AYAMI
“Where was mom till now? what made her change?” I asked Reo as we stopped at the red light.
“She went to grandparent's”
“What?” I asked confused “fathers’ side?”
“No”
My eyes widened; my hands covered my gasp as realisation sunk in. Reo looked at me like he was waiting for my reaction.
“Yeah, I know” he said focusing back on the road as the lights turned green
Our mother’s side hasn't apparently been in good terms with her after she married dad against their wish. They used pretty nasty tricks in efforts to separate them but once my brother was born, they gave up.
She never said anything about her family to us. Although my brother knows more about them than me, so I only know that my moms’ side is pretty rich and influential and dad was the son of their rival family so, they tried to stop my parents from marrying each other by locking mom up and by hurting dad. Thankfully dads’ side was cool with him marrying mom and got involved before things got worse.
“Her younger sister called last month and told her to meet up with her and dad” He paused before adding “...at their ancestral house”
“She has a SISTER!?” I asked dumbfounded
“Yes. They told me random details about it after coming home yesterday, you were asleep” He explained
“That was a pretty risky thing to do considering their efforts in separating them” I replied, partially angry that they didn’t tell us before going, and majorly confused as of why her sister that we haven’t heard of contacted her out of the blue, when she was at her lowest.
Why did she decide to go there? and what happened in there that solved her issues that led her to such depressed state?
Where they the reason behind her strange behaviour all this time?
Questions started flooding in my head and the sudden halt brought me back to the moment.
“I don’t know much about it either. They said they'll explain to us after you get home” My brother said as I got off the car.

“Hello my name is Kayda.” Her voice carrying power echoed the halls. Kayda was the only one left to introduce herself to the class, but there was no need for introducing her. Everyone knew the daughter of the director of magic council and the chairwoman of Alaric cooperations, one of the largest business conglomerates from our country, Celestia.
It was hard to believe that she doesn't have any power. She just carries so much aura to not have a one.
There were indeed rare cases of people whose power remained dormant throughout their life, but their activation occurred under stress, which was mostly at the cost of their life.
The weaker human souls tend to collapse under the activation.
She had a very royal aura, she probably has magic, a very powerful one. I thought to myself
“Looking forward to spending time with you all” Her voice cut through my thoughts. She walked back to her seat.
She carried that sense of elegance and authority in her like she was a queen. Her eyes were dark brown, and hair brown like woods. She wore a lavender neck crop sweater with black jeggings, casual but luxurious.
Why does she feel so… familiar?
I just don’t know how and where, maybe in kindergarten or middle school? But there is no way we both would have studied together since we are both at an entirely different financial situation.
I got into Ebony through scholarships and recommendation.
The bell rang and everyone stood up to leave the class.
“Ayami, lets grab something on our way back home, I am starving." Emily whined.
Emily was there by my side as my best friend as long as I can remember. At this point she was more of a sister than a friend. Her parents were from the west, so when they moved to Celestia, our family helped them get comfortable here. Without her, college would have been hard.
As we walked into the cafe beside our campus, I saw Kayda and a swarm of people from our college around her trying their best to make connections with one of the most influential persons they could get their hands on, so they can be at an advantage.
People love to take advantage
“Buy a drink for me too, I will find a table for us to sit” I told Emi and walked around to look for empty seats
I found an empty four-seater table in the corner of the cafe. I sat there and looked around for Emi as my eyes inevitably landed on Kayda again
I felt bad for her, she looked visibly uncomfortable.
Her eyes started searching through the room and landed on me.
She started walking towards me, muttering something that made the others stop following her, out of fear I assume, since they all went pale.
Interesting...
