This is created for recent trending #whyIsign. Deaf people across US and all over world are making posts, videos, and illustrations about why sign language is very important to us. You can find #whyIsign on facebook, twitter, and instagram.
#whyIsign was started by Stacy Abrams. She wanted to spread knowledge about sign language, how it helped so many deaf people and families, like myself, and to encourage more people to learn and use sign language, especially with deaf children.
Many deaf kids aren't allowed to learn sign language. People are scared that learning sign language will hurt deaf kid's ability to learn speech. Researches and experiences of deaf people have proven that this is not true. In fact, knowing ASL had made it much easier for a lot deaf people to learn to speak and lipread.
If hearing babies are encouraged to learn sign language, then deaf babies should be too!
More information about #whyIsign can be found here on the video- captioning provided for those of you who are signing-impaired ;)
short and quick comics about my life as a deaf trans masculine genderqueer person.
