During the invasion, in a split second, a cascade of memories flowed through Glac's mind. The reason for his arrival in this world, his connection with Varena and Novah, and the guilt for not foreseeing this outcome. Glac questioned how a being of his evolved stature could keep making mistakes. Were these errors inevitable and purposeful within the system? Or were they compensatory agents meant to balance the equation? The fact remained that a multidimensional being could not avoid what had happened.
The inhabitants of Moluzpradoxi were naturally long-lived, a trait significantly enhanced by new technologies. During the era of peace and evolution (the Glac era), a resonance phenomenon occurred among the minds and spirits of the inhabitants, fostering genuine and lifelong relationships based on pure affinity.
On the day of the invasion, in Novah's house, in a beautiful circular, minimalist, and well-lit room:
— Varena, are you heading to his lab again? Sometimes, I worry because only you have that access. I'm not sure if I trust Glac.
— I feel that I can trust him, Novah. Moreover, it's undeniable how much light he brought into the world. The least we can do is accept his eccentricities.
— Sometimes too much light can blind.
— Don't distort the meaning of the words; you understood what I meant. If you don't trust him, at least accept that, thanks to him, we found each other.
— I know.
— Are you going to Eslar today?
— No, I'm going with you today!
— What an honor, the skilled Novah as my escort.
Novah was more than skilled; his affinity with combat techniques was fluid, intuitive, and seemingly devoid of the need for experience. Despite that, he had practiced them for decades, making him one of the pillars of Eslar. However, these credentials and roles didn't seem very relevant to Novah. In fact, nothing seemed very relevant to Novah except Varena.
External observers might conclude that Novah was always in automatic mode; he showed no interest in social interactions or collective interests, merely continuing to train in what appeared to be a mechanical manner. His disproportionate physical abilities seemed to be a compensatory mechanism, a tool for reflection, forgetting, or escape.
The connection between Novah and Varena was immediate and reciprocal, transcending their current lives. Novah finally found an alternative to his isolating actions and self-neglectful lifestyle. Half a century after meeting, they complemented and changed each other.
Varena, at Glac's suggestion, was responsible for monthly checks and reporting to DEZ regarding the infrastructure needs of Glac's Laboratory. The location was within an acceptable walking distance from Novah and Varena's home, but it required crossing the city center and entering a wooded area, where the upper part of the laboratory was isolated among the trees.
At the laboratory entrance, they were surprised by Glac, who was farther away than usual and had a worried expression, but he smiled upon seeing the couple.
— Varena, good to see you. I see you brought company today. My solitude away from the city is comfortable, but sometimes we need to step out of our private worlds and interact with those we have affinities with in the reality we inhabit.
— We also like you, contrary to what people say. All these years coming here have only revealed the beautiful essence you possess.
Everyone exchanged smiles. Novah, thinking about the logistical purpose of the visit, spoke:
— Do you need anything this month?
— I need a miracle, if such a thing exists.
The couple was unsure if Glac's words were serious or carried a hint of humor due to some failed experiment.
— Forgive me; I just needed to see you for now. I have no reports to deliver. Thank you for coming.
Novah touched Glac's shoulders and said:
— They do exist (miracles). I have mine; perhaps you'll find yours.
Glac and Novah exchanged glances through their black eyes, and a nostalgic, slightly sorrowful atmosphere took over. Soon, everything settled into peace, illuminated by Varena's radiant smile.
— Goodbye and thank you for the visit.
Glac entered his laboratory for his final meeting with the DEZ council.
