CHAPTER 8
THE BOY
It was a long day after getting kissed, being locked in a room, finding out that this mistress probably wanted to kill my family and making our way through an airport crowd to get to Venice, so naturally the plane we were on lulled me to sleep.
There was a house, a mansion really, that rested atop clouds. Two young women sat at a table drinking tea. Their faces were blurry but you could tell that they were smiling. It seemed to be the end of the day and both women retreated to their quarters with polite goodnights. One with light brown hair and a small figure went to sleep immediately, the one with dark hair stayed up holding a clear flask with purple liquid in it but drank none. The dark haired women got up and left the mansion. She smiled but it wasn’t pleasant as she splashed a small bit of her flasks’ content onto the clouds. Immediately they started turning a deep evil, purple. The woman continued until all the clouds looked the same. The woman reentered the mansion and poured some of the purple liquid onto a mirror.
“Spread, little Breath of Death.”
The woman whispered as she went around the mansion adding the Breath of Death to everything. The dog, the bell, the walls. She finally made her way to the hosts’ room where the light haired girl slept peacefully.
“Well, well, well Ana. You might not be the same after this and you’ll curse the name Eva.”
Eva, the one with the flask, poured the breath of death into a cup of water and left the room, waiting outside the door with a sword in hand.
Ana’s scream pierced the silence of the mansion.
“EVA!” She cried with fury.
Eva raced back into the room to find Ana. Ana, who had purple skin, long, sharpened fingernails, fangs and wings. Eva immediately hacked the leathery wings off of Ana’s back and the stumps oozed a black substance. Eva didn’t bother cleaning her blade’s tip and proceeded to chop off Ana’s hand and pushed over a bookcase as she fled the room. The bookcase crippled Ana’s leg, leaving her trapped.
“You’ll pay for this Eva. Mark. My. Words!!”
I woke up with a scream and everybody on the plane turned to look at me. A baby started crying. The only people who didn’t look over were the ones listening to music. I sat there embarrassed as people glared at me and returned to their activities.
When we finally landed we rushed to the hotel we were staying at. It wasn’t luxury but it was still nice, but what hotels looked like was the last thing on my mind
When we got to the room we were staying in, Adyson immediately rounded on me.
“What was that?” She questioned.
“I had a dream.” I told Adyson and Evaya everything I had seen and when I was done the first thing Ady said was
“We need weapons.”
I slapped my forehead. How were we supposed to use swords or daggers like characters from fictional fairytales when-
Evaya interrupted my thoughts. “We should find the Dead Alley place before dark. I don’t need this to be any creepier than it already is.”
Me and Adyson both agreed so I searched up the address on my phone and it was only 16 minutes away from where we were.
“I’ll pay for a rental car”
Evaya was clearly coming up with all the sensible ideas today so after we got a truck Evaya was behind the wheel.
It was almost 3:00 when we got as far as the truck could take us. The alley was skinny so Evaya didn’t want to park and take all the space so we traveled by foot. Just before we reached the place I heard a woman’s voice yelling at someone. We looked at eachother, shrugged and continued.
“This is it.” I breathed in when I saw the old apartment. It was in even worse condition than when I had seen it in my dreams. The roof had partially collapsed and part of the wall was warped. The windows were shattered, the paint was peeling and it looked like there had been a fire of some sort on the door. I cautiously approached the place and knocked.
The door opened to reveal a boy about my age.
“What do you want?” He snarled.
I looked back at my companions. Adyson’s eyes were dreamy as she looked at the boy but Evaya looked hesitant. The boy had pale skin and dark brown hair with matching eyes. One of his eyes had a diagonal scar right down until the bottom of his lip.
“My name is June and these are my fri-”
The boy grabbed me and shoved me inside. I stumbled and fell onto the hardwood floor Evaya and Ady close behind.
“So you’re the girl my grandmother sent a vision to?” The boy said with a menacing tone. “You’re the girl my grandmother died for!”
“What?!!”
Somebody died for me?
“Yes. She sent you a vision, don’t you remember? But Nightmare somehow figured out and killed her for it and now I’m supposed to help you!”
