Meanwhile, in a small apartment in the middle of the city, no alarm was needed to wake up the children of the household. Instead, a shrill yell from their mother served as their alarm, already dressed in her suit for her work as she set down breakfast. She went to each room, banging on each bedroom door of her children
"WAKE UP! YOU'RE GONNA BE LATE!"
The eldest son, jumped up from his bed at the noise. His eyes widened, a hand to his chest to keep himself from hyperventilating. "Mom…" He hissed and forced himself up from the floor before he ran to his private bathroom to take a shower.
The third eldest child, already used to the banging, rolled around on his bed. He frowned at his mother's abrupt interruption to his dream and rubbed his eyes before purposely falling off the bed. "It's too early…" he yawned as he crawled to his private bathroom slowly.
The youngest daughter sighed at the morning call, as used to it as her older brother, but not as tired. She kicked her blanket off of her then hopped off her bed with a yawn. "When can we ever sleep in…" she rubbed her eyes as she carefully got her towel and headed to her own private bathroom.
Only the second eldest boy still slept soundly in his bed, snoring away despite the shrill voice of their mother and the sound of his siblings in their showers. His glasses were on his pillow, while the bags under his eyes indicated well enough that he had stayed up all night.
And the flashing light of his computer and the tablet on his bed made it obvious what he had stayed up all night doing.
"Jackran?" There was soon a knock at the door, and the eldest son looked inside the room. He frowned when he saw his brother still snoring away. "Are you serious?" He went to his brother's bed and snatched a pillow.
Jackran groaned and opened his eyes tiredly. "Kertan, just five more minutes…"
"No, we don't have 'five more minutes', Jackran." Kertan shook his head. "Tristan and Shawran are already eating with Mom, and you know how she gets when we're late." He grabbed his brother by the legs and pulled him off the bed. "Come on. Up and at em."
"Nooo… No school…" Jackran whined. "Let me stay and play my games…"
"Jackran, you've been playing all night!" Kertan huffed. "You need to get over these silly little video games and start focusing on important things."
"What could be more important than gaming?" Jackran questioned.
"School? Your health? Literally anything than games?" Kertan crossed his arms. "I can go on, Jackran, and you know that I'll end up right,"
"Ugh, whatever," Jackran forced himself up. "Tell Mom I'll be done in a second."
"You better," Kertan glared before sighing and exiting the room.
Jackran watched him leave. When the door shut, he scoffed. "Oh, 'stop playing silly video games, Jackran. Blah blah blah! Not good for your health!' Yeah right…" He dusted himself off.
Like he'd listen.
He was a gamer, after all. A pro gamer, as what his classmates say about him and his skills. He was usually found gaming with some gaming friends he met in the Gamers Club rather than studying for school.
Lucky enough, he was good in Math and bits of Science, so he could still pass school. It was a small loophole that he used against his mother's argument that the video games would distract him from important school work and such.
Not the best loophole… but it was better than nothing.
It took him a while to change into his uniform after his shower. Once he did, he placed his tablet by the bedside table to charge it then grabbed his phone from another charging outlet before he walked out with his backpack on his shoulders.
Outside, their brother was washing the dishes while Kertan and Shawran was still eating. He smiled and waved Jackran over. "Hey! Mom's preparing the car, so we'll be here a while," he chuckled. "You stayed up playing video games again?"
"You've got to stop playing those unhealthy video games." Their sister huffed. "You can't keep staying up late just because you haven't finished some quest!"
"I can do what I please, Shawran, get off my back." Jackran glared and grabbed a form to eat with.
"Don't blame her for pointing out what's obvious, Jackran," Their brother frowned.
"Oh, get off my back too, Tristan." Jackran scowled.
"Jackran." Kertan glared. "You and I both know that they're right. You can't just sleep late, wake up early. It's unhealthy for your body,"
"I'm fine, and I'll continue to be fine." Jackran hissed. "Why are you guys so concerned, anyway!? It's not like you guys actually care!"
"We do care, you just don't want to accept our care!" Shawran cried out.
"Guys, please no fighting," Tristan winced.
"Yeah," Kertan got between them. "Break it up before either of you break a bone, and Jackran, we all know that between you and Shawran, you're more sensitive to getting hurt,"
"This is a whole load of BS." Jackran threw his fork down and turned to head back to his room.
"Jackran! You need to finish breakfast!" Tristan tried to run after them.
Kertan, however, stepped between them. "Jackran needs his space, and forcing out beliefs onto him wouldn't be healthy. That's enough,"
Tristan looked saddened, but he nodded and sat down to eat. Shawran rolled her eyes, not a care to the world as she finished her meal. Once she was done, she grabbed her bag and stomped out of the apartment, throwing the plates to the dishwasher.
Kertan patted Tristan's back. "I'll wash up, you go ahead and wait with Shawran,"
Tristan beamed and hugged his brother. "Thanks, Kertan!" He got his his bag and ran after their sister.
Kertan sighed and began to wash the dishes. He didn't even need to look back to hear Jackran returned to his seat to eat. He sighed. "You know that we're just worried about you, Jack…"
"Don't bother." Jackran finished his meal quickly and placed the dishes on the sink. "I can take care of myself." He huffed and grabbed his backpack before walking out of the house.
