Massimo is dead.
There was no doubt in my mind that my men could handle it. They did a great job of killing him and taking care of the girls like I knew they would. I just wish that I could have been the one to kill him. I’m sure I would have enjoyed it. But either Vincent or Mar got that pleasure. Another one of those despicable humans is dead, and there’s already another one lined up. I wonder if they think about what’s happening to them.
I don’t think so.
I believe they all just see it as getting rid of a threat. Every one of those greedy bastards wants to be the last man standing. Oh, I will surely grant that wish… I’ll just kill him after. It’ll take time, of course. Especially with my own personal mission to find out who’s after Lennox, but I won’t stop. I might take a pause, let them breathe a little but they won’t stop hiring me. I won’t stop killing them. You can always trust the fact that all of them want each other dead, and yet they hold parties and drink whiskey from the same bottle.
“We’re here.” My driver announces, rolling up onto the curb, “I’ll pick you up later, sir.”
I glance at Cambridge’s building outside my window. The thing is huge. Lennox and Holly were right yesterday. I hadn’t paid much attention to the building, but it is really the tallest one around here. Something I’m sure Lennox is proud of. I hate to even admit that. His head is already big enough as it is. I don’t think that he would easily be in danger here. I’m sure there is a lot more worse things to fear.
I get out of the car, and he drives off. I miss my car already, but Lennox needs it more than I do. Someone or something is coming. It’s only a matter of time before that person strikes again and when he does, I want to make sure that we are prepared. Lennox can’t die. Not on my watch.
Everyone is glancing at me as I pass by, whispering. I don’t know if they know who I am, but they would quickly learn. Making my way to the private elevator, it’ll take me straight to where I need to go. They really should do something about this terrible elevator music. The elevator opens, and I stroll onto the floor without a care in the world. I can see my men situated around the building, as quiet as can be. They look out of place in a room full of brightly coloured dresses and suits. Holly and Eugene must have thoroughly gone through everything and made sure my men were left alone.
I acknowledge them with a nod as they greet me.
When I reach Lennox’s office, I can smell coffee everywhere. Lennox walks towards me with a big smile on his face and a cup of coffee. I hate to admit it, but I almost curl my lips into a smile. He can be so annoying, but also be really adorable. I won’t admit that to him though because I know I would end up regretting it a lot. I don’t want him to know what I’m thinking. It’s better this way.
“I made it just the way you like it.” He tells me, handing me the cup, “I hope you enjoy this one.”
“How do you know how I like it?” I question him, raising an eyebrow as I look down at it, seeing how it is how I would normally make it, “whip cream?”
“Holly told me.” Is his response, a small smile flitting on his face like he had just won some kind of lottery.
Holly? Why on Earth would Holly tell him something like that? We’re not friends. We are on a mission. Once we are done here, we leave. I guess I’ll have to have a talk with her about not telling Lennox my personal business. I glance at the steamy coffee in his hands. My mouth salivates without my control. Damn it. Lennox raises an eyebrow at me, probably wondering what I’m going to do. Will I drink it?
Fine, I’ll drink it.
I take a sip from the glass, wondering if he might try to poison me but I doubt he would have the balls to do it if I’m being honest. It tastes really good, and I have to decide that it has to be that fancy shit. Hmm, I wonder what I’ll do next with it. I don’t know if it is a good idea to reveal the truth to him, he would make me regret it.
“The coffee machine is right there.” He points it out even though I had already noticed it, “I got it yesterday. Apparently, it is supposed to be one of the best coffee makers out there. Do you think it is?”
“I’ve had better.” I shrug, taking another sip.
Lies.
My empty cup begs to differ. I glance at Lennox, hoping that he doesn’t notice, and he smiles a beautiful smile. I swear my heart almost skips a beat, feeling really weird in this moment. What is he doing? Why did my heart do that? I don’t like this. Thankfully, he walks away from me before I do something.
“I’ll go write them a nice review.” He murmurs, sitting down in his seat.
Of course, he would. Why wouldn’t he? My phone rings, and I take it out, wondering who in the world would be calling me. I frown at the caller ID. It is Martha, our housekeeper. This is not a good sign.
“What’s wrong?” I immediately ask her, “is everything okay? Is mom, okay? What about Liam?”
Martha rarely calls me. She only calls me when something is wrong at home. I have always given her orders to call me, not mom. Mom gets worried easily even if it is nothing. I know it is because of this lifestyle but it can be a bit annoying at times. And Liam, he might not be my biological brother, but I look out for him, and I make sure that he is safe. I don’t dare let anything happen to him when I owe dad so much.
“Liam hasn’t been home in two days.” She immediately tells me, and my whole body becomes alert.
