A quiet mumble started to roam through out the classroom.
People whispering.
"What do you think they could mean?"
"Do they even correlate?"
"A spell to completely dispel magic. That’s insane!"
"They all seem so different from each other."
Then from the choir of whispers, one voice rang out.
"It's the perfect kit for a hunter or like for a hitman." Hector said a bit louder than he had hoped.
"Indeed. It's the perfect tool kit. A way to quickly locate a target, a way to easily transport themselves to the target, and a perfect way to cut the target off from their yade. Just for that, I'll give ya some extra points on the next test." William responded.
"I myself, have also come up with this idea. However, it dosen’t match the way the previous bearer of this tile acted. The previous wielder was a pacifist. They turned a blind eye for some crimes but they weren’t willing to hurt anyone." William explained.
"So that rules out that." he said.
"A pacifist with the perfect hunter kit. Well, that doesn’t make sense." Ophilia said quietly.
"Then maybe tell us something about the previous wielder of the title." Hector said.
Hearing this William’s attitude quickly went from humorous to what looked like sadness. William clenched his fist as if he was reliving a bad memory.
Before he spoke, his mind showed him a vestige of the past.
"... Live... William..." ████
"I'd rather not... but as said he was a pacifist, so much that he would refuse to eat anything but fruits and berries. In fact, I don’t even remember seeing him eat any real food." William said with a laugh.
"He taught me some ways of the world and underworld. And he was the closest thing to a father we had at the orphanage." William said.
The room got awkwardly quiet.
Awkward... Ophilia thought.
After what felt like ages someone spoke out. And that someone was Jimmy Fletcher.
"Then maybe it's for protecting someone."
William looked up to where Jimmy sat with a curious eye.
"Elaborate."
"Well, you said that with what you knew of them they were a pacifist. So they could use Jäger to locate the person or object in need of protection, then teleport there to then use Room as a way to prohibit the threat from using magic." Jimmy suggested.
With a knowing smirk, William asks him.
"And who do you suggest he would be protecting?"
"What do you..." Jimmy said, not sure on what he was referring to.
However, when his eyes glanced back at the board where the title "Sage of the Firstborn" stood written he couldn’t help but fixate his eyes on the last part of the title.
Firstborn... Jimmy thought.
"Wait you don’t suggest-"
William cut him up from finishing his sentence, by lifting his finger.
"I think that is enough for now. You have gotten information that you can theories over. See if you can get to anything that I haven’t figured out over the past 17 years." William said with a cocky grin.
"Let’s see it as a little challenge for our class. Whoever thinks of something new that I haven’t, that has a logical ground to it. Or if any of you actually figure out why I, and my predecessor, had this title then I will give you a passing score on all of my classes." William said.
William could see how the class instantly got motivated for this.
"Well now let’s get on with today’s lesson." William said.
"Today we will actually have all of you perform some spells, we will go through the basics so those who have never performed magic before can get used to it. And then we will go on with newer spells from there." he announced.
William then took two steps forward and clapped his hands.
"сутичка"
With the clap of his hands, the small auditorium started to break apart into pieces that started to move around. William flailed his hands around pointing one part to go one direction and some to another direction. As he did he looked like a Maestro leading an orchestra.
He moved the parts where the students sat down and dropped them off before continuing to rearrange the room’s structure.
When he was done the auditorium had completely changed into what looked like a fighting ring. A spacious circle with targets placed out everywhere, made from different parts of the auditorium. It looked almost like the room had expanded as well.
"Now everyone stand up and walk to a target of your choice." William said.
After the class had formed a line with one student paired with one target, William started to hand out books.
"These are now your own copies of the Bbook of life." William said as he handed them out.
"Now the book of life is an ever expanding book containing every piece of information, name, and spell that has existed, is existing and will exist. It's a book that is constantly writing new pages of itself." he explained.
"In old myths, it is said that the Babylonians let sages of old copy the spells written in the book of life and it was from there that we got our spells."
"Now inside those books are 945 pages of glorious knowledge!" he exclaimed.
"During your time here I will have you all read through all these pages and know them by memory." William said with a grin.
There was a combined groan erupting from the students as he said this.
"Now open page 12."
"The first three pages, pages 12-14, include the basics that we all will be learning today and by the end, you all will know all of the basic spells like the back of your hand."
The students opened their books on the receptive pages. They were met with rows of text and old drawings signifying if they needed to use a sort of hand sign or just to show how the spell looked.
William then walked towards where the targets stood and placed himself behind them. William then pulled out a chain attached to a small and very thick book, that he then hung over his neck like a necklace.
"Now, for one to perform a spell you have to focus yade into the words you say. Doing this is as easy as breathing. Just focus on your heartbeat and you start to feel a warm feeling surrounding you. This is yade. When you have done this just breathe and the yade will flow into you." William starts.
