A weird, purple light had shone through the windows—something unusual to both Agnar and Kiri. It was the glow that came from the blue sun in the center of the Zecleno System. Three chimes came from an alarm clock that was settled in the living room, those chimes sounded like the beats of a music box. One, two, three—everyone was awoken.
Yawning, Kiri woke up to find their vix sitting on the lap of their newest friend. "Aww, it likes you!" The lunar worker smiled softly at the sight. Ione stared down at Vee, and a smile also faded into their mandibles.
"Oh my god... It's so cute! It's adorable! What's its name?" His six fingers moved down to stroke the soft, cyan fur of the bee-like mammal, who purred at the petting of its head. "Its name? Vee, I was the one who got to name it, since I was the one who found it all alone in my birthplace..."
The newest statement got Agnar to butt into the conversation, since it wasn't usual at all for the domestic animals in the bee empire to be left on the streets without shelter; that's what he's heard from bees in the ant empire. "Wait, does that mean Vee used to be a stray? Doesn't the bee colony take good care of the domestic population usually?"
"I wasn't born in the bee colony, unfortunately..."
Another question was directed at Kiri; Ione was also confused. Bees were usually born in the beehive, a diverse arti-planet full of culture. "Where were you born then, if not the beehive?" It was a touchy subject for them; they didn't answer the question; instead, they stared at the ground for a moment before responding. "I'm sorry, I don't really... like talking about that." "No, it's okay. Don't worry, you don't have to apologize for that." The spider's arms opened up, and the bee sat up and moved forward to wrap their four arms around the arachnid.
Agnar Meir looked at the two, and a fluffy feeling warmed his heart as he saw how quickly they developed a friendship despite meeting just yesterday. Kiri pulled away from the hug, and picked Vee off of Ione's lap before placing it on the ground. "Thanks. Thank you so much for the hug and for everything." "No problem; also, guess what I have planned for us today? Only if you're okay with it, of course." intrigued, both Agnar and Kiri asked, "What is it?"
"I think we should all take a walk through the town! I could introduce you to some of my favorite places, like 'Glutton's Paradise'! They sell about every type of food there, and the employees are really nice too!" the spider said as he held the lunar worker's hand in a gentle manner. His second pair of hands fidgeted as he awaited their answer. The insects looked at the gray arachnid, having their doubts yet agreeing anyway.
Kiri walked up to their vix and crouched down to its level, smiling softly at it. "I'll be gone for a while, okay? But I will be back before you know it." Zeir three fingers softly caressed the fluff around Vee's left cheek; the feline purred and tilted its head upwards. The lunar bee then stood back up and walked towards the door, twisting the knob and holding it open for Ione and Agnar. Their outing had now begun, and the three set off for a small tour around the town of Norac, an old timey place that resembled the Cobalt Era of the galaxy.
While walking, Ione came to stop with a flinch as he was reminded about something he'd forgotten before they and their friends had left the house. Oddly, Agnar and Kiri were getting weird looks from many of the arachnids that inhabited the town. Some parents even moved their kids away from the two insects. Ione soon began to notice this, the confidence in his face fading away.
"I... may have forgotten something!.." Slowly, he turned his head around to look at Kiri and Agnar, his mandibles formed an awkward smile while all eight of his eyes avoided eye contact. "What did you forget? I'm sure it can't be that serious." Agnar looked up at the arachnid, his eyebrow was raised. "If you've forgotten, it can't be too important, I believe." Kiri added. "I forgot that my town is sort of... entomophobic. Some people are okay with insects, while others... not so much." Resisting the urge to slap himself in the face, Agnar dismissed that fact and reassured Ione that it wasn't too bad.
"It's okay, I've gone through worse things than entomophobic people. And if anyone tries to harass us physically, they'll regret it instantly." "I'm with Agnar; you don't need to worry about it; let's continue the little tour you wanted to give us." The bee gently smiled as ze took the spider by the hand and waited for them to lead the way. The walk continued, and they tried to ignore all the looks from the middle-aged mothers and fathers, the way some kids pointed at them, and the whispers of random passersby, which were most likely negative criticisms about their appearance.
The two bugs grew to become very uncomfortable as they explored the place, but the sound of their spider friend's voice commenting on almost everything managed to sooth them a bit. "...and that's the statue of Zul Adecon, the very first spider to make incredible technological advancements to the point where we're just as advanced as the other bigger, stronger planets and empires... Too bad those advancements aren't going to us regular joes, though."
