The thirty minutes went by quickly, and the same two guys in a jumpsuit from last time came in, telling them to return to their classes. Luca and Saffi stood up and waved goodbye to the three boys. Adam and Zack remained seated.
"Aren’t we leaving too?" Ian asked.
"We are, but usually someone escorts us to the ground level. We aren't allowed to go down there by ourselves," Adam explained.
"Hey, you three! Follow me!" A man in a gray uniform, who seemed to be of higher rank than the other staff in the jumpsuits, called out to them.
They followed him to the elevator, which took them down to the ground level. Into a lobby area that was reminiscent of a grand hotel, with a soaring ceiling and a glittering chandelier at its center. As they made their way towards the glass doors, Ian caught sight of several wooden doors lining the hallways, each bearing a nameplate indicating the occupant.
They look like offices. His eyes were scanning the area more looking for the main entrance of the facility. Maybe the exit is at the end of those hallways.
He suddenly could feel the chill in the air as they walked through the double doors, emerging onto a glass tunnel that led outside.
The whole place is covered in snow! I can't see any nearby buildings, only snow and trees in the distance. It's the same as what I saw yesterday from the ward window. I wonder what city or country this is. I should ask Adam about it later.
The tunnel connected the building to the Dome, and as they approached, he was awed by its size. Wow, this Dome is huge!
The man opened one of the metal doors leading inside the Dome and allowed the boys to enter by themselves. Ian looked around in amazement as he stepped inside. It was like walking into a park inside a building. To the right was a building that resembled a watchtower, towering over the vast field of grass that lay before them. Further in, Ian noticed a serene lake with a breathtaking view, perfect for relaxation.
And further into the Dome, Ian saw countless trees that resembled a dense forest. They blocked the view of what could be beyond them. The peaceful ambiance was interrupted by the sound of drones buzzing overhead, monitoring their every move. All in all, the Dome was a perfect blend of nature and man-made features.
As the man locked the door behind them, the devices on their neck turned red. Ian felt a surge of power coursing through his body, as if it had been bottled up inside him and was suddenly released, giving him an almost overwhelming sensation, he had never experienced before. A wave of energy emanated from his body and reached Adam and Zack, who both turned to Ian, looking at him in amazement.
“was that you?” said Adam looking at Ian.
Before Ian could answer, a voice boomed out of one of the approaching drones, immediately grabbing their attention.
"HELLO, BOYS," the voice said. "I HOPE YOUR DAY WAS PRODUCTIVE. I SEE THAT YOU MADE NOTICEABLE PROGRESS IN YOUR CLASSES, ZACK!"
Ian swiftly recognized the distinctive voice of Dr. Cain emanating from the drone.
Zack rolled his eyes and shrugged. "Yeah, they're getting kind of boring, you know."
"HAHA, I APOLOGIZE THAT THE CLASSES ARE NOT MEETING YOUR EXPECTATIONS," the voice chuckled. "AND WHAT ABOUT YOU, IAN? HOW WAS YOUR FIRST DAY?"
"um… It was good, I guess" he replied tentatively
"ALLOW ME TO BE SUCCINCT, AS I'M CERTAIN YOU'RE ALL
EAGER TO EXERCISE YOUR ABILITIES, PARTICULARLY IAN," the voice continued
after a pause. "FIRSTLY, ZACK, PLEASE PROCEED TO THE BUILDING FOR YOUR OBSERVATION
TESTS."
Zack replied dismissively, "Yeah, yeah..."
"AND FOR ADAM, PLEASE DEMONSTRATE YOUR TELEKINESIS, AS IT APPEARS THAT IAN
MIGHT POSSESS THE SAME ABILITY AS YOU."
At that moment, Zack glanced at Ian, and their eyes met. Suddenly, a voice entered Ian's head, "Be careful do not show to much of what you can do”
Adam nodded to Dr.Cain’s instruction and looked at Ian, gesturing for him to follow.
But Ian was in a state of confusion and shock, recognizing Zack's voice in his head. What the hell? Did he just talk in my head?
Zack replied to Ian's thoughts,
"Yes, I did."
"You can read my thoughts?" Ian asked incredulously.
"Did you forget what Saffi said about my ability?" Zack reminded him.
"Oh," Ian started to calm down, impressed with Zack’s telepathic.
Adam looked at Ian again, who was still standing in the same spot. He looked in Zack's direction and seemed to understand the situation. Before Dr. Cain could take notice, Adam gently grabbed Ian's wrist. "Come with me, Ian," he said with a smile.
Ian snapped out of his thoughts, realizing that Adam was guiding him into the open field. "Huh? Where are we going?"
"Listen to what Zack is telling you," Adam whispered, concealing his face from the drone that was following them.
Ian looked at the drones that were following them, two of which were on their tail. Then he looked at Zack, who also had a drone following him toward the building. "I don't know what's going on, but this energy inside of me feels like it's going to burst. I'm not even sure how to use it, but there's this feeling that it will just—"
"—comes naturally," Zack interrupted his thoughts.
"Yes," Ian agreed.
"if Cain doesn’t know like you said about your ability it’s best to keep it hidden as much as you can," Zack said.
"I don't understand. Why should I?" Ian asked, confused.
"Are you dumb? I just told you because he doesn’t know what it is," Zack replied in a rude way.
Ian frowned his brow, “I’m not Dumb! Why are you being a jerk?”
"IS EVERYTHING ALRIGHT, IAN? YOU SEEM DISTRACTED," Interrupting their telepathic conversation the drone came closer to Ian's face, startling him.
