Taking a deep breath, Lei Qiu looked to the mansion standing in front of him. Turning around, he smiled brightly at the little one beside him.
“Xiao Bai, why don’t you go back to the cabin while I go and wrap up some things?”
Frowning, Bai Huiliang furrowed his brow and looked up at him (LQ). “Gege, what do you-”
Patting his (BH) head, Lei Qiu smiled nervously. “I’m just going to the kitchen to get you some food. You haven’t eaten yet today.”
Shaking his head, Bai Huiliang looked up at Lei Qiu angrily. “No! You just got beat for that yesterday!” Tears pooled in his eyes “I wont let you get hurt because of me again…Please Gege, please don’t-”
“Bai Huiliang.” Lei Qiu looked down at him (BH) with a serious expression on his face. “I’ll handle it ok? I’ll be quick so that you can eat. Everything will be fine, I promise. Trust Gege alright?”
Though reluctance hung heavily in his eyes, little Bai clenched his fist and chained his jaw in silence. Nodding happily, Lei Qiu ruffled the little one's hair and went off on his way.
In the original plot this is where I die. I can’t die here now. I can’t.
Sneaking into the mansion, Lei Qiu used the memories of the original user to guide him towards the kitchen. Lifting his rag of a shirt up, Lei Qiu created a sort of open area to place and carry food. Not that it would matter, seeing as he was bound to get caught. Nervously shuffling through small foods like pieces of bread, cheese, and scraps of meat left for animals, Lei Qiu quickly filled his shirt with food. Food was not to meet its destination. In the next instant the sound dishes falling to the floor rang out from behind him. The sound startled him into dropping all of the food he had stored away.
“F-fu Ren…Please allow this subordinate to explain-”
In a few short steps, the fuming angry woman made her way in front of him and slapped the small boy across his face, the momentum sending him onto the ground.
“You dare?!” She laughed coldly “It would seem I wasn’t clear enough the last time when I said what would happen if I ever caught you stealing from me again.”
Gritting his teeth, Lei Qiu raised his voice. “Please miss! I and Bai Huiliang haven’t eaten in days! If not me then please feed him! He’s younger than I and-”
Her sharp heel jabbed into his stomach and chest. “Do you think I have the time to care about you worthless rats?? That food would be put to better use in feeding pigs rather than the two of you.” A kick more painful than the rest was sent to his face causing Lei Qiu to shrivel up in pain on the ground. Blood seeped out of his nose and onto the floor. “And now you’re dirtying the floor, my floor?!” Picking up the closest thing to her which was a glass bowl, she raised it above her head “I’ll be adding this to your debt. Be sure to clean this up when you’re done.”
She was about to throw the bowl down onto Lei Qiu when another voice, stricken with fear and worry came from the doorway. “Miss! Please don’t hurt him! Ge-” Bai Huiliang was panting as if he had run there. “-...Lei Qiu was only getting the food for me!” He came into the room and hurriedly went to cover Lei Qiu.”Please don’t hurt him again Fu Re-” His words were cut short as a lightly clenched fist met his face in a mean punch. The impact caused the child to almost fall backwards before he caught himself and continued to stand in front of the lady of the house, blocking her from Lei Qiu.
Seeing this boy protect the other only served to further fuel her anger. “Such Insolence? You both need to be disciplined. Children who aren’t beat will only grow up to be criminals and wreak havoc amongst the people. Heavens strike me down if I fail to discipline you both properly!” her hand raised again prepared to slap the boys again. A firm palm was brought upon one's face in a slap, yet the one being slapped wasn’t one of the boys? No, the instant that palm struck skin, that woman was sent flying backwards knocking many cups and bowls out of their shelves and onto the floor. She held her redding cheek in shocked pain and anger.
The nervousness seeped out and left Lei Qiu’s body causing his fist to unclench, revealing a very detailed and beautiful paper fan. Sighing lightly an esteemed young looking man in white robes entered the room. His voice rang out carrying a sense of superiority. “Oh. I must apologize for my behavior. It would seem I hit a lady. And here I thought I saw a demon in the flesh. You must understand that as a cultivator I…” He held his face as if he were the one aggrieved. “I just feel the urge to exorcize a brute when I see one.” Straightening his posture he made his way into the room and held out a hand to the fallen lady. “I am Sect Leader Xia Yongrui of Qingmen sect. I’ve actually come to invite your two young servants to join my sect.” Not allowing the still shocked woman any time to speak, he went on, “Seeing as these two boys trouble you so much I’d be more than willing to take them off your hands. And besides-” He said retracking his hand and taking a spare fan out. “I’m quite sure you wouldn’t want this…ordeal to get out to the people…would you?”
“I…I…”
“No? Exactly. Now then seeing as we have reached a nice agreement, the three of us will be on our way. Do be careful now, miss, you’d hate to get mistaken for a brute again, now wouldn’t you?” On the note Bai Huiliang helped Lei Qiu up and the three of them left. This was the start of both of their new lives together. A life in which Lei Qiu would see better days and a life where Bai Huiliang never lost his friend. And as that mansion faded into the distance, so did that part of their lives.
