After breakfast, Katherine went to her room to change. Now that Elizabeth thought about it, she had slept in Katherine’s room last night, which meant that Katherine had gone in while she was asleep so that she could get her clothes when she went out in the morning. The thought made her feel ashamed and embarrassed at the same time. Not only had she slept in her bed, but she had taken her room away from her too. Yes, she still couldn't bring herself to completely trust Katherine, but she was still grateful for what she had done for her yesterday and today.
"I'm ready, shall we?" Katherine handed Elizabeth a pair of sunglasses, a mask, and a cap as she sat on the couch. Elizabeth examined the items in Katherine’s hand, "Ah- yes, we can go. But… what are those?"
Katherine swung her head down, dropping her sunglasses onto her nose in one go. Looking at Elizabeth, she talked in a very serious expression, "Disguise.”
"Why do we wear disguises?"
"Not me, you are. I mean... if you want to. Yesterday you didn't seem to want to meet anyone you know. We'll not go to the nearby mall to make sure, but if you want, you can use these."
Yes, she really didn't want to meet anyone, but that had slipped Elizabeth's mind! "You're right, thank you." She took the disguises from Katherine's hand, "That was really thoughtful of you." She smiled, pleased that someone had thought of something for her without her thinking.
"You're welcome, then we're ready to go."
A few minutes later, Elizabeth found herself in a very luxury car. After leaving the house and walking down a few streets, she followed Katherine to a parking lot. Elizabeth was surprised when Katherine unlocked one of the expensive cars inside the parking lot.
"Um... Katherine? Is this your car?"
“Yeap. I don’t normally use the car since I like walking but that mall is far from here.”
“I see…”
Maybe she comes from a wealthy family? Elizabeth thought to herself. Even though she was not good with money, she assumed that a student could not buy a car by working alone. But if that was the case, why was she living in that house? She could have lived in a much more luxurious house?
The watch on her left wrist looked very expensive. The sunglasses she gave her and which she wore herself were also from the most famous brands. She had learnt a lot about these brands from the vulgar conversations woman had among themselves in the places where her mother forced her to go.
Another thing that surprised her was that Katherine could drive a car. None of the women around her knew how to drive. Most of them either had a driver or their husband or brother drove them to the places they want to go. She had wanted to learn how to drive once, but her mother and father refused to let her take lessons. Her mother told her it was not a ladylike behaviour, and her father told her that it was not necessary, that they already had a driver. She let it go after a while since she couldn’t change their mind.
When they arrived at the mall some time later, Elizabeth was grateful for the disguise Katherine had given her as they entered a crowded area. Even if they are not in the mall where her mother always went, it was still making her uneasy.
Elizabeth followed Katherine nervously, barely noticing that they had entered a store. As soon as they entered, the staff approached them.
"Miss Williams! I hope everything is all right since we last met." Katherine was greeted by a woman in a different uniform from the rest of the staff. The woman must have been the manager of the store. Elizabeth was quite surprised that they came and greeted Katherine in particular.
Katherine took off her glasses and shook the woman's hand, "It is, thank you. I hope everything is fine for you too."
"Indeed it is. How can we help you today? Do you have a complaint about your last order? If so, we can take care of it right away."
"No, no, I'm very pleased with the order. We came here today to get some things for my friend. Could you please assist us?"
Katherine pointed at Elizabeth. Elizabeth was glad that the mask and glasses hid her confused face. Pulling herself together, she bowed slightly.
"Gladly. miss, miss Williams, please follow me.”
