It took Ty five days to get to the planned meeting place with his team. Tai was the first to talk about the results of the meeting with Saeed. His story upset Tan and May. They argued a bit about what to do. After Tan spoke about the successful replacement of the old reactor with a new one. Only now Tai was unhappy with the layout of the fuel cells. But Tang was confident in the safety of the fuel and decided to change the subject.
“We've contacted the thirty-seventh rescue team. Last year they were sent to look for obstacles on the route of cargo ships. They thought it was some kind of container abandoned by smugglers, but they found the Gion express, flight number 3941, missing at the end of 157. The insurance was closed after 10 years. It was not possible to find out anything about the disaster, the cabin was completely destroyed, the logbook was destroyed. Ten hibernation capsules were found on board. In five of them, people were in a deep freeze. Three more corpses were in different compartments of the ship. Specialists managed to bring five people out of the state of freezing, but one of them died without regaining consciousness. A family from Gion, three people, they were shocked by what happened, but then they became the faces of an advertising company for capsule manufacturers. You've seen them many times famous advertisement.”
“Yes I saw.” Tai nodded.
“The deceased was the Nodian Mo Gong. He had burn marks. He apparently managed to get to the capsule, but it was not destined to survive. He attracted the attention of the imperial prosecutor's office. But the fourth surviving girl Seo Yuki had problems, she had amnesia. For six months she lived in a hospital on Gion, until she partially regained her memory. She said she was hired on an express at one of the stations, but she doesn't remember which one. Judging by the documents, she was an Isodian who lived at the station Quiet harbor, but those who saw her say that she does not look like an Isodian, she is most likely a Nodian.”
“Quiet harbor, familiar name.” Tai thought.
“Amix fertilizer is produced at the station.” May stated. “ We were there once, we were picking up some official from the insurance commission. Sauter was loaded with fertilizer at this station.”
“Quite possible.” Tai agreed. “Did anyone think to look at the insurance register?”
“Yes”. Tan replied. “So Yuki was born in 132. The entry was made in 140 during the revision. However, there is no information about her parents. This record is fake, she's not who she claims to be. To check this, we had to contact our leader, only she has access to the archives.”
“What did you want.” May was outraged. “She found us herself. I had to tell my mother everything. Asked to keep her updated.”
“Our task is to find So Yuki, and find out everything that happened on Sauter.” Tai concluded.
Four days later, they were in place in the Ram 3 system, where only two gas giants revolved around the white dwarf. Behind the giants was the orbit of a large asteroid, around which the “Quite possible” station orbited. She had a typical disk design with a dome in the center. Once it was a small mining station, over time, the mineral reserves on the asteroid ran out and the station was converted into a logistics hub. Due to the introduction of transportation licensing, freight traffic has decreased. After the start of the trade wars, the station became a haven for refugees from the frontier systems. One of the refugees offered to produce Amiks fertilizer in order to give work and feed the inhabitants of the station. The benefit of organic raw material waste of life activity was in abundance.
The rescue tug docked at the upper piers, Tan and Mei remained on the ship. Tai visited the station administration and found out where Seo Yuki lives. Leaving the elevator, Tai saw a bustling city with a projected sky. Under the dome of the station were houses similar to those built on planets. The city was zoned into residential and park areas. Parks with neatly trimmed lawns and planted with trees with lush foliage. Several fountains were located along the main street. Having wandered around the city a little, Tai went to the passage to block D, indicated in the address of residence. Inside the block, narrow corridors and low ceilings, pipe communications, all this reminded that this was a space station. Passing through a narrow corridor, constantly colliding with passers-by who did not pay any attention to him, Tai ended up in the residential part of block D, which looked more like a storage container. Narrow windows carved into containers, ropes stretched between them with washed clothes, it all looked like some kind of slum. At the entrance to the stairs was a booth with the words "welcome". Tai went to the booth and looked in the window.
“Who are we saving?” Came the voice of an old woman.
“I am looking for one person.” Tai turned to the voice.
An elderly woman stood in front of him, she introduced herself as a concierge, she said that she saw the rescuers for the third time and once also found herself in a difficult situation. The woman turned out to be very sociable, and Tai had to interrupt her: “I'm looking for Seo Yuki, do you know her? The administration gave me her address.”
“Frostbite girl! Of course I know her.” Shaking her head, the concierge opened the booth, took out a chair and sat down by the stairs. “She's a problem, she's so cute. A lot of good guys wanted to get to know her. So she knocked everyone down the stairs head first, broke one guy's arms. There is one suitor, a Nodian, she does not touch him. They say he's an investigator. The guy with the flowers comes, and then she throws them away. Proud! Save us from her, take her away, she doesn't belong here.”
“Where will I take her.” Tai was surprised “She was born here.”
