Explanation: The Devil is the younger brother of Mr. Wilde whom he killed years ago, along with the other victims whose mutilated bodies were shown on the train. Mr. Wilde, after killing his first set of victims, disposed of their bodies and never got caught for what he did. He decided to put his psychotic behavior behind him, but the younger brother he killed came back to take revenge, that's why he described the devil as looking "familiar". So for the devil's plan, he first made the train seem empty so he could speak to Mr. Wilde without causing drama, also making it easier for him to see his past victims come back to life, triggering his psychotic side, the gallery was the train of passengers, and the brush was actually a dagger. So instead of "painting", he was actually killing off all the passengers. The devil wanted Mr. Wilde to atone for the exact crimes he committed, but since there was no evidence, thus the only way was to make him commit them again and the train full of people paid the price.
