Lucas found himself lying on his stomach in the beach sand. He lifted his head, looking at the tall coconut trees. He stands up, and he only has open luggage on his right. He looks around, and it strikes him that he is stuck on an island.
"Hello?! Anyone?!" he shouted. No one answered. He sat in the sand, facing the sea.
The sun is scorching hot on this island. His head was throbbing, and his breathing became heavy. His mind is blank. Still staring into the empty sea and showing him the glistening of the water. Something urges him to do something.
He stood again and started walking towards the sea. His feet started to touch the water, but he still continued walking. His body slowly dipped the sea deeper, starting to reach his neck through his chin. Finally, his whole body embraced the water, making him suffocate. A few minutes have passed, and his eyes have become heavier.
Suddenly, he felt a hand grab his waist, but he had already lost consciousness.
A person goes up to the sea, catching breath, struggling, and looking at the person she's bringing into her arms.
"Stupid," she uttered under her breath.
"Should I really deal with a person who is stupid enough to kill themselves?" she muttered again while she barely swam to the shore. After reaching the shore, she dragged the man away from the water. Dropping him in the sand.
She kneeled and felt his pulse.
He's still breathing. She sighs in relief.
She dropped her left hand in the sand to support herself and breathe deeply. She looked to her left and saw the person she just saved, or, should she say, was forced to save. She rolled her eyes after witnessing the whole scene earlier.
…
Her head aches as she lifts her head up. Even though her body aches, she forces herself to lay on her back. The bright sun welcomed her and forced her to shut her eyes. When she regained her energy, she got up and looked around her. A bunch of things were scattered around her, such as clothes and some shoes and empty, opened luggage.
She stood up and looked around her to make her realize that she was stuck on this island. Her mind is in a mess; she panicked, but she still managed to get a grip on herself. She breathed deeply and looked at the endless sea. She looked at the sky, hoping that maybe some rescue would arrive.
Thinking of a way to be saved. She grabbed a stick nearby and started to write HELP in the sand.
Not enough.
As she walked in the sand, she felt something in her feet; curiosity around her made her pick it up; it's a phone. Her hopeless heart became hopeful. A smile was painted on her lips. She opened it and found out it was out of signal. It still didn't let her down, and she looked straight at her. She looked up and started to look for the tallest tree she could see. She started running toward the forest. She looked around, scanning the surroundings, making an effort to find the tallest tree she could find. She found a tall coconut tree and started to approach it.
Desperately, she takes off her shoes and removes her cardigan. Realizing that this was her first time climbing a tree, she just let her instincts drive her. She just wraps the cardigan around her wrist and hand. She tucked the phone in her bra. She’s not sure if it's going to be successful or not, but nothing is going to happen if she does nothing. She started to grip the other end of the cardigan around the tree. She breathed deeply and tried to climb.
Exerting all of her energy, she failed twice, but on the third try, she successfully climbed the tree. A smile was painted on her face, and she felt satisfied with her accomplishments.
She's halfway up the tree when she hears a voice. Thinking that she just heard things and ignored them. She almost reached the top of the tree and stopped. She breathed again and made her legs hug the tree tighter. Her heart was thumping loudly. She got the phone and checked for a signal.
Her face dropped as she checked it; it's still not working, and she can't contact anyone. Her heart, which was full of hope, vanished. Her hope of escaping this island is gone. Leaning against the tree, she closed her eyes, feeling hopeless.
She opened her eyes and saw a trail of footsteps. She thought at first that it was hers, but looking further, she saw a person who planned to drown himself. Seeing that it was another person, she rushed down the tree without shoes and ran towards the shore.
She saw nothing when she arrived, but she ran towards the sea and dove to seek the person. She saw a blurred figure of an unconscious person. She quickly swam toward him and grabbed his waist. Struggling, she still managed to pull the person upward. As she goes up, gasping for air, she looks at the person who is still unconscious. She can't believe that someone will drown themselves just because they are obviously stuck on an island with no one. In human nature, they should at least survive.
…
Lucas woke up again, lying on his stomach in the sand. He quickly lifted his head and looked around. It's cloudy compared to earlier. He's still in the same spot as when he woke up earlier. He can't believe it. He thought that he drowned himself, but it turned out not, but he still believes that he did it. He looked again at the calm sea. He stood up and rushed toward the sea.
"Hey!" He looked around when he heard a loud voice. Thought of being hallucinating, it made him go faster on running toward the sea.
"Hey! Are you really stupid or what? Is being drowned once not enough?" he stopped running and looked back. He saw a girl carrying a few sticks of wood and dropped them in the sand. "My point is that you should at least survive, dumbass. Will you get a grip on yourself, or should I slap you and tell you that we're really stuck in here?" He walked back to the shore and observed the girl who's been picking up some stuff from the luggage and put it beside the woods that she gathered.
He looked at her; she has long jet black hair and is wearing a white shirt and jeans with a cardigan wrapped around her waist.
"Are you just going to look in there and do nothing? Grab some wood in that forest; it's going to be dark soon, and we don't have any food or clean water in the meantime to survive this day." He didn't move and continued listening to her. She looked at him and found him not responding to the things she said, which made her angry. Glancing at her reaction, he finally snapped out and blinked his eyes.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it; I mean, yes, yes, I'll get some wood for us."
"Just tell me if you sincerely want to die, 'cause I'll drown you myself." As she stood in front of him, her anger didn't vanish. “What are you waiting for? Go.”
Lucas frantically stood up and started to walk to the forest, looking for something useful. Despite having a ton of trees, most notably the coconut tree, no signs of fruit are there. That makes him suspicious. He decided to get more firewood and discuss the matter with her later.
Not knowing about the potential danger in the forest, as he continued walking, a hard thing hit his head, enough for him to fall unconscious.
