The Beast Wants To Live, Simply.

Chapter Five: Part Two.

Chapter Five: Part Two.

Apr 04, 2024

Beth resides in the house's left wing, near Estell's room and the library to their right. Under a conversation with the head butler, her room is foreign from any servants ever entering the room unless express permission from Beth or Cinder. Furthermore, only Clyde and Cinder could move most of Beth's items into the room despite the massive mountains of things Beth had gathered through whatever number of years she had lived. Cinder couldn't complain much since she knew most items in the boxes were for her 'illicit' business. Cinder didn't know much about how medical magic truly works, but she knew the absolute wonders it does. Like many others like her, her body was a key result of it. She knocks on the broad, dark wooden door. She hears the clacking and shuffling of glasses and papers.

"Come in!" Beth said through the door.

Cinder pushed the door open to a staring Beth, holding her papers close to her chest. Beth examined Cinder's face before she smiled and relaxed her hands around the documents. She goes back to reading as Cinder locks the door behind her. Cinder looked around the newly decorated room; with her magic, Beth quickly got everything set up and running in one night. Her walls were decked to the high heavens with shelves on shelves full of jars of herbs, spices, and things Cinder couldn't figure she was either impressive or unnerved by; for example, one jar was nothing but human teeth. For what reason? No one dared to ask. Dried rosemarys, flowers, and bundles of mandraks hang from the ceiling, easy to grab or burn. Where Beth stood, while she had thrown away her paper, was her large, brown cauldron surrounded by glass and wooden cabinets. It was boiling as Beth threw sparkles of yams inside a white, goopy liquid. It changes into a nude hue as she strikes it with a spoon, drawing what seems like a triangle, mumbling three times over: 'A frameless body, A Canvas."

Located to the right of the speculation lies a table where Estell is engrossed in a notebook, with the end of her pencil dancing in the air wildly. Her eyes dizzily move up and down. Soon enough, she slammed down the notebook and stood up.

"Done!" Estell said, collaborating with the cauldron and setting off a small boom, startling Cinder and Estell. They snapped their heads over to Beth, surrounded in green smoke. When the smoke cleared, Beth had a crow plague mask on already.

"That went better than expected," Beth said, her voice muffled by the mask. She pointed to Estell, "You're not done; do it again."

"What!?"

"Your handwriting is still too shaky for the spell to work. Don't roll your eyes at me; do it again," Beth said, Estell mumbled under her breath as she tore and crumbled a paper out of the notebook. Beth then fingered for Cinder to come over. Cinder walked over, unaware of the still green, smoking cauldron. Beth destroyed the fire and grabbed a glass bottle from her cabinet.

"Do I need a mask too?" Cinder asked.

"Nah, I just like wearing this," Beth responded. "Can you hand me the bay leaf in my right cabinet?" Cinder did as she instructed, grabbing a full glass of bay leaf. Cinder opened the jar, letting Beth stick her hand inside; Beth crumbled a handful of bay leaf sprinkled inside the bottle. She then grabs a spoon, pouring the white, gooey liquid into the bay leaf. The color changed from white to a cool, smokey gray as it filled up. She lifted the bottle into the sky, eyeing it carefully as she swished it around. Cinder leaned close over Bet's shoulder.

"What is it?" Cinder asked.

Beth smiled, "It's a potion that causes ED. Want it?"

Cinder pulled back, "I'm good."

"Oh, but I need my test pig."

"Then get a pig, not me," Cinder said. Beth's smile turned sinisterly. She walked closer to Cinder, holding the glass bottle above her head. Cinder walks back, pointing her finger at her. "Hey! I said get a pig, not me."

"I'm not doing anything," Beth sings.

"Please-I swear if you get one drop on me, I'm throwing you into your pot," Cinder said. She grabbed Beth's arm, who still had the bottle in the sky. Beth laughed, pulling her arm from Cinder's grip and holding it close to her chest.

"I'm joking. It's a potion that simulates your body to produce a higher level of testosterone."

"That's pretty remarkable, hell for me, but pretty amazing for others."

"With that note, here is your daily dose refill." Beth grabbed a purple bottle and handed it to Cinder. Cinder opened the lid, her nose slightly crunching up from the smell.

"Is there any way for you, how you say, not to make it taste like ass?"

"You have no idea how many options you have with this one bottle. This," Beth raised the white liquid, "You can either stab this inside you or rub it down on your skin like honey, and that's it."

"I prefer drinking it, personally," Estell added from afar.

"You're not in this," Cinder remarked. Estel giggled before hyperfoucing back at her notebook. "I'm just saying you could use that as a note of my feedback."

"Your body is already my feedback," Beth said. She removed her mask, setting it down on her cabinets. "I'll see if I can change the taste when I find ingredients that do half the miracle than the ones that you find taste awful."

"Thanks."

"I'm done again," Estell said as she slammed her pencil down. She races over to Beth and Cinder, grabbing their arms and dragging them to her open notebook. Beth studied the words on the paper, carefully running her fingers over the pencil lines. While to Cinder, everything looks like she is having a massive stroke right now. The words are more like crudely drawn runic with massive circles around them. Her eyes narrowed at one word because she couldn't tell if it was supposed to spell birds or darts. However, Estell seemed ever so happy, clasping her hands and waiting for Beth to say anything.

