A wave of German voices rose in Rain's ears. The voices of armed Nazi soldiers. Accompanied by the fall of heavy foot steps, dozens of voices, rough and commanding, closed in. The light burned her Master's eyes, creating indistinguishable blurs of obscured shadows and white.
All certainty in his gaze disappeared.
Shocked, Rain made no sound. She could only whimper as fear raked down her back. Her Master brought a hand to the back of her head so that her face pressed against his chest. Yet suddenly, the unfamiliar touch of unknown hands reached through the cloak that concealed Rain in her Master's arms. Grabbing hold of her, she was ripped from his protective hold. Finding her voice, a scream instantly rose from the depths of her being as she tried to reach back to where she thought her creator to be. She couldn't see anything in the sightless light.
"Master!" Rain cried out, her hands grasping at empty air. The tight hold of unfamiliar hands pulled her further back and away from where she had been. "Help me, Master!"
