When Arceus has checked that no other townspeople are hiding out, he transforms back into his Normal-Type and heads toward the settlement. With the water-type Judgement that Arceus had unleashed, the fires that had scorched the trees had been extinguished, but the forest behind him lay in ruins. As Arceus's anxiety about Chara's safety increased, he made a mental note to return here after he learned her whereabouts.
Afora drags Chara by the neck as she retraces her steps up the stairs to the living room of the house. She gazes out the window once more, eager to witness what is happening. While her injuries made her vision hazy, Chara cautiously and feebly opened her own eyes as well. “Arceus…”
Arceus floats down to the town, hovering over the golden flower patch in the middle. He surveys the area before "speaking" to everyone, saying, "My name is Arceus. I must know: is this the town where Chara, the little girl, was born? For what reason, if that is the case, have you tried to take my life? I am here solely to see my friend again; therefore, I implore you, please, tell me her current whereabouts. And I promise I will leave you alone!!"
Hearing Arceus's voice in her head makes Chara slowly look up. The sound of Arceus' voice in Chara's head makes her try to stand up straighter, which makes her even more determined to escape. But the second she tries, her knees give out, and she collapses even more helplessly into Afora's embrace. Despite Chara's determination to escape and find a way to capture Arceus' attention, the severity of her wounds made it impossible.
“Grrrr… Quiet down, you spoiled brat! Would you prefer it if he murdered us both?!" Snarling, Afora tightens her grip on Chara's neck, nearly strangling her. She then releases her grip, causing Chara to cough in pain. As Chara regained her composure, she made another attempt to summon Arceus, fervently hoping that he would hear them from the window or somewhere, all the while ignoring her own wounded body as she fought for freedom.
Tragically, Arceus could scarcely make out her voice; it was barely audible above a whisper. However, he does manage to catch a glimpse of a middle-aged woman who looks like Chara choking a younger child from a window in one of the houses. But just as he was about to poke his head in, some hapless villager hurled a stone at him. But the stone smacked his ring and drew his attention.
Following this, Arceus appears to teleport as he charges the villagers who threw the stone. Before the villager could blink, Arceus had them pinned to the ground with his front legs pressing against their chest, his glare fixed upon them. "Why are you so adamant about assaulting me?! Despite the fact that I have done nothing to deserve your anger and hatred, you have all chosen to attempt to murder me. Once again, I must inquire: where is Chara?! My tolerance for you mere mortals is evaporating…”
As the village below him struggles to exhale and free himself from Arceus's crushing footfall, theman cries out, "D-do not hurt me..."
People in the village lost all of their confidence after seeing Arceus attack quickly and out of the blue. When he saw the villagers' fear, Arceus carefully released some of his weight from their chest. Perhaps some of the villagers were not completely insane, but rather badly led.
Upon noticing that up ahead, Afora recklessly pulls Chara's body along as she flung open the door. "Enough already! Do not hurt him any more, you devil!!” Afora yells out, desperate to put an end to this before other villagers are injured or killed.
Arceus looks up at Afora with a piercing gaze as she opens the door. When he finally laid eyes on Chara, who was in a strangehold by her mother, he let go of the man he had been squeezing under his foot and released the villagers' chest. Her face was entirely bruised, and her arms hung limp by her side.
Arceus quickly approaches Chara and Afora, his anger visible on his face, signaling that he would not hesitate to confront her if she dared to challenge him. The villager then runs away.
"Release her..." With a telepathic speech into Afora's mind, Arceus makes a demand, sending shivers down her spine.
"Y-Y....you want this damn brat? T—then take her! Let us be alone already, please!" Afora shouts in fear and throws Chara to the ground, hoping to appease Arceus and turn him away, deciding it was all worthless for one stupid, worthless child.
After Chara's bloodied face and nose hit the hard pavement of her family's driveway, the rest of her body followed suit, causing her to yell out in agony. After that, Arceus overhears a couple of the villagers muttering something about how shocked they were to hear that Chara was in such bad shape.
“How awful…”
"That poor thing..."
"How could anybody do this???" The villagers murmur amongst themselves, with some even considering a vote to expel Salenor and Afora from the village as a whole for endangering their safety. Some even started to doubt Salenor's leadership abilities after seeing how he treated his own daughter. Regardless of whether Salenor had "saved" the village or not, the fact remained that no one wanted a leader who had a history of abusing children.
But Arceus turns his back on them and begs the woman in front of him, "You should be ashamed of yourself, treating her like this." After sadly taking in Chara's fresh wounds and bloodstained clothes, he grimaces and looks down at Chara. “And before you get all spiteful, I guess it would help to remember that you were the one who attacked me. My friend Chara is the only reason I am here. So please do not make it seem like I suddenly became hostile toward you or the villagers.”
Following that, he carefully lowers himself, getting down on one knee as Arceus gently nuzzles the top of Chara's head,'speaking' to her in a gentler tone that remains laced with fury despite his best efforts. “Chara, can you hear me, child? It’s me, Arceus….”
“A…..arc…us….” Chara whispers painfully as she is nuzzled and fights to remain conscious. Even though her wounds were serious, she was relieved that Arceus appeared to be unharmed. “Y….you….’re o….kay….”
“Of course I am. Do you really believe a few nasty humans can kill me? I am more concerned about you.... I apologize for not being here sooner. I should have known and stayed to keep you safe." Arceus tells her in the gentlest voice he can manage. His rage grows as he examines Chara's wounds and realizes how serious they are.