"Then when you say the spell just think of this warmness and imagine your words being filled with power. That’s a rough description of how you should do it." William says.
"Just to show that you have understood I want you all to cast the spell Lux." he said.
For the students who have been sages for their entire life this was easy to do, however, for students like Hector who just recently became sages, this was a bit harder to perform.
Hector stood there and tried and tried with no result.
"Damit... come on, you can do it. I won’t fail again." Hector mumbled as he struggled.
He tried and tried again with nothing happening. He felt the warmness around him but he couldn’t get the spell to work.
That's when he felt someone approach.
It was Nadia, who had positioned herself next to him.
"Are you alright?" she asked.
"It won’t work. I feel that warmness Mr. William was talking about but I can’t seem to make my words create the spell." Hector said.
"Maybe Principle Daniel really was wrong about me..." Hector mumbled a bit louder than he had planned.
"Ease up. You're tense as a rock." Nadia said, her voice soft and composed.
"You doubt yourself. I can see that. But if you’re going to be a sage then you have to let that doubt go. It's hard but you’re a sage, a person with unyielding might." she said.
"So breathe in and out. Think of all the power you now can wield and how you can prove to yourself how great you are. Let your ego grow." she said, calmly.
Hector started to think of what she said.
Me powerful? Can I really... No, she is right. With these powers, I can be as powerful as I want. Hector thought, letting the sensation of his ego and growing pride set take over his mind.
Hector then took a deep breath and focused on the power his words can wield.
"Lux." He said.
In front of him, a massive glowing ball constructs itself causing the other students to look in his direction with surprise and amazement. Hector was amazed by the size of his spell compared to the others.
In the sea of amazed looks William stood with a grin.
This teacher role might actually be a worthwhile experience. William thought.
As the class now has gotten the grip on how to use magic they now start the lesson.
"I want you all to go through every spell through pages 12 to 14 at least ten times for each spell. Once you’ve done that you go for 20 times for each spell. And progress upwards until you can perform it without the book's instructions." William said.
"And to spice things up a little..." William said, stretching out his hand.
"인형극" he said and from his hand spread what looked like strings made from yade extend out to the targets. Causing them to take more of a humanoid shape.
As William moves his arms so do the now William shaped targets.
"They will put up some resistance making you more focused on remembering the spells. At least that’s how I was thought." William said.
With a single thought, he could make the 30 different targets move at different speeds depending on the sage they were stationed with.
As the targets moved forward at different speeds the sages started to cast their spells. The first spell needs them to take a short breath and to point with two fingers at the target before casting.
A wave of voices shouting out the word. "fuego" and a barrage of fire bolts rain towards the targets.
William moves in a way to have the targets evade the spells.
"You have to cast the spell nine more times before the targets reach you. If They reach you before you do that you have to start over. If you manage to sway them off, then start with the next spell." William announced with a smile as he made the targets sprint towards the students.
So it went on. The students fired off their spells in desperation, whilst William laughed maniacally as he puppeteered the targets to dodge them. William moved with accuracy and swiftness and some of the students started to learn his pattern of dodging.
Rather quickly the students moved through the book’s different spells at varying speeds. Filling the arena with a variety of different spells.
Bolts of lightning and fire, bubbles of warm light exploding on impact, spells that caused parts of the moving targets to transform into glass and others filled the arena.
One could hear the frustrating groans of the students who where forced to start over and over again.
The class went on for hours and outside the class, there seemed to have gathered a curious group of spectators.
Most of the class had only gotten past the first page but there where a small group that had gotten themselves to the last page after trial and error.
Ophelia, Jimmy, Amelia and a student named Oscar.
These four had almost finished the first round of ten but there was one student who had already past through the first round of ten and was now already on the third round.
That student’s name was the school's new promising top student, Nicholas Carillio.
Seeing this William thought of a way to spice things up a bit.
"Helle und dunkle Messer." William spoke through the target and in its hands formed a knife made from stable yade and another knife made from corrupt yade.
With this William moved as the puppet and caused a surprise counterattack against Nicholas. This caught him off guard. However, Nicholas jumped back and focused all his power on throwing rapid shots of the same spell at the target hoping to force it away with pure power.
William though had planned for this. He, as the target, dropped the knife of corrupt yade and grabbed Nicholas's arm and pushed it upwards to redirect the spells direction. With his other hand, he moved the knife to his throat, causing Nicholas to be forced to start over.
So they kept on until at least everyone had finished the first ten rotations of every spell at least once. As the class neared its end William had the students line up once again and cast each spell without the instructions of the book. Almost all of the students had managed to learn the spells completely, however there were a couple that had failed at one or two spells.
William had simply told them to learn the spells until the next class, and with a clap of his hands, he reformed the auditorium back to its original state before dismissing the students.
