"Alright, breathe slowly, Juliette..." Amidst my attempt to remain calm, my overabundance of thoughts gathers together like a disheveled ball of yarn. When you try to get rid of one string, only to find another string intertwining at the edge.
Why?
There are gazillions of questions that need to be answered, one of them being Rapture's reason for capture. However, tied to a rope that binds all of my limbs, I find that question hardly relevant for the moment. That's right. What I should focus on is to escape and head for the grand opening celebration.
It’s distressing how I’m so close to the venue, and yet so far at the same time!
I'm so close, but why does it have to be like this!?
Then, someone opens the door, from there comes a pair of strange-looking individuals covered in masks. They’re most likely Rapture members tasked with guarding the goods, the goods being me.
One of them extends a hand to me, and I simply do what's natural; self-defense.
“Hey!” I bit his palm and he yelped in pain, but what I didn’t anticipate was one of his hands yanking my hair, aggressively pushing my face to the ground.
“Dang it, she's all bite! How on Tellus were you a properly educated lady!?”
The man who had his arm bitten complained. I have so many things to say about that line in particular, but there’s no time for it. Noticing my own strands of hair lying haphazardly on the floor, an idea comes to me and I smirk at my pursuers.
What they fail to anticipate is an abrupt onslaught done by birds emerging from the ground.
Correction, it’s artificially made birds, created by my own hair strands. Humans, or Defiled in this context are powerless by default, making it easier to distinguish them in a world filled with bizarre wonders. Even if a Defiled child was born from the union between a Tellusen and Defiled parent, they will completely inherit their Defiled side, and without a speck of their share as a half-Tellusen.
For an unknown reason, I’m a special exception, and my mother used everything at her disposal to make sure I could defend myself upon discovering my anomalies. Now then, most of you were probably thinking that if I were to podsess a Trait, aren't I supposed to be inheriting the blessings of Makos' knowledge? Well... to emphasize it again, I am a special exception, and after years of searching for a scientifically sound answer, almost all medical experts I encountered concluded my condition as 'a rarity among rarities', but they couldn't rule it whether this counts as a state of being disabled or not. They proposed for me to have a periodic check up, in the name of science and research, but my mother wouldn't allow it, reasoning that she was unwilling to let her Defiled daughter be treated like a test subject.
Since the discovery that I can learn Traits from a different Path, my mother invited a close colleague of hers. Though the face of this colleague in question is long forgotten, I remember how callous his hands were as he guided me into making hand gestures.
The same gestures he taught me are now being used to free myself from this situation.
The remaining birds scratch my binds until it tore off by itself, freeing me in that instant. While the remaining birds keep them preoccupied, I leave the room, only to be greeted by more of these masked individuals.
“Get her!” Out of panic, my vision rolled to the side, locating the one and only way of exit, and thought of the craziest idea.
“It’s now or never.” Both my body and mind soars to the window, and all I hear is the sound of glass breaking as I free fall from the second floor. To ease my landing, I used a hair strand to grapple one of the pipes, and settled comfortably on the dampen ground, on the other side of the building.
Only then I realized, it’s raining outside.
Glancing above, their faces struck me as a state of pure shock. There’s a certain satisfaction knowing that I managed to outrun THAT Rapture. But not for long, until one of them cried about chasing me, and I dash past the drizzel for my safety.
A woman with many "mistakes", Juliette Richter commits to build the most normal and standard life of a law abiding citizen so that she may pay for her "mistakes". One day, she came across as a terrorist target, becoming another addition to her "mistakes".
Will she be able to pay her "mistakes", whatever that is?