Beth wrapped her arm around Estell, bringing her close for a hug. "You did amazing, my star," she said. Estell hugged her back eagerly, then turned her head over to Cinder.

"You did great, though I really have no fucking idea what I'm looking at," she said, kissing Estell on the forehead.

"It's a spell I've been crafting for days," Estell said. "I finally finished it to Beth's standard."

"Somewhat," Beth commented. She rubbed her thumb and pointer finger together. "Ignite." She snapped them together, and a fire ignited from her thumb. She moved the flame towards the paper; the flame engrossed and spread instantly to the surface. Before Cinder could snap in protest at Beth, Estell blew at the red heat. The wind of the flame curled to the top before circling together as it morphed into a bird. A flaming bird soars into the sky, its blazing wings spread far and wide. Cinder stands in awe as the bird proceeds to fly around in a circle before diving down to them. They dunked as it flew by and accelerated back into the sky.

The bird twists and turns around the room, successfully moving around the hanging dried plants like a stunt performer at the sunlight festival, with the blazing glare on it to boot.

Estell bounced as she watched the bird eagerly do another dive. Her face shone with an enormous smile as she whispered, "Yes, yes." Beth couldn't erase the proud smile plaster on her face, as Cinder could tell. Cinder smiled at the bird; however, it faded as the wing tip, driving too close to the wooden cabinets, scorned the surface, leaving a rather sizable burnt line on it. Beth and Estell's smiles fade as the bird sprints past them, nearly burning them in the process. Then it got worse. The bird launched itself into the hanging rosemary and scratched the ever-loving shit out of it. The rosemary busted into flames.

"NO!" Estell screamed. Cinder sees a bucket of water in the corner of the room and instantly grabs it, splashing water to take out the flame, startling the bird into a frenzy. He lunges towards Cinder, which she whacks with the bucket, shooting him towards Beth. Estell tackles her out of harm's way. The bird interstep itself from hitting the wall, flapping its wings to steady itself. It was enraged. It lunges towards the two girls. Cinder rushes over, whacking the bird again in another direction, yet it still steadies itself.

"What the hell is this bird made of, steel?!" Cinder yelled.

"It models off of a bac-king, a species native to the Evergreen district. They are considered a marvel as they managed to fly at the speed rival of a horse. They are fierce and easily hostile to conflict and other predators it deems a threat, and they are really hard to kill!" Estell said.

"Oh, for fuck sake," Cinder said, whacking at the flying threat honed onto her.

"If we manage to get it to settle down, Estell can make it vanish," Beth said.

"Can I not do it now?" Estell asked.

"You feel calm right now?"

"Actually, I'm currently fighting against a mental breakdown right now."

"That's your answer. Cinder, keep it distracted while we try to subdue it."

"I'm already on it," Cinder said, slamming the bird away from its lounge to her face. "It really wants me to die, specifically."

Beth crawls over to her cabinets and shifts through the lower levels. Closing and opening the cabinet door, screeching through it with an increased speed while Estell crawls over to the bed. Right now, it was just Cinder engaged with the increasing rage of a bac-king, nearly whacking it too close to the other two. Luckily, the bac-king was honed onto Cinder, too distracted from the girls' rummaging. Unluckily, as it wanted Cinder dead, its attacks became more threatening, flying up into the air and diving down to Cinder's face. Cinder dodged the attack, twitching to slam it straight into the wall. However, with every blow to the bird, the bucket was slowly scorned and broken into ashes. Cinder had no other options besides this bucket unless she felt like doing hand-to-hand combat with bac-king made of fire. So, she switches her movements to a defensive style, moving and dodging the bird's swooping attacks, only hitting it when it becomes dangerously close to her body. She felt her breath turn hot as she pants, yet a slight smirk appeared on her face.

A long, old, familiar feeling slithers around her body, engrossing it with a sense of a good feeling nearly similar to pleasure. It was a fighting thrill she missed in her day-to-day sword fighting with Clyde; she only stopped for a while, hoping to silence the beast that came alive in fights to wash any trace of her former past. However, by the gods, she did love this feeling, even in the dire situation happening with a bird made of fire. Which nearly burned her cheeks with its beak if she didn't snap out of her daze and move at the last second. The bird hovers in the air, its eyes firmly on her. Cinder took a deep breath before getting into position. If her instincts were right, the bird would go low to shoot into her face as a desperate last move. It was getting tired and looking to stun Cinder to escape. She can smash the bird into the ground if she hits it just right. Their eyes locked onto each other.

The bird dives down, swooping down to Cinder's legs. Cinder raises the bucket up into the air. And to Cinder's absolute astonishment, Estell rushes in with a battle cry and belly-flopped onto the bird with a blanket under her. Cinder stood frozen with her weapon in the air as Estell shut her eyes and prayed to the gods that the bird was gone. After a brief moment, Estell opened one eye, then her second. She moved from the flat blanket, which had a lump in the middle. They hovered over as Estell slowly moved to lift the blanket; under it, there was just a pile of ashes left.

“I did it,” Estell whispered. Beth, standing up from under her cabinets, just started laughing. Estell looks up to Cinder with a stupid smirk. “I did it,” she said louder. Cinder dropped the bucket; she then dropped to her knees before pulling Estell into a hug.
