"Where are you headed...?" Chara inquires, her voice becoming increasingly concerned.
"There are just a few things that require my attention... I will free you from those people once and for all. If my protection is something that worries you, I can defend myself adequately." Arceus informs her delicately before nuzzling her little face again. Just as Chara was about to intervene, Arceus re-entered Chara's village through a different portal, and he vanished.
Just then, Grir, Parr, and Dia all encircled Chara, whom they subsequently comforted with their reassuring growls.
"Arrurh be okay." All of the babies say simultaneously, and Chara nods, turning to them and gently petting each of them on the head, though it doesn’t stop her from worrying about Arceus' safety.
A spear is hurled and whizzes past Arceus's head as he returns to the village. As the portal that Arceus has emerged from is closing behind him, the spear flies under it, narrowly avoiding passing through.
"Go away!" In spite of their fear, one of the village magicians, Avior, tries to sound dominant by shouting.
The moment the spear-thrower villager tries to flee, Arceus pounces on him, knocking him to the ground and pinning him down with his lightning speed.
"Not until I have some answers. Why did you all harm Chara? Did none of you even try to assist her? And why did you attack me despite the fact that I had done nothing to you?” Arceus demands, as he "speaks," his voice becomes louder. Any sentimentality or gentleness he had displayed earlier had vanished towards the one who was still attempting to attack him. Now enraged, Arceus exudes an air of commanding presence.
"Why? Someone is going to kill him if he returns to that place. Why is he doing this for me?!" Chara begs, her voice cracking with anguish, "Arceus!! please return; I can't, it should be me!!" as visions of Arceus being speared to death and fleeing in terror cross her mind. "Not you!" The realization that she can not do anything to alleviate the situation causes Chara to lose it, and she starts crying.
"G-get away from me, monster!!" Avior screams, "Do not take my SOUL!" Please!!"’
For some reason, this calms Arceus down a bit. Along his journey, he had visions of other worlds teeming with terrifying beasts. Had this been that kind of world? Could that be the reason why these people had attacked him? "I have no desire to take your SOUL. I just want to know the truth. For what reason did you inflict such mortal harm upon Chara? She is human, just like you, is she not?"
"Crara, it okay. Arrrr, okay." Dialga gives Chara extra nuzzles, as Grir chirps back. After all, everyone in the family knew how powerful their father was.
A sense of relief washes over Chara, but it is not enough. It did not matter how powerful Arceus was; he would likely face the same seven magicians who, in a single day, slaughtered half the monster population and buried the remaining half underground, beneath the mountain. Also, each of them possessed an absurd amount of power... Arceus could not possibly face them all on his own, and Chara was understandably concerned about this. For what reasons did he think he would come back?
"I swear! I was completely unaware of her situation! Nobody would ever dare to challenge Salenor!" Avior cried out desperately.
"And why is that?" Arceus responded, trying to keep his voice even. "How could you have possibly overlooked the fact that Chara was a victim of abuse? Are you blind to the fact that she was in excruciating pain and that she bore visible scars? Not one of you even made an effort to care!"
Once again, Chara becomes anxious. She could only speculate as to what the villagers would do to someone like Arceus, given their deep-seated fear of monsters. The disturbing visions of the villagers murdering him persist in her mind, so she simply shakes her head. "Dia, you are missing the point. They would never have left him or you alone, which is why I let them torture me. I just wanted to keep you all safe!"
Still terrified, Chara breaks down in tears.
“He was a mage who rescued us from the creatures! They intended to eradicate us by stealing our SOULs. A hero like him would not have done such a thing! We all had absolutely no reason to question him!" Avior pleads, hoping to reason with Arceus.
As he retreated a little further, Arceus's stare became even more intense. “Nobody should look up to him as a hero. The only monster around here is him.”
"Please, do not hurt me! Truly, I was unaware!” Avior cried desperately, and Arceus weighed his options before retreating. He could detect no deception from them. It seemed they truly hadn’t known that Chara was treated this badly.
"Arrrrh, fine." Dialga chirps more emphatically. "Dia know Arrurh srong."
As if taken aback by Arceus's decision to let them live, the villagers scrambled upright once more and dashed off. After seeing them depart, Arceus shifted his focus to Chara's former residence. Surely her mother might still have the answers he was seeking, he knew it. Going straight for the house, he disregarded the other villagers, who appeared confused about how to respond to this unbelievable act of kindness from a monster.
"But how are you aware of that..." Still in a state of panic, Chara says, "He is fighting an entire village of at least 500 people all by himself. With everyone's expertise and background in defeating monsters, how...?"
"Arrurh srong," Dia says with all the assurance of a small toddler.
"........But it still will not make a difference." In a low voice, Chara responds, recalling the tales of the human-monster war and how the humans came out on top in a matter of days with almost no human casualties. "Humans are too strong for monsters on their own. No amount of magic can stop us; we are just too Determined. It is my fault that Arceus will die!" As Chara's anxiety persists, she starts to cry.
Arceus approaches Chara's house at a leisurely pace, kicking the door open with his hooves. “Woman! Where have you gone? Please respond to me immediately, or else!!
"N-No! Just leave me alone!! I apologize!" Somewhere inside, Afora lets out a scream.
Glaring, Arceus charges a Hyper Beam, and then, with a white beam of light from his forehead, he destroys the living room door and most of the walls of the house.
With a crimson glow in Afora's eyes and a resolve to protect herself, Afora snatches a knife from a drawer in the kitchen and screams in terror. "I-I said, stay back! I am warning you!!"
Dialga chirps, "Arrurh no ronser," before standing up on two legs instead of four, wobbling but confident. Chara took note of his own determination to prove his point. "Arrurh, Stong! Dia too!"
