Casper “the friendly ghost” Jackson, stood with a group of people; a couple of girls and three other guys, talking and laughing, as they waited for their order, not one of them noticing Oliver as he got in line to order.

Casper was wearing a light blue polo t-shirt and a pair of dark blue jeans and white sneakers. He had light brown wavy hair, slightly short on the sides while the top part was nicely combed over. He looked like a typical jock, with a slightly muscular body, that made Oliver kind of jealous.

Oliver didn’t think he would see him again after so many years, when Casper moved away in eighth grade, but there he was, back like he had never left. And it pissed. Oliver. Off.

You see, Oliver and Casper used to fight all the time back then. Casper, being Jakes friend when they were kids, were, just like Jake, two years older than Oliver, and they hated each other as kids. They did whatever they could to annoy each other, which most of the time ended up in a fight, with Oliver pretty much losing all the time, which just made him even more pissed. The reason they fought didn’t matter. It could be over their favorite cartoon character to music to simply being too close to each other.

Then one day Casper just up and left, moving far away, leaving Oliver with a strange empty feeling. Since their interaction were something that would happen regularly, he suddenly felt a bit lost, not knowing what to do with himself, that he ended up starting fights with other people, just to went his frustrations. But he hadn’t thought of Casper ever since that day.

That was six years ago. What he was doing back in town, Oliver had no clue, but he wasn’t happy about it. He decided to just ignore Casper, order his milkshake and fries and then leave as fast as he could.

As he had ordered his large chocolate milkshake and his large serving of fries, he made his way to the line of people, who were waiting for their orders, holding onto the end of his skateboard, when someone wrapped their arm around Oliver’s neck.

“Yo! Olli! What are you doing here?” Micheal asked loudly right into Olivers good ear, making him flinch a little.

Micheal was one of the few people Oliver would hang out with from time to time, beside Zack. They would skate together, smoke weed at the scrapyard or partying together, which usually meant getting drunk and high.

Oliver glanced over at where Casper stood, hoping he didn’t hear Micheal, but when he looked, their eyes met. Casper looked surprised to see Oliver, his eyes wide and mouth slightly open, like he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Oliver quickly looked away, avoiding eye contact, and pretending he didn’t know who Casper was, as he decided to glare at Micheal, feeling annoyed.

“Dude, you don’t have to yell, I’m right next to you,” he grumbled frustrated and removed Micheals arm.

“Whatever man! Where is Zack?” he asked, as normally they would be hanging out together. Oliver shifted on his feet, putting a slight distance between him and Micheal, feeling a bit uncomfortable.

“Banging his girl,” he replied flatly, slightly avoiding looking at Micheal.

“Lucky guy!” He said, with a grin, before wrapping his arm around Oliver again, “well since he is not here, why don’t you hang out with us?” he asked and gestured to the group Casper was standing with, which meant Casper included. Before Oliver even had a chance to say no, Micheal dragged him over to the others.

“Look who is here!” He said loudly, announcing Oliver as if he was some sort of a big shot. The others greeted him, though he didn’t really know any of them, all he knew was that he had seen Micheal hang out with them before, mostly at parties. Oliver glanced at Casper who was looking right back at him.

“Right, Olli, this is Casper, Casper this is Oliver” Micheal introduced them, as if they didn’t know each other already. The thing is, Micheal didn’t know they already knew each other, since they met, after Casper had moved away.

“Hey Oliver,” Casper greeted, giving him an awkward smile. Oliver didn’t return it, he couldn’t, not even a forced one. He still resented Casper for back then, no matter how many years had gone by. Oliver was one of those type of people who kept holding grudges, even though everyone else would have already moved on.

“Casper,” Oliver said tight lipped and forced, clenching his jaw. He didn’t even want to say hello. Micheal didn’t seem to notice the tension between them, but the others seemed to notice.

“Hey, you should hang out with us, we are going to the cabins after this, smoke some joints and drink some beers” Micheal grinned, but Oliver didn’t want to spend time with Casper so he declined, which made Micheal frown.

“Come on dude, it’s going to be fun,” Micheal pressured and Oliver frowned.

“Dude, I said not today, maybe some other time,” he pushed Micheals arm away and took a step away from them, clearly indicating he didn’t want to, by putting distance between them. As he did the others order got called up, and most of them went to pick up their food. Micheal sighed, saying sure thing, before he shrugged and left to grab his own food.

Oliver watched them as they went to a table, relieved that they left him standing alone waiting for his order, but Oliver caught Casper glancing his way. He ignored him and turned his back towards them, not even drunk did he want to spend time with Casper.