I stand back up, ready to go to war. What does she mean by that? Why didn’t she call me sooner? Where the hell is my brother?
“I’ve been trying to reach him, but I haven’t been able to.” She continues without missing another beat.
“Where’s mom?” I ask her, needing to get to the bottom of this, “is she okay?”
Lennox is beside me now. Not sure why. I can see the worry on his face, his eyebrows etched together slightly. I don’t know what to say to him, feeling really weird. Why is he getting in my personal space? Why is he bothering me? I don’t have time for him right now.
“She went on a three-day trip with her friends.” Martha replies, not even trying to hide it because she knows that I’m straight forward and business-like, “she will be back today.”
Mom left me messages, but I have yet to read them. I am not even aware that she had been out of town. I need to do better, but first I need to find Liam. He is my priority. If anything happens to him, I don’t believe that I would be able to live with myself. Mom would never forgive me for it either.
“I’m afraid she will worry if Liam isn’t here after she gets home.” Martha continues, sighing softly, “I apologize for disturbing you. I didn’t want to have to but now that he hasn’t been home, I fear that something must have happened, or he is getting himself into trouble.”
“No, you did great, Martha.” I assure her, knowing that I’m going to have to do everything in my power to get to Liam, “thank you for letting me know.”
I cut the call, starting to walk towards the door, but Lennox pulls me back. I look down immediately, seeing how his hand is latched on my arm. I stare at him, wondering if he is really trying to test my patience right now. I don’t have time for this. I might end up really hurting him if he doesn’t back off.
“Let go. I’ll get Holly to come guard you.” I mutter as I try to shrug him off, but he won’t budge.
I guess he might have some strength in that body of his.
“I didn’t mean to eavesdrop- “ He starts, making me stiffen immediately.
“Yet, you did.” I cut him off.
He smiles at me, “you don’t know where this Liam is. I’m sure he’s important to you. How do you plan on finding him?”
I know what I’m doing. I’m going to check out some of his friends and get my guys on it, but I don’t tell him this. It is none of his damn business. It pisses me off that he had even eavesdropped the way that he did. I don’t know why he has managed to worm his way into my life like this.
“Let go, Lennox.” I warn him, really tempted to punch him.
He sighs, shaking his head at me now, “I’m sure you have a plan. I’m just saying there might be a faster, more efficient way of finding him.”
I’m a little curious now, I have to admit, “go on.”
He lets go of my arm, “Gene can find him anywhere. All you have to do is give us a picture or a very good description of him.”
Is it really that simple? I can do that. I nod to let him know I’m in.
“Come, let’s go.” He continues, motioning me to follow him.
It’s not long before we reach Eugene’s computer room. This place is stacked with computers. How many computers does one man need? I find Holly sitting next to him, looking at the computers with a look of awe on her face. Well, she’s definitely been busy. She smiles when she sees me. I ignore her and hand my phone to Lennox with Liam’s picture on it. I have a lot of photos on my phone. I used to enjoy taking them back then. They were like a reminder that I have a family. A very good one, but after dad’s death, I stopped taking them.
I also stopped going home often.
“Find out where he is.” Lennox instructs Eugene, not bothering to hold back, “this is Silas’ brother.”
Eugene takes the phone and nods. Holly stares at it and her smile quickly disappears. I know what she is thinking almost immediately. It is precisely what came to mind when it did for me.
“Is Liam, okay?” She asks softly, “what is going on?”
“He’s missing.” I tell her, looking away.
Worry clouds her face.
“We will find him.” I assure her, knowing that she has a soft spot for him, “I’m sure that he is just messing around once again. You know how he is when he wants my attention.”
“Just did!” Eugene excitedly announces as he hands me back my phone, “his location is on your phone now.”
I nod, wondering how he did it so quickly, “thanks.”
Eugene gapes at my words. What does this man think I am? I have manners, killing hasn’t taken them away from me. I wouldn’t consider myself someone that would just be rude to anyone, even though I do like giving Lennox a piece of my mind when he is being an idiot.
Holly stands up, immediately on alert, “I’ll come with you.”
“I want to come, too.” Lennox agrees, going to follow me.
I ignore him.
“Holly, you’re staying. Protect Lennox.” I order her, knowing that they won’t challenge me on this.
She nods hesitantly at my words.
“I’ll be back soon.” I start to walk out, but then I remember I don’t have a car, “where’s the car keys?”
Lennox pulls it out of his pocket and hands it over to me. I get out of there as quickly as I can and head to the location on my phone. My heart is pounding hard in my chest, and I know that I have to get to Liam to just make sure he is okay. Who knows what kind of trouble he has gotten himself into.
Honestly, I feel like a really shitty brother.