Chara looks at Dialga in confusion. "H-how...? He and you are not humans... You are superior to them. Better than even I..."
Taking a step forward, Arceus shoots a glare at Afora, daring her to either throw the knife or use it to attack him. "Speak, lady! Why did you cause Chara so much pain?! Isn’t she your child, your daughter?! Why did you think it was okay to treat her that way?"
"Why is it important to you, anyway?! You are a monster! Lilith is not even your child!” With no justification for how they treated Chara, Afora cries out. "We had to instill discipline in her. Otherwise, when she grows up, she will be a weak leader! Everyone will push her around so… You wouldn’t even understand!”
Arceus's gaze becomes even more intense as his anger grows. THIS was their excuse?!
"No ronser. Crara groo." Dialga repeats, and Chara's eyes widen in response.
‘Me, good? Impossible…’ Chara thought sadly to herself after hearing that. “No….”
Arceus teleported and tackled Afora to the ground in her home, placing all of his weight on her chest until he heard the satisfying sound of bones breaking thus causing Afora to nearly drop the weapon.
When Afora let out a piercing scream, Arceus drew near enough to meet her face in order to meet her brown eyes and say, "You accuse me of being a monster, and yet you take part in such cruel acts against a child. You do not have the authority to categorize anyone in this way. Far less to claim the title of Chara's mother. No. You have ceased to be her mother. You no longer have the privilege of doing so!”
"Wh...what do you mean...!?" Under Arceus's weight, Afora finds it difficult to breathe, and she gasps in pain. The strain on Afora's internal organs and her compressed chest cavity was so great that she thought they might explode.
In desperation, Afora attempts to use her magic, tightening her grip on the kitchen knife before focusing all of her Determination magic into it. Arceus, noticing this, only proceeds to press even more weight onto Afora's chest causing her to cough up blood as she feels her lungs collapse on the sheer weight of the 706 pound, 10 foot tall llama-creature standing over her.
"I am asserting that you have forfeited your parental rights to Chara. From this day forward, I will take full responsibility of caring for and raising her, just as you were destined to!" Responding as if he were approaching a child who is completely deaf, Arceus keeps his words simple.
"What the fuck?! You c....can't do that!!" Afora coughs again, blood oozing from her mouth from the internal bleeding as Afora tries to get away.
"Oh yes, I can. For it has already been done." To avoid killing anyone else in the village, Arceus lets out a savage growl before launching another Judgement attack right into her face at point blank range. "You will face judgment for your crimes, because I will send you to a place where neither man nor even the Devil himself will ever hear you!!"
Afora tried to scream, but she disappeared in an instant. It took little time to rid the world of its vermin, such as Salenor and Afora. Arceus, or as the terrified sinners would come to know him: God Himself, had passed his divine judgement after all.
Soon after the Judgement attack touched down, Chara's home started to catch fire. Arceus waited patiently in the middle of the fire, hoping that the flames would consume Chara's terrible history to the point that nothing remained. He had also placed the house in a psychic barrier to prevent the flames from consuming the rest of the village.
As far as Arceus was concerned, Chara was now finally free of her past…
"I am not good..." Chara whispers, her tears streaming down her face. "I do my best to be, but no matter what I do, it is never good enough. I will always be a mistake in someone’s eyes….”
After the fire subsided, Arceus transformed into a grass type as his ring began to glow. The 18 plates materialized around him, and he restored grass growth where Chara's former home had been. Once that is completed, Arceus redirects his attention to the other villagers, transforming back into his normal form. He inquires about Afora's use of the word "Monsters," the events surrounding the war between humans and monsters, and its origins.
After that, the people give an account of the battle that occurred at least a decade ago. At its core, monsters and humans coexisted peacefully in the past. But a landslide killed the former village chief, Valin, in a horrific accident. But a monster had located Valin before a single human had. The former monster king, Exon Dreemurr, instead of aiding Valin, absorbed his soul.
When the people found out who killed Valin, they were so furious that they went to war and killed Exon as a form of revenge. The battle had been short-lived, but the monsters were imprisoned underground beneath Mt. Ebott behind an impenetrable barrier, all because of the valiant endeavors of the leading magicians of the human race: Avior, Rhalin, Odarin, Salenor, Zephior, Kahion, and Avius.
Before the barrier could be permanently destroyed, the humans explained that there were only two ways to break it: either another monster had to kill and absorb a human's soul, or a monster had to kill seven humans and absorb their souls.
"Crara groo." As Dialga and his brothers keep trying to lift Chara's spirits, he starts chirping more forcefully.
Chara was struggling to allow it to sink in. After all, who could suddenly accept themselves as "Good" after years of abuse?
"Crara groo!” Dialga was becoming increasingly forceful as he wished to convey his point. After all, Chara did assist and protect both he and his brothers despite being a child herself too, and it was completely her decision.
"Dia, I just can not accept it... For the longest time in my life, people have told me that I have done wrong; as a result, I simply cannot imagine myself as a "Good person." Eventually, Chara found it difficult to respond, and her arguments began to falter.
She was slowly finding it hard to argue back the more Dia insisted Chara was capable of being a good person too.
Arceus nodded and then apologized to the villagers, saying, "thank you for their time." He then slowly turned towards the mountain and floated toward the peak.
Arriving at the base of the mountain takes Arceus a couple of minutes. The morality of his impending actions was something he considered. Were the "Monsters" as terrible as people made them out to be? With a new ability switch, this time to a ghost type, Arceus made himself invisible. If he was to make a true judgment, he would need to see what he would unleash on the world if he broke the barrier that humans had worked so hard to create.