Oliver decided to find somewhere else to eat; he didn’t want to be near the others, knowing Casper was there, since he didn’t want his mood to get worse. But he wasn’t sure where else to go, so he ended up claiming a bench further away, near the small Ferris wheel, where he drank his milkshake and balancing his box of fries on his skateboard, which was resting on his lap, as a made-up table, while he sometimes dipped the fries in the milkshake.

He had his phone out, scrolling through Reddit, not really finding anything interesting, yet there was nothing else for him to do, beside listening to music. His headphones though couldn't keep the sounds of screams, from the rides around him, and he didn't want to turn up his music, since it was already loud enough.

He could feel himself sobering up as he finished his milkshake and fries, and when he was done, he went to throw it out. As he dropped the trash into the trashcan and dug out a small zip lock bag, from the pockets of his jeans, which contained a couple with white round pills, Oliver noticed Casper and the others walked in his direction.

Casper was the first one to notice Oliver, and stopped on the path when they locked eyes. Both of them had frozen in their spot but Oliver broke the eye contact when he put the pill in his mouth, swallowing it dry before stuffing the rest of the pills away into his pocket, not caring if anyone saw it or not. Then he turned to leave, and he could just faintly hear Micheal called out for him, probably wanting to try and ask him again, but he didn’t stop. He glanced back at them, his eyes meeting Casper once again, who looked at him with a frown. Oliver frowned too and turned his eyes away and started walking. Micheal called out again but Oliver flipped him off, as he kept walking.

The moment he hit the road, he got on his skateboard and rode home as fast as his skateboard could handle, the drugs slowly starts to effect him.

At home the tv was on in the living room, where his dad was watching a nature documentary series, looking like he wasn’t even paying attention to it, as he was sitting with his laptop and several papers on the coffee table. Not feeling like he wanted company; Oliver went up the stairs to his room.

He closed the door behind him, the room faintly lit by the streetlamps outside, he took his shoes off, turned on the ceiling lamp and went to his desk, where he took the bottle of rum, he had left on it, and decided to finish it since he was in a foul mood anyway.

It didn’t take long before he had inhaled the little that was left and placed the empty bottle back at the desk. Oliver sighed and went over to the window, where he took out his pack of smokes and opened the window, then lit a cigarette and leaned against the window ledge, his arm resting on it as he faced the road. He watched the smoke getting swept away by the wind, as the clouds drifted by slowly. It was quiet outside and the stars were faintly shining between the clouds.

By the time he was done, the booze had kicked in, and mixed with the drugs, he felt like he was floating on a cloud, time non-existing. He closed the window and pulled the curtains, before he picked up his controller on the way to his bed, where he turned on his PlayStation 5. He sat down, crossed legged on his bed as a game booted up, leaning up against the wall.

Oliver wasn't much for shooting games, but he loved those action-adventure type of games, that still demanded he could aim at the enemies, but it wasn't the main focus on the game. Oliver reached over to his bedside table, opening the drawer, and pulled out a pair of black square glasses.

The only time he would ever wear them was at home, while playing video games, because it was hard for him to read stuff without it.

The reason why he didn't wore his glasses was because as a kid, he was bullyed by his classmates and with his temper, he would start a fight with who ever said anything to him, often ending up with getting a bloody nose and a cracked glass in his glasses. After a few months of the bullying, he stopped using his glasses and both of hsi parents couldn't get him to wear it, no matter what they said.

But because his vision were pretty bad, he still had glasses, though they probably needed to be upgraded as it didn't completely help, like how they were supposed to, since he got them several years ago and hadn't gotten his eye sight checked since then.

By the time he got tired, the clock was already three in the morning, and he knew he had to go to bed, if he wanted to be just a little bit functional the next day, not that he had anything special he was going to do, since he didn't work, but he turned off the PlayStation, changed into a pair of loose running shorts and loose t-shirt before he went to bed.

Say hello to Casper, Olivers enemy from the past! Their time together as kids weren't joyful and Oliver still hasn't let go of it!

This chapter is longer then I planned it to be when I originally wrote it, so I had to cut it up and there is still a part 3, so I hope you are excited for it!

Oliver has long given up achieving anything in his life. With ADHD, bad vision and being deaf on his left ear, he never thought of himself as anything special, and it didn't help that his older brother was the golden child, who aced all his tests and never did anything wrong.

When Oliver saw Casper, someone he hadn't seen for six years but someone he hadn't forgotten, the memories of him and Casper fighting, the constant mockery and bullying, left him with a grudge he couldn't let go off, so seeing him again after so long, those feelings arose once again.

What he didn't know was that meeting Casper again, would change his life around, and his struggle with drugs and alcohol would be the foundation for their friendship, and maybe something more.
