Ian's eyes widened in surprise at the question. How did he know it was gravity that I controlled?
“I think so, sir” trying to keep the disbelief out of his voice.
“HMM, ONE LAST THING, IAN.” Dr. Cain continued “AS I BELEIVE YOU HAVE ANOTHER ABILITY”
Ian was taken aback. "I do?" confused by Dr. Cain's statement.
“YES IAN, DO YOU FEEL ANYTHING ELSE YOU CAN DO OTHER THAN GRAVITY?” Dr. Cain's tone suddenly turned serious, causing Ian to furrow his brow in uncertainty.
"I'm not sure, sir. Can you explain what you mean?" he asked tentatively.
For a moment, there was silence, and Ian began to feel uneasy about having asked the question.
"FOR NOW, IAN, KEEP PRACTICING. WE CAN DISCUSS THIS LATER," Dr. Cain said finally. "OH, AND ADAM, EXPLAIN THE RULES TO HIM."
“yes, sir” Adam responded monotonously.
“I’LL BE LEAVING YOU BOYS FOR NOW” Dr. Cain said before the drone fell silent.
Ian was left feeling even more uneasy by Dr. Cain's words. He turned to Adam, hoping for an explanation.
Adam noticed Ian's unease and patted him on the shoulder reassuringly. "Don't worry about it, Ian," he said with a smile.
Ian tried to push Dr. Cain's cryptic message out of his mind and focused on practicing his abilities. Adam proceeded to explain the rules to him.
"So, the rules are mainly to not wander too far from the lake and never to go into the dense tree area unless you are told to."
"Is that all?" Ian asked, curious about the forbidden area.
Adam nodded. "Pretty much."
Ian looked toward the dense trees, wondering why and what lay beyond. but the answer was clear, it was likely difficult to watch them through the drones there.
“let’s go over there” Adam gestured towards the benches on the opposite side of the lake. "Okay," Ian replied, following Adam's lead. As they walked, Ian realized that Zack had been silent the whole time. He looked towards the building. I wonder, is he finished?
"No, I'm not. Ten minutes to go," Zack's voice suddenly filled Ian's head.
"Jeez! You scared me! Are you always going to be hearing my thoughts like that?" Ian sounded concerned.
"I don't know, you tell me.”
“what do you mean?”
“do I need to repeat everything to you? I said I’m not the one who’s reading your thoughts you’re the one who’s pushing it to me”
"So, you're saying I'm doing this?" Ian asked trying to ignore Zack's rude tone
" Congratulation! Look who finally figured it out” his voice was dripping with sarcasm and a hint of annoyance.
Ian took a deep breath and tried to remain calm and not lose his temper before he asked "Then how do I stop it?"
"Beats me," Zack replied dismissively.
"dude! Can you stop being a fucking jerk for a moment?" Ian snapped with irritation.
"No."
“…” Ian felt speechless at Zack's response. "Whatever, I'll figure it out myself," he said with a frown, feeling annoyed. He tried to ignore Zack and focus on himself and how to use his ability to its fullest.
As they made their way across the lake, Ian was mesmerized by the surrounding scenery. The dome was enormous, and despite being indoors, there was a variety of wildlife, including birds and insects. The air was cool and refreshing, and the lake itself provided a sense of tranquility.
After a few minutes, Adam stopped and announced, "This is our usual spot." The area was a normal spot, but had a great view of the whole lake. To their left was the dense forest, while the building where Zack was, situated in front of them on the other side of the lake. There were benches and trees they could sit under, and it was easy to access the lake from this side.
Adam sat on one of the benches and started waving his hand in a fluid motion, using his telekinetic ability to lift small rocks and throw them into the lake. Ian watched in awe as Adam effortlessly controlled the movement of the rocks with a swing of his fingers.
"So, how does it feel to use your ability for the first time?" asked Adam, turning to Ian with a curious smile.
Ian looked down at his own hand, flexing his fingers. "I'm not sure," he paused for a few seconds, contemplating the sensation. "It feels amazing, I guess."
Adam nodded, his expression shifting from a smile to a frown tinged with anger. "Yeah, it does," he said, lifting another rock this time bigger and hurling it into the lake. "If only we could use it freely all the time..."
The sound of the rock hitting the water echoed across the lake, and Ian flinched at the sudden noise. He glanced over at Adam, feeling a twinge of concern. His fingers traced the device on his neck, a reminder of the restraint this device has on them.
Adam gazed at the ripples the rock made on the water's surface for a few moments before turning his attention back to Ian. With a friendly smile, he asked, "Are you not going to use your ability?"
Ian nodded, determined to put aside his uneasy feelings and focus on learning about his ability.
He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, feeling the cool lake breeze brush against his skin. focusing on the sensation of gravity pulling him down towards the earth. He opened his eyes and lifted his arms up, imagining himself as a magnet that could attract anything he wanted.
He took another deep breath and concentrated hard, trying to manipulate the gravitational force around him. At first, nothing happened, but after a few moments, he felt a slight shift in the air around him. Adam noticed the leaves rustling on the trees and the birds taking off in a flurry of wings.
Ian grinned, feeling a rush of excitement. He extended his arms and began to move them in circular motions, trying to control the gravitational force around him. He felt a tingle in his fingertips as he focused harder, but this time trying to lift only himself off the ground.
Slowly, he began to rise, his feet lifting off the ground. He felt the wind rush past him, his hair whipping around in the breeze. He closed his eyes and focused harder, trying to keep his balance.
Suddenly, he felt a sharp pain in his head and lost his concentration. He fell back down to the ground, landing on his feet with a thud. He gritted his teeth, feeling frustrated.
