= SARAH POV =
I had a shower and dressed up. After setting up my things in the guest room a bit I left and headed back to my old apartment to get it cleaned up. I had called professional cleaners to come in but I still needed to make sure that there weren’t any personal items or documents lying around before the came in.
Just nice I was done doing a general sweep of the place just as the cleaners arrived. The cleaners take about 3 hours, so I went to a nearby café to read a book and have some coffee while I waited.
I was feeling so fidgety since it turned out that my plans had been foiled, so I pulled up my phone and checked to see if there were still blank tenancy agreement forms in my google drive folder.
Just nice there were a few, and so I filled up one digitally, changed a bunch of terms and conditions, and then googled up the nearest print shop.
Once I got the notification that the cleaning had been done. I officially called up the agent who came down to receive the keys to the apartment. The inspection went well and although they did say that there were some superficial damages, the agent said that the likelihood of me getting back at least half of my deposit was high, so I took it as a win, as the last place swallowed my deposit whole.
After I bide farewell to the agent for the last time, I took a train down to my new apartment, which – yes you could say I’m a stalker – was just a five minute walk away from Chris’ place. Opening the front door you can see that it was already fully furnished, with a lot of stuff, as I had basically already gutted my old place two weeks prior to all of this. I closed my door and flopped onto my bed for a bit a stared up at the ceiling. I could either try to set up the printer and print the tenancy agreement here, which might take ages, or I could drive down to the print store ( because I could finally access my car, I had parked it at the new apartment so that I didn’t have to waste petrol driving back and forth since the old place was so much further than my new place from Chris and my work place.
Both options sounded tedious, so I decided to just text Chris the tenancy agreement. I mean if this didn’t get through to her that I wanted this, I wanted her, then what would?
I waited a few moments, but the text remained one tick, so I decided to get up and go back to Chris’ place and maybe make dinner while I waited for her to come back and maybe we could talk about things.
I took the car keys from the shelf and went down to my car and drove over to Chris’ place. I had been out for quite some time so Chris should have been heading back soon as well. I didn’t really know what Chris and Jenny’s relationship was, but I figured since we had a lot of friends and work mates, the best I could guess was, colleague? The worst well… I didn’t really want to think about it.
I had Chris’s spare key so after I parked the car and went up, I let myself into Chris’ apartment and peeked around for Chris.
To my horror, not only did I see Chris…..I saw another woman. Was that Jenny, the one Chris said she was going to meet up with?
Chris’ bedroom door was slightly ajar, and I could see clothes thrown everywhere. I bit my lip. Why did things never go the way I planned? Why was it so hard to get through to her, what was I doing wrong?
I backed away, quietly returned to the guest room and closed the door. This was stupid. I knew Chris had an active sex life. We had been friends for ten over years. We literally shared a dorm room in college. She would do it with almost every girl who caught her eye. Just not me. They say, if everyone else is ok with it, then maybe one should look at oneself and recognise that I am the problem. So in this case, I am the problem, she is just not attracted to me.
Anyway, it was a dumb idea I had while I was drunk. I should have told her it was all a lie, a prank, and then we would have had a good laugh about it…and then maybe kiss…or not... probably not.
I quietly opened my suitcase and dumped all my stuff that I had unpacked into it. In my mind, it was all fun and games and I was hoped that I would somehow seduced my way into a relationship that started out as friends with benefits… but this was not a romcom, and that day was not today…in fact at this point, it was not, any day I had to admit that to myself.
I zipped up the luggage and slowly opened the door. I took a quick glance at the door of Chris’ room. I could hear them. Jenny or whoever that woman was, was really getting into it….I had to get out of here. This was stupid.
I unlocked the door and dragged myself and my suitcase out of Chris’ house and out of her life.
