did. Once I reached a town what would I do anyways? Would they even allow me into their town? What if it is a human town? They would probably chase me out. My horns literally stuck out like a sore thumb even though they were small, they still were on the front of my head. Maybe I should grind them down? Other than my horns and wings I looked human so I could pass as one. I just had to hide my wings under my robe but how do I grind my horns down?
I decided to just start grinding immediately with a smooth stone from the stream. All I could hear as I walked was the horrible grinding of the rock on my horn. It would have probably hurt a lot had the berries I had eaten not been pain relievers. Thank you, random stroke of luck.
After a couple of hours, I needed a break and some food. I was hungry and tired. The berries had worn off and I only had my right horn ground down to where you couldn’t even tell I had one. Then I saw the first animal that wasn’t a bird in this whole forest, it kind of looked like a deer but it had smoke coming out of its mouth and it stood twelve feet tall. If I wasn’t starving and desperately wanting to eat it I would be terrified. But I had nothing to kill it with. I had a stone and some berries, that’s it. Wait, I have magic. I think in a video game I used to play one could make a lance out of ice and launch it at an enemy to impale it.
I tried to form one in my hands with what I knew about magic but nothing happened. I imagined the ice lance perfectly and forced a ton of emotions into it. Why isn’t it working? Damn it all. In my frustration, I chucked the rock I had at the stream where I heard something shatter. I looked over and the ice lance I imagined was sitting now broken in the stream. I guess it needs water to create ice. That makes sense. So I did the same process as before but this time in the stream and before I realized it there were about ten ice lances in front of me. I grabbed a few and started sneaking up on the giant deer. It didn’t seem to notice me, good. I picked up one of them and heaved it at the behemoth. I missed by about a body's length. Fuck.
It turned its head towards me and its eyes locked on mine. The eyes were in the front of its head not the sides. Oh shit, it’s a predator. I started chucking lances at it as fast and as hard as possible. Three out of the nine I threw pierced it. Damn, I have bad aim. I picked up the one I had left and ran towards it. Then I realized why it had smoke coming out of its mouth, it could breathe fire. “Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit.” I kept saying as I charged it then dove out of the way of its gout of flames and struck it in the side with my lance. It shrieked in pain as the lance dug into it and then shattered. With the force I put into my lance, it had fallen over. I had won.
Well time to eat, I made a knife out of ice and started skinning it. I soon realized a warm body makes it hard for a knife made of ice to last long. Thus it was a painfully long process where I constantly had to make more knives. What was worse is I couldn’t cut the bones or sinnew as the knife would break. Eventually, I had a full meal and with a little fire magic, I was able to start a fire to cook with. The meat was not cooked well but tasted good, probably because I was starving. And so ends my second day in a new world.