Adam, who had been watching in awe, spoke up. "That's cool!"
"But it takes too much concentration and energy," Ian replied, feeling discouraged.
Adam reassured him, "Yeah, it does. But with more practice, your stamina will build up."
Sighing, Ian took a deep breath and closed his eyes once again, feeling the gravitational pull around him. He began to move his arms again, trying to lift himself off the ground.
This time, he concentrated harder, trying to control the force more precisely. He felt his body begin to rise again, slower this time but more controlled. He moved his arms in small, circular motions, feeling the force respond to his commands.
He opened his now glowing amber eyes and grinned, feeling a sense of accomplishment. He hovered in the air for a few more moments before slowly lowering himself back down to the ground.
Just then, a sudden whistle sounded like an awe behind him, grabbing both Adam and Ian's attention. It was Zack, back from his test session.
“hey, Zack” Adam Greeted him as he approached
Zack didn't respond vocally, preferring to communicate telepathically. Adam nodded and gave him a gentle smile as he walked over to sit next to him on the bench
Ian felt awkward as he looked at Zack, remembering their previous conversation. But Zack didn't show any signs of being upset or displeased. Their eyes met and Zack spoke in Ian's mind, "Why did you stop practicing? I'm curious to know more about your ability."
"Why do you care?" Ian responded, raising an eyebrow.
Zack gazed at Ian for a few seconds, but decided not to answer his question. He got off the bench and went to lay down under a tree instead. Meanwhile, Adam continued practicing his ability by trying to lift the golf cart from the lake.
Ian frowned at Zack's attitude, wondering why he kept acting that way. Is it that hard to explain? Ugh, whatever, he's just a jerk. I'll try floating again instead of worrying about all of this.
At that moment, Zack frowned and without looking at Ian, spoke into his mind again, "Would you stop pushing your thoughts into me? It's annoying when I'm not even using my ability on you."
"I'm not even trying to push it...are you sure you even know how to control your own ability?" Ian asked with honesty and curiosity.
But Zack took it as an insult, and his face showed a hint of anger. "I know exactly what I'm doing, unlike you," he retorted.
Ian felt his cheeks redden with anger. "You don't know anything about me," he pushed his thoughts forcefully to Zack, his voice tinged with frustration.
Zack sighed in frustration that Ian kept forcing his thoughts into him. He sat up to face Ian and smirked. "And do you even know about yourself?" he mocked.
Ian couldn't reply. He didn't know anything about his past, and now he was struggling to understand his own ability. He stood there, frowning at Zack.
"I thought so," said Zack, brushing him off. "Now go practice your ability and stop forcing your thoughts into me."
Ian muttered under his breath, “It’s not like I’m doing it on purpose…” He clenched his fists in frustration and was about to attempt floating again when a sudden gust of wind whipped around him. At first, he thought it was because he was trying to float, but the winds around Ian intensified, causing Zack’s and Adam’s hair to whip around their faces. The nearby drones that were watching them also lost their balance and began to wobble in the air, struggling to maintain their position.
Adam was confused as to why there was a sudden gust of wind, but he turned around and saw Ian and Zack looking at each other intently. Adam had been so focused on trying to lift the golf cart out of the water that he hadn't noticed the intense telepathic conversation happening between the two.
Ian's eyes glowed and widened in surprise as he realized he was the one causing the winds. He tried to regain control, but the winds only grew stronger with his panicking emotions.
Zack immediately noticed that Ian was losing control. With a deep breath, his blue and red iris glowed as he focused his mind and sent a calm, reassuring voice into Ian's head. "Ian, calm down. Take a deep breath and control your emotions."
As the voice echoed in Ian's mind, he felt a wave of relaxation wash over him. It was impossible to resist Zack’s voice. His muscles eased, and the tension in his body began to dissipate. Ian took a deep breath and felt his anger slowly dissipate. Gradually, the winds began to subside until they returned to their normal state. Throughout the ordeal, Zack maintained the calming voice in Ian's mind, soothing him until he was completely relaxed.
Ian opened his eyes and looked at Zack, feeling both embarrassed and relieved. But Zack's expression was unsettling, with a glint in his eye and a half-smile that spoke of excitement. Ian shifted uncomfortably under his gaze.
Adam's voice interrupted his thoughts, bringing his attention to him. "What was that?"
Ian looked at Adam, but before he could answer, Zack spoke in Ian’s mind. "Tell him it's gravity and you lost control. I'll explain to him telepathically what happened."
Confused, Ian turned back to Zack and asked, "Why?”
"Just do it," said Zack, indicating the drone that was watching them.
Reluctantly, Ian said, "Um, I lost control..."
Adam chuckled, "There's nothing to be embarrassed about, Ian. This is your first time using your ability." He leaned in close to Ian, patting his head, and Ian noticed how deep and beautiful Adam's purple eyes were, as well as his long eyelashes. Ian's felt the blood rush into his face turning it red at the proximity. And the only word he could think of was, beautiful.
As Ian was lost in thought, Zack's snicker interrupted his reverie, causing him to glare at Zack with embarrassment. Adam noticed the tension and tried to diffuse the situation, "Hey, don't let him get to you. Trust me, he likes you but doesn't know how to express it."
Ian replied skeptically while rolling his eyes, "Yeah, sure..."
Despite his earlier reluctance, the boys continued practicing their abilities until late afternoon. Eventually, Zack instructed Ian not to use his wind ability, which Ian initially protested against. However, Adam managed to convince Ian to trust Zack.