“What!” The concierge got angry. “I was born at this station, but it is not ours, although it is registered here! Oh, there she is dragging herself! Take care of your head and hands. Good luck i'm off.”
The concierge went into the booth and closed the door. Tai looked in the direction the concierge had just looked. A girl walked out of the corridor with the inscription work area. Tai immediately knew it was Seo Yuki as she looked somewhat like the woman on the pendant they found on Sauter. Tai walked towards her. She really was a beautiful Nodian. Black eyebrows, large brown eyes, a white face and slightly weathered, delicate thin lips. Tai stared immodestly at Yuki, she noticed it. Yuki knew from the jacket and the chevrons on the sleeve that this man was from the emergency services. She wanted to pass by, but Ty stood in her way.
“Seo Yuki, good afternoon! ERS Inspector Captain Lou Tai.” He introduced himself.
Tai offered to sit on the bench, which was not far from the living containers.
“Do you want to know if I remember anything else?”
“No” Interrupted Tai. “ I am familiar with the reports of the rescuers and your testimony in this case.”
“If so, then I have nothing more to say.” She replied with annoyance and started to leave.
“However, new circumstances have opened up that require clarification on your part Yuki.”
“Okay, I'll listen to you.” She sat down on a bench.
“You have a diploma of a ship's doctor of the third rank, why don't you work in your specialty?” Tai asked.
Yuki tensed, there was a traitorous pause. Tai noticed this confusion.
“It's hard to find a job here.” Gathering her thoughts, she explained.
Tai decided to put pressure on her to completely deprive her of the opportunity to refer to amnesia, since she had already actually admitted that she tried to get a job as a doctor: “You are a doctor and you should know what the D6 marker is.”
Yuki was silent. Tai said that his team found the destroyed Sauter and a container with samples.
“What did I do?” Yuki asked.
Tai took out a transparent bag from his breast pocket, which contained a medallion. Yuki shuddered when she saw the medallion. She covered her face with her hands. Her white skin got even paler.
“I hope this nightmare is over.”
“It's all up to you Yuki. If you will be extremely frank and tell me everything that really happened, everything will end happily.” Tai advised.
“Okay." Yuki replied raising her head, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Tai took out an analyzer from another pocket. Yuki obediently held out her hand. Tai touched her velvety skin and got a little flustered. He gently pressed the analyzer on the vein, the capsule filled with blood. Inscriptions in the language of the pilgrims appeared on the screen. Yuuki noticed this and was surprised, but kept silent.
“No signs of infection were found.” Tai said after reading the result of the analysis.
Yuki calmed down a bit.
“What course was Souter following? “ Tai asked the first question.
“I don't know where the starting point is, but I do know that he went to Ilm and then here to the Quiet harbor, then he was supposed to go to the Oron system.”
“Who are you really and what were your duties on the ship?”
“I'm really Seo Yuki. My parents are refugees from Tcii. I have a medical degree. I was looking for a job at the docks on passing ships, Captain Prakz offered me a position as a doctor. One thousand gold litas for the flight, it's a lot of money and I agreed.”
“What happened on the ship.”
“It happened before me. Prakz didn't warn me about what happened to them. There was a surprise waiting for me on the ship. I realized that I was in trouble. I tried to refuse the captain's offer, but it was too late to refuse, since we were in flight. Prakz promised to pay twice as much if I deal with the parasite.”
“Prakz was infected?”
“No. Even though Prakz was a smuggler, he took every precaution to keep the others safe. The ship was loaded remotely, and a transport capsule delivered us on board.”
“Describe what happened in chronological order, what happened before you arrived and after”
Yuki began her story, “As one of the workers on the ship told me. They had a corporate courier on board, he was carrying a container with him. One of the crew members decided to look at the contents of the container. The courier caught him trying to open the container, a fight ensued, during which the courier was killed. Several members of the crew ran to the noise. They decided to open the container, it contained the capsules. Someone suggested that money was sealed in the capsules, and they decided to break one capsule. The capsule contained some sort of organic matter with a large bubble that immediately burst, releasing the spores. Someone from the crew managed to close the living compartment and call the on-board doctor. Yes, they had a doctor. After the air in the living compartment was cleared, the doctor decided to examine the two people locked in the compartment. Prakz watched all this, and when the doctor panicked after analyzing it, the captain blocked the living compartment. Two days later, two crew members died, then the doctor died. On the third day, Prakz decided to clear the living quarters. They depressurized the ship and wanted to throw the corpses into space. They only managed to pull out the body of the doctor and the container. Some formless creature jumped out of the courier's corpse and damaged the space suit of one of the captain's assistants. Prakz had to reseal the living quarters. A day later, the captain's assistant developed necrosis where I scratched this creature. And his cabin mate started having coughing fits. Then Prakz locked the patients in quarantine and decided to find another doctor.”
