CHAPTER 9
SCREAM
Things were running through my head. This boy was supposed to help me? How did his grandmother die? Who was Nightmare? Was the address on the door from him or was it his grandma? I just stood there for a few minutes not thinking of what to do next.
“Well?” He growled as he waited for me to say something.
“I-I’m so sorry. I had no idea-” I started but the boy interrupted.
“Save it! You don’t actually care so let’s just get this over with. I’m Luc you’re June, Adyson and Evaya. I don’t care about you, you don’t care about me or my life so we just have to get over the fact that we’re stuck together.”
I was confused at first. Why did he hate us so much? Actually, why did he think we hated him? I was going to ask one of my many questions but then something about an old black and white photo on the wall where the wallpaper was peeling, looked familiar.
“What does your Grandma look like?” I asked him.
Luc scowled at me while he seemed to be pondering whether I was serious or just being mean.
“Well she has long gray hair and if you looked into her eyes, you could tell that she was old but she seemed much younger at the same time and-”
“That’s her!” I shouted excitedly. That was the same woman in my dream who said she would help me.
“Wait, so your Grandma-”
Luc interrupted me with a frown. “Her name is Lottie.”
“Lottie, sent me a dream. She told me to run but after I didn’t move she said she would send me guidance. But now she’s gone. I really wish I could have met her in real life.”
Evaya and Ady both looked at me. Right,I hadn’t told them that part.
Luc looked at me with a surprised expression on his face.
“You… wanted to meet her?”
I nodded vigorously.
“Of course! She seemed amazing.”
Luc just stood there with his eyes wide and his mouth open. Luc looked at me in shock. She seemed nice so why wouldn’t I want to meet her? Suddenly the awkward silence was interrupted by a muffled scream.
“That could be Nightmare! Everyone to the basement!” Luc yelled.
The scream sounded again and my body stopped cold in its tracks without my permission. Luc, Ady and Evaya didn’t notice that I wasn’t moving so they kept going. My heart and my head were telling me two different things. My head told me to run but my heart said I should help those in need. My head won round one and I continued down the stairs to where I thought everyone had gone but I was too late! The door was a heavy metal safe like something ready for an army and it was locked! I banged my fists on it in desperation but it must have been sound proof. I slumped to the ground in defeat and exhaustion. My fists hurt, I was alone and something might be out there to kill me.
