She didn't know how much time had passed, when she woke up in a familiar place.
"Why am I here again?!"
"Now now, there's no need to panic I told you that we'd meet again soon", she heard someone say behind her.
"You!", exclaimed Marianne upon recognizing the voice.
"Yep, it's me. I know it's probably very hard for you to not see me for so long, but I assure it'll get better with time. By the way, next time we meet I'd like to be greeted with a normal 'Hi' or something like that instead of screaming, but if that's too difficult for you I'll also accept your screams. After all they show just how excited you are to see me again", meant the woman in an amused tone with a smile as sweet as honey.
This last sentence earned her a glare full of disgust and hatred from Marianne, but upon looking at her other self more closely her face turned pale. The person standing in front of her wasn't herself, it was a stranger with her voice. But even after seeing this Marianne couldn't help but see herself in the woman in front of her.
"Who are you?", she asked afraid, but also curious.
"Didn't I already tell you before? I am you and you are me", answered the woman.
"I know that much, you already mentioned it before, but that's not helping at all. Just look at you, you don't even look like me, the only thing that you share with the real me is your voice."
"I wouldn't say that", meant the strange woman, "In fact I'd say I'm more of the real Marianne Heran than you are."
~Heran?~
Hearing that name she felt like she had forgotten something important, but each time she tried to remember what it was she got a terrible headache. Just as she wanted to ask the woman in front of her what she meant the whole world started twisting and turning. Not even seconds later she found herself in a new place.
The walls were made out of stone bricks and an irritating, yet familiar smell was in the air. On the side of the room there was something that resembled an old lab and from the looks of it the strange smell was caused by one of the bottles on the desk that was next to it.
Slowly she approached the desk to see what all the papers on it were about.
The first thing she noticed was that everything was written the same way as hundreds of years ago.
~Wait what?~
There was no way she could've known how people wrote hundreds of years ago, but even then this whole situation was already extremly odd so one more strange thing wouldn't make the difference anymore. And instead of thinking some more about it she concentrated on what was in front of her.
The text was speaking about something she was very familiar with, which only caused her distrust to grow. Everything that was listed on there were the abilities of the five 'main families' as well as their weaknesses. Before this she didn't think that anyone could ever make this many reports of them, with such an incredible accuracy, without being caught and killed on the spot, but at the same time she noticed that something was wrong.
"This... - There's no way."
But no matter how many pages she looked at the date of the year didn't change, 1697.
"What are you lookin at?", asked the strange woman.
Hearing how someone was sneaking up to her she quickly closed the book and covered the notes with her body, but that wasn't enough. The woman had already passed her and was looking at the notes she so desperatly wanted to cover.
"Really? You wanted to hide such worthless notes from me?"
"They're not worthless!"
"Sure they aren't, but what's the point in holding them so close to you? You do know that you can't take them back with you, don't you?", said the woman in a surprisingly sharp tone.
"So? It's better than letting you have them", she said slowly backing away while holding the notebook close to her chest.
"You do know that I already memorized everything that's written in there."
"What?"
"Did you really think I wasn't aware of what was written in those notebooks? Or are you perhaps worried about that Radwill boy? There's no need to worry, I won't touch him, for now", the woman meant, but the cold sparkle in her eyes seemed to say otherwise.
"I need to get out of here!"
"What's the rush? The interesting part hasn't even started yet", said the woman with an amused smile on her face.
Marianne knew for a fact that the woman wasn't lying when she said all those things, but at the same time that lifeless smile was starting to creep her out more and more. She didn't know when it all had started to go wrong, but she was aware that she herself was in the center of it all, even though she wasn't aware what role she played in it.
Just as she wanted to ask what was happening with her body she heard voices behind herself and as she turned around she saw a younger version of the woman walking together with a tall man. From the tone of their voices it seemed like they were talking about something important, but she couldn't understand what it was. Just as the man was about to turn around the sky came falling down and all that she could remember were his violet snake like eyes.
A few moments later her surroundings had changed. Where there once was a wall out of stone bricks there now was a big window and on the other side of it there was a person chained to the ground.
This time she wanted to ask where they were before anybody said something but she was cut off by another voice. As she turned around to see who it was she saw the younger version of the woman in front of her, but something was strange. The woman as well as the surroundings seemed to be smaller than before and when she looked at the glass wall she saw her reflection in it.
The same snake like eyes as before were staring at her and they seemed to be able to look into the deepest parts of her soul. The face in the reflection was one that could make any womans heart skip a beat and his short wavy green hair looked like it was made out of high quality emeralds.
She didn't know whom exactly this body belonged to, but she could tell from his appearance that he was most likely a noble or another high ranking person.
After years of being isolated from everyone Silas finally escapes. But now that he's free he doesn't know what to do and his pursuers are starting to close in. Will he be able to fully escape or will he lose everything while trying, even his own life?
"Who are you?", asks the confused and scared voice.
The dark being in front of him smiles at him with that horrendous smile, that he despises more than anything else.
"Can't you see it? I am you."
