But insanity got the best of him. At sundown, around 6:48 pm, Fiorello of Birrough's Best finally went out of his home, holding a gallon of what turned out to be gas, and spread it all over the farm, including his neighbors. Leo said, "We though he was just watering the farm. It was when they wind blew and we smelt it. I screamed, 'It's gas! It's f**kin' gas!' And everybody realized it at the same time too. We ran as far as we could. But he heard us. That's when he set fire to it. It spread like crazy. One moment we're on earth, the next it's like hell. He's crazy, man. He's crazy." Leo also quoted the final words Fiorello screamed, "YOU WILL NEVER GET OUT OF THIS. I SWEAR TO WHATEVER GODDAMNED CREATURE THERE IS: I WILL BRING YOU ALL TO HELL EVEN IF IT MEANS I'M TAKING YOU ALL WITH ME!!!"
"I think we were supposed to be scared, but we weren't." Leo lamented, "It was pitiful. We knew him, you know. The kids here grew up with him around giving fruits when they pass by, and Marigold with her beautiful flowers. Now here we are. We don't know what happened. We don't know when he became like this. Maybe it's Hoxwell, I don't know. I suppose, we ought to be angry that he left us almost dirt poor, but we're just sad he became that way and he went away like that." Many Birroughnians have the same heartfelt sentiments, a testament to how they stuck by being true "valued partners" of the Birrough's Best family. However, they say that they will not grieve a "traitorous friend", only the memories they had and what he was before.
Birroughnians also pray that little Liliana will not learn of what happened to her father and their farm, and that Missus Marigold will have safe travels.