"Y-Yes...I'm just overwhelmed, sir," he replied quickly, hiding his shock.
"I WOULD ASSUME YOU ARE. IT IS YOUR FIRST DAY, AFTER ALL. I'M SURE TOMORROW YOU'LL START GETTING USED TO EVERYTHING," Dr. Cain responded through the drone.
The two boys stopped walking after four minutes and arrived at an open and spacious area close to the lake, which provided enough room for Adam to use his ability.
"Stand back a bit, Ian," Adam instructed, his gaze fixed on a golf cart parked near the lake.
With a deep breath, he began to concentrate, his purple iris glowing as his mind entirely focused on the object before him. With a sudden burst of energy, he extended his right arm and raised his palm towards the cart. His fingers twitched, and his eyes narrowed in concentration as he summoned his power. The cart shuddered, its wheels lifting from the ground with a groan. Adam's arm trembled with the effort of holding the heavy object aloft, and his muscles strained as he controlled the weight with his mind. With a grunt of exertion, he heaved the golf cart upwards, his arm jerking with the force of the movement. His heart pounded in his chest as he watched the cart arc through the air. The sound of the plash echoed off the walls of the dome as the cart plunged into the water with a resounding splash, sending ripples out across the surface of the lake. Adam showed signs of exhaustion, his body drained from the effort of lifting the heavy cart. But it didn't take him long to regain his strength, and soon he was back to his usual self.
“EXCELLENT WORK ADAM, IT APPEARS THAT YOU ARE MAKING GREAT STRIDES IN YOUR ABILITY TO MANIPULATE HEAVY OBJECTS,” Dr.Cain’s boomed voice from the microphone.
“Yes sir,” Adam replied monotonously, his voice devoid of any emotion.
Meanwhile, Ian was astounded by what he had witnessed and felt an intense urge to use his own ability.
“That was amazing, Adam,” Ian exclaimed in wonderment.
"Thank you," replied Adam, his smile betraying a hint of grateful warmth.
“NOW YOUR TURN, IAN”
Ian's heart began to race as he thought about what he should do. What should I do? He glanced at the building location where Zack was. Damn you Zack, he shut his eyes and focused his thoughts unintentionally on Zack, desperate for an answer. "how am I suppose to be careful when I don’t know what I’m doing?”
To his surprise, Zack's voice suddenly popped into his head. "What the hell? How did you do that?!"
Ian opened his eyes and scanned the area for Zack. “huh! Do what?”
“talking to me
telepathically”
“ I’m not you’re the one who’s reading my mind”
"no, I’m not,” he replied in a firm way “I’m inside the building right now, and I can only use my ability if I see the person in front of me” Zack paused for a few seconds. "You pushed your thoughts into my head."
“I did? Does that mean I’m telepathic too?” an excited tone formed in Ian voice
“do I look like your manual guide? You can put it to test by reading Adam’s thoughts” Zack replied in an impatient and annoyed way.
Ian felt annoyed by Zack’s rudeness and a frown was visible on his face, he looked at Adam and their eyes met, he narrowed his eyes in concentration but the attempt was unsuccessful. Adam's expression showed confusion at what Ian was doing.
“IS EVERYTHING ALRIGHT IAN?” the voice came out from the drone interrupting Ian’s thoughts.
“Um, yes sir” his tone betrayed some anxiety. “I’m just trying to focus…”
He shut his eyes again and focused at Zack. “No I couldn’t hear anything from Adam, can you still hear me?” Ian tone was of frustration.
“yes, I can. Then the other theory is that you opened or allowed a connection to form between us,"
"Seriously, why with you of all people?!" Ian's annoyance grew as he shook his head in frustration, attempting to clear his thoughts. "Whatever, Dr. Cain is watching. How am I supposed to be careful with my ability when I've never used it before?”
Zack paused for a moment before responding. "Consider your abilities as water inside a bottle," Zack advised. " You don't want to pour out all the water at once, do you? The same goes for your powers. Release them gradually and cautiously."
“Fine, I’ll try that”
Ian replied, his tone laced with frustration.
Ian allowed himself to relax and took deep breaths, closing his eyes. He began to feel the energy inside him expanding and building, like a dam about to burst. The rush of power flowing through his veins was intense, and he knew he had to release it. Taking Zack's advice, he attempted to control the flow of the energy, as he tried to let the power out slowly.
Ian lifted his hands up in the air, and as he did, all the rocks around him, ranging from small pebbles to larger ones, began to float upwards. He felt the energy lifting him up from the ground and reaching Adam, who was standing next to him, and even the drones that were flying close by were lifted by his power. It was then that Ian understood what he was doing - he was controlling gravity.
As he opened his eyes, he was amazed to see the objects suspended in mid-air. The sudden display of his power left Ian stunned. The tension he had felt just moments before had vanished, replaced by a sense of liberation and awe. He couldn't believe what he had accomplished.
Floating next to Ian, Adam wore a wide smile on his face, his excitement evident. "Whao!" he exclaimed, marveling at the sensation.
"THAT IS MAGNIFICENT IAN!" Dr. Cain's voice cut through the silence, pulling Ian's attention towards the drone. Suddenly distracted, Ian lost his concentration, and everything fell back to the ground -- including him and Adam.
“IT DIDN'T LOOK LIKE TELEKINESIS. DID YOU CONTROL GRAVITY, IAN?" his voice laced with curiosity
