CHAPTER 11
NIGHTMARES
We returned to the hotel while Sarah stayed with Luc and I was really tired. When we got to my room, I flopped on my bed and fell asleep.
I woke up in a dark and cold room chained to the floor. I sat up straight and saw a glimpse of something with a crippled leg. I saw it getting closer and closer. I saw more of the creature every second. I was getting scared. Could it be Eva? Was she here to kill me? Did she already kill me sister? I was crying in fear. What if she had killed my sister? I would lose every family member forever. Suddenly everything was dark and I felt a great pain in my arm. I looked down and saw that my shoulder had a cut so deep you could see the bone. I felt woozy and then, all went black.
I woke up in the hospital, my shoulder throbbing in pain and Evaya was holding my hand sobbing. Sarah was pacing back and forth. Luc was sitting next to Ady comforting her awkwardly as she cried.
“What happened?” I said, still a little tired.
“You-you fell asleep and when I came to get you for dinner, you were whimpering and you had a-a cut in your shoulder. All the way to the bone…”
Evaya stuttered, looking sick. I was shocked.
“It felt like a dream.”
Ady looked down and whispered “I think it was.”
Just then, the doctor came in and said that I would be able to go tomorrow, that I healed abnormally quickly but that I would be fine.
“What happened again Hon?”
The doctor, who’s name was Emilia, asked me. I looked desperately at my friends, hoping they would cover for me.
“I don’t remember?”
“Well, she was sleeping when this all happened.” Ady started, “And she’s a really heavy sleeper so when I dropped the glass of water I brought her, she didn’t wake up. I wanted her to continue to rest because we’d had a long day and another one ahead of us so I went to grab a broom, she must have fallen off the bed and her shoulder fell on one of the pointier, larger pieces of glass and, well, you know the rest.”
I glanced at Ady gratefully and nodded at Emilia.
“I guess that’s what happened. I just remember feeling pain.”
Emilia raised her eyebrows at me but let it pass and put me on a light painkiller that put me to sleep again.
I was at an abandoned theme park. There was only a street light from the carless parking lot. A dirty black grand cherokee pulled up and rolled down the window. A man sat in the driver’s seat and he was on the phone. I didn’t hear a word he said but the voice he was talking to sounded familiar.