"Oh! And there's that restaurant I was talking about! 'Glutton's Paradise'!" They all came to a quick stop at a seemingly old, vintage, cozy fast food place. There was something resembling those old timey umbrellas around what marked the end of the first floor. It had the colors purple, black, and cyan, while the walls were painted a cool gray. They were made out of bricks and drywall. "You guys need to try out their pizza! It's amazing!" He was really stoked about this, so much so that he grabbed Agnar and Kiri by the wrists and pulled them into the restaurant.
The place had lots of customers and barely any employees—three workers, exactly. A black widow spider, another apollo ant, and a sunny bee, whom all seemed to be friends. Kiri's eyes glistened below the purple light as he admired the beauty of the rustic aesthetic inside the building, while Agnar was too busy trying to take a closer look at the other ant in the building, Something was familiar about him.
Ione called for them to come to the table he picked out. It was his favorite one, the only one closest to the corner, which also had the shape of a circle. They asked about the town while his six-fingered hand tapped the table in a motioned pattern as he stared at the center of it. Kiri did something similar as he shared his opinions, except he was tapping his fingers against each other, while their ant friend was more focused on the people in line who spoke to the cashier.
"What's taking you so long? The workflow in this place is so slow; is it because you're practically brainless without that dumb hivemind of yours?" A common house spider insulted the ant cashier, stereotyping him mindlessly. Agnar insulted him back as he stood out of his seat; he genuinely couldn't stand those people. "You're the one who needs a hivemind since without it, you clearly can't understand how much time it takes to deal with fourty-five different orders with three employees." The arachnid man turned around, and stepped towards the ant, while still keeping his distance, looking at the insect's pockets as if he were some criminal. "Bet you're one of those weak little escapees, aren't ya? I hope you get taken back to the Apollo Empire; you don't deserve to live in the land of freedom." "Clearly, you don't either, since you're unaware that basic respect is expected in public."
"What would you know about respect? Your kind is too aggressive to keep in public." The spider raised his voice for everyone near to hear. "You really take after the land mammals, disrespecting anyone who diverts from what you consider typical." "At least the land mammals know how to behave, you disgusting little-" the cashier, whom the arachnid first insulted, yelled out to him. "Hey buddy! You just earned a special seat in your own living room, along with a free dish of your own worth! Now get the heck out." "You can't tell me what to do; I'm a VIP customer!" 'Doesn't seem very important to me..' thought Agnar as he glared up at the childish man, who now pushed through the line, and slammed his fists against the counter, yelling; "I want your manager!" "Kay, he's right here, let me get him."
The so-called 'manager' was the black widow spider spotted handling some pots and pans when Agnar, Kiri, and Ione first entered the building. He crossed all six of his arms and stared down at the common house spider. "We've banned customers for speciesm before, and we can do it again. It always starts off with a warning, such as kicking them out for a day, but then they start to refuse, which results in a ban. You either leave now or never come back again."
"Does it say that on your website? Because I don't recall that!" The black widow nodded his head, keeping his calm, unlike the other arachnid who stared up at him, while checking his holo-watch. Upon loading the site and scrolling down towards the rules, there was a policy that stated that refusing to exit the establishment after being kicked out. Along with a policy stating directly that speciesm would result in a kick. The common house spider frowned and left the fast food place in a fit of rage, muttering what was most likely insults towards both the employees and Agnar.
The spiky-haired ant then proceeded to turn his head towards the other ant in the building, he could finally look at him closely. He was so glad he'd gone out of the house today. "Leif?" Agnar's eyes lit up as a single tear dripped down his face. "Agnar!" The two ants pulled each other in for a tight hug, crying on each other's shoulders. "I've missed you so much; you don't know how hard it was waiting to find an escape out of the ant colony-"
"Hey! You're holding up the line, your stupid reunion can wait!" An angry, annoyed customer shouted at the duo, forcing Leif and Agnar to pull away and make plans to meet each other later on after this. "Agnar, here's my address, see you in 345." "..Minutes?" "Yeah." The Apollo Ants parted ways until Leif's shift was over. Agnar went back to his table with a smile before being utterly confused by how concerned Kiri and Ione seemed.
