Before she had even a chance to think about opening the lid of her tomb, the decision was made for her. Another pair of pale hands slipped beneath the lid's edge and lifted it with little effort off its base. Looking up, crimson met crimson as Rain's gaze locked with that of her Master.
His stare peered at her in the dark, pulling her attention into him. Red and adorned around their edge with flakes of silver, his gaze seemed more vigilant than any time Rain could previously remember. Locks of ivory framed his face. His white marble skin, glowing like the moon against the dark backdrop of the inner stone mausoleum where they both kept themselves hidden from the daylight watch of mortals.
"Master? What's happening?"
With an expression set in stone, the cover to Rain's coffin was cast aside.
"We must leave." He whispered, reaching a cold hand out to help Rain to her feet. With strong arms that moved as a blur in Rain's vision, he lifted her thin frame to his side. That was when she felt it. The link between their souls, like a string tied between their hearts, came to life with a vibration of alarm. There was a danger approaching and from his darkening look on his face, Rain knew something more than the German soldiers that were swarming Poland was the cause of his unease. Quietly, she leaned her cheek into his chest as his arms wrapped around her.