“I…it…n-not… y….your fault… It d-doesn’t even… h-hurt….that bad….”Before trying to sit up, Chara could only manage a fingertip before flinching in agony.
When the other villagers also see this, and Chara is even unable to move, they all start to whisper among themselves that once Arceus and Lilith are gone to have her treated, they will have a meeting about what to do with Afora and Salenor, not realizing that Salenor was already dead.
“Shhhh, you don’t have to look brave in front of me,” Arceus whispers as he nuzzles her more, his expression turning solemn. I will not allow any of them to cause you harm any longer.
Fearing that Arceus may change his mind and decide to attack her next, Afora says nothing as she watches him nervously. Her thoughts now worried about the villagers and whether they would exile her.
Chara lets out another weak groan of pain when touched, but she also appreciates the efforts. “I... I kn-know... I-I j…jus-” Chara begins to speak, but ends her sentence abruptly as she passes out.
Arceus' wrath appears to boil over at this point, but he quickly calms himself because he knows Chara needs his assistance. After metamorphosing into a psychic, Arceus uses his telekinesis to delicately raise Chara into the air, and then he takes flight once more. He opens a portal to return to his dimension once he reaches a height where he can no longer be seen from the village.
Upon arrival, he delicately places Chara on top of some puffy clouds, which conceal the floor pattern bearing the symbol of the Sinjoh Ruins. After transforming back into his normal self, Arceus reassures the worried babies who rush over to see Chara's injuries that she will be alright and can resume playing. After the babies leave the scene to play nearby, Arceus transforms into a grass type and uses "Heal Pulse" to heal Chara’s wounds to the best of his ability.
After what seems like an eternity, Chara's wounds finally start to mend, but it takes her another ten to thirty minutes before she is adequately healed to open her eyes, a little bewildered and confused.
If he could, Arceus gives Chara the expression that makes him smile as he expresses his relief at her gradual awakening. "Greetings, Chara. Do not be afraid; I have taken you to my home. You're safe now.”
“Arceus…? Where am I? And um, thanks.” Chara smiles as she slowly sits up, disoriented. She then notices they are in a bubble? In spite of being able to breathe within the bubble, the sky gave the impression that they were floating through space, with numerous galaxies and stars visible to her. Upon further inspection, Chara noticed that she was perched on what appeared to be clouds, and beneath them, a peculiar symbol illuminated the floor.
"You are most welcome, my dear," Arceus says before nuzzling her softly. "To heal you, I brought you to my dimension for a short time. How do you feel?"
As she tenderly embraces his face, Chara says, "I'm... alright, I think," and giggles at being nuzzled. Just a little disoriented. And I must say, this location is absolutely breathtaking! Are we really in outer space now?"
"Well, I guess you could say that. Where my dimension is located is what humans would call "in space," but no one can enter or leave this dimension without my permission. Arceus does his best to make things clear.
"That is really cool!" Chara smiles. “I didn’t know monsters can create their own dimensions??”
“Hm? Let me assure you, little one: I am not a monster. A "magical creature" could be the most accurate way to describe us.” Arceus explains gently.
“Just like a monster, yeah. Even monsters can be magical, though that is not my intention. That is exactly what your species is, right?" Chara asks, not sure what to say and hoping not to offend Arceus by accident.
"Hmm, is that what people in your world call us?" Arceus asks, and Chara nods.
“It seems that one of the monsters absorbed a human soul during the war, which led to the exile of the rest of the species, which is why most of them were trapped underground. With all due respect to you four, I do not believe the Monsters were evil,” as Chara elucidates. “There must have been an error, because you guys are so much nicer than the rest of us humans... The fact that you and the children escaped unscathed from the Barrier is something I can not fathom. Or did you build this dimension to get past the Barrier?”
Arceus gives Chara a look as if he were about to smile if he could. “We were never confined by a barrier, and not every person is evil. I mean, you exist. right?”
"I am terrible... Especially as a human who hates humans for their treatment of Monsters... Chara replies simply and stops hugging him, “But thanks anyways… for trying to make me feel better….”
While doing his best to contain his rekindled rage, Arceus responds, "You are welcome, Chara," while softly nuzzling her and offering words of consolation. To make a child hate herself that much… How could those villagers justify treating a child like they did? Let alone how their own birth child at that?!
Based on what he had witnessed, Arceus was sick to his stomach at the idea of subjecting his own children to the same treatment that Afora had meted out to Chara. For what purpose would it be justified to kick, burn, and beat them until they pass out? Simply because they exist? Why were not they just pretty trinkets that they could shape into anything they wanted to show off to everyone, instead of actual living beings that messed up as they lived and learned? Just because they were unique?
In response to Chara's inquisitive and terrified expression, Arceus shut his eyes and reined in his growing wrath.
In due course.
He would get answers later. He needed to comfort Chara and ensure she was truly okay.
Chara loosened up and embraced Arceus tenderly once more as she sensed his anxiety beginning to dissipate. "...Please, do not bring me back there..." Still apprehensive about Arceus's possible rejection, Chara whispered as she asked if she could remain with him and the babies.
"No, I will not. Never again will I let them harm you in any way. I promise you.” Arceus makes a vow as he presses his face against her petite frame. "I will watch over you for the rest of my eternal life."
Nodding in agreement, Chara senses sincerity in his words and believes he will follow through on his word... "Alright then..."
With another delicate movement, Arceus steps back and offers Chara the same expression, as if he could smile, he would. Chara felt compelled to trust him after seeing the mix of warmth and sadness in his eyes. "I will return, alright. I just have one last task to complete. Please remain here until I am through.”
