There were only about ten of these children living at a time, and the groups of children were always born generations apart. It was said that these children had raw magic running through their bodies. This gave then their special powers.

Sadly, this also made them more open to attacks. Raw magic was valuable, and the chance to harness this magic was one many bandits and looters wished to have. They burned down villages and killed thousands of people just to get ahold of these kids. That was how valuable raw magic was.

People all over the kingdom knew about the fate of these children, but the current king, King Zareld Hemlock never did anything about it. If he could, he would be one of those people capturing the children. But, he was wise enough to know that many people would turn against him if he did so.

King Zareld was a cruel king. He was know for not caring at all at the plight of his subjects. He had inherited the throne after the previous king had passed away in his sleep. He flaunted his wealth to his own gain and did not care about the affects this had on his kingdom. The only way the kingdom was still intact was because of his advisors and commanders. Even though the king could not care less, they at lease still cared about the kingdom.

Even though he was horrible, Zareld still had a lot of support from leaders of other kingdoms, who benefited from the weak kingdom. There was nothing his people could do about the plight they were in.
