I felt his lips on mine and barely had enough time to process him.
I don’t know why, but I kissed him back. I felt his arm snake around my waist and pull me closer.
I finally realised what I was doing. I quickly pulled back, eyes wide. Maverick looked embarrassed, like really embarrassed. Despite him being drunk, I think he realised what he’d done. I had no control over myself though, cause I leaned forward and rested my chin on his shoulder.
“I’ll see you next time, Maverick.” I whispered in his ear and walked to the exit of the club.
I think this plan to take down Zomji was a bad one for my poor, loveless heart.

“Twin! Where have you been?” Ezekiel sang as I walked in the front door, snatching my wig off myself.
“Missioning. What have you been doing?” I shot back at him, kicking my shoes off.
“Abusing Austin, why? Want a turn?” He threw a knife at me and I caught it.
“Don’t assassinate me. You wanna go on the dates with Maverick?” I questioned, attempting to raise an eyebrow but failing.
“Nah, I’m good.” He held his hands up in defeat and backed away. “But go check on Elijah and Austin.”
A scream came from the basement and I ran so fast to get down there. I’m pretty sure Elijah and Austin went to the same high-school in the U.S and we always had someone watching Elijah while he was interrogating Austin so he wouldn’t… Let all his anger out.
Elijah had his foot in between Austin’s shoulder blades, pulling his arms back and then using his other foot to slam his face into the floor.
“GET OFF HIM LI!” Ezekiel roared, lunging towards his friend.
“HE CALLED ME GODDAMN OBESE! THEN HE SAID I SHOULD GO KILL MYSELF!” Elijah yelled back, leaning down and pulling on Austin’s hair, before stomping on his bare back. Austin let out a pained scream and more tears fell down his bloody face. “I didn’t call you any of that!”
“That’s enough! Let’s just take him back.” I sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose. “Go tell Nova to sedate him.”
“Don’t touch me, scum!” Austin hissed, flailing around. Using the tie that had been left around his neck, Ezekiel tightened it, choking our hostage.
“Hmm, maybe we take you back in the morning and you can spend the rest of the night like this? How does that sound, darl?” I asked, leaning down to get on his level.
“Sounds better than having a needle stuck in me.” He smirked. Was he scared of needles?
Nova came down, needle in hand. I pinned Austin’s arm above his head and Ezekiel held his legs down.
“GET OFF ME!” He screamed, thrashing against our hold.
“Stop moving! Nova, give me the needle.” I was handed it almost instantly and I pushed the tip into Austin’s arm. I injected the liquid into him and he slowly calmed down.
I signalled for Ezekiel to let go of him. As soon as he did, he stopped fighting as much. Stopped waving his arms around like a mad man.
Austin closed his eyes and went limp. “Carry him out to the car.” I commanded, picking up his legs. “Take his arms, Ezekiel.”

We dropped him off on the front lawn of the address Maverick had given me when I dropped him off. I didn’t know if anyone would find him in the night, since it was nearly 1am in the morning.
I got back in the car when one of the lights in the front windows turned on.
“Drive, quick.” I ordered Ezekiel, watching as he accelerated. “And don’t crash my car.”
“I’ll see what I can do.” He beamed back at me, sharply turning a corner.
“I said don’t crash my car!” I hissed, smacking him on the shoulder.
“Why don’t you drive then?”
“Because I’m too lazy.”
“Then shut up, Neriah.” He drawled and sped the car up. I grabbed the handle above the door for dear life as he went way too fast.
“SLOW DOWN!” I screamed, genuinely concerned. “ARE YOU OKAY, EZZY?”
“Mhm.” He came to a very abrupt stop at a traffic light and I put my hands out in front of me to stop my face from colliding with the window.
“I’m driving next time.” I told him.
“But I’m an excellent driver,” He smirked as the light turned green.“Watch this!”
I let out a squeal as the car went from zero to a hundred in a few seconds.
“STOP THE DAMN CAR, EZEKIEL!”
“Nope! Not happening.” I didn’t see how Ezekiel and I were siblings, let alone twins.
After a long and incredibly frustrating drive, we arrived at the Piltatria headquarters and loaded our stuff back into my Jeep.
“Watch and learn how to drive.” I cracked my knuckles and got into the driver’s seat.
“I got my licence before you.” Ezekiel grumbled and sat in the passenger’s seat.
“Well I’ll show you real speed then.”
I was back in my own bed, comfortable, yet I could still hear my brother throwing up. I went a little too fast. Payback though.

I woke up to banging on my door. “What?”
“Cook for me.” He opened my door with a pouty look on his face.
“No, Ezekiel.”
“But my leg! It hurts sooo much!”
“That was like a month ago! I can make it really hurt, if you want.”
“Fine! Whaddya want? Pancakes?”
“Yes please.”
“No.” Ezekiel strutted out like a model on the runway.
The smell of burning toast abused my nose as I walked into the kitchen. “Weren’t you gonna cook pancakes?”
“I can’t cook, Neriah.” Ezekiel looked at me and rolled his eyes.
“I can, Ezekiel.”
“Then cook for me!”
“No.” I mimicked how he was earlier and strutted to the bathroom.
The smell of burnt toast was gone now, but it was replaced by the smell of chocolate.
“Is that for me?” I marched up to the counter and scooped up the jar of the spread.
“No. It’s for my gourmet breakfast.” My brother smiled, seemingly proud.
“Okay.” I grabbed a spoon from the cutlery draw and scooped some chocolate out. “Thanks.” I handed him the jar back.
