Leanna had long since loved the clothing of Couture Féerique, but in her mad attempt to romance Charles, had started requesting ugly and ridiculous dresses. None of them fit her proper, and none of them looked good. Leanna felt ashamed for insulting Madam Élysée with her past orders, and had given away every last horrid piece. She went to town in one of the original works she had ordered at the start of her marriage, and had brought a gift as compensation for her stupidity.
Charles had left for a business trip early this morning, so Leanna only had a few days to make drastic changes before yet another temper tantrum. She and Delaney entered the boutique, and Madam Élysée immediately looked up and exclaimed with delight. "My dear! How lovely to see you. Come, let me look at you! You look so much healthier, like a weight is taken off your shoulders. Have you come to order a dress? Please sit and have some tea, only the finest for you."
Madam Élysée motioned to her aides, and they hurried to get some refreshments ready, while leading Leanna to the noble section of the boutique. While she did not readily discriminated, Madam Élysée understood nobles better than most. Leanna settled onto her favorite couch and gazed fondly at her. Madam Élysée had always treated Leanna so kindly, Leanna saw her as her own personal fairy godmother.
"These present are for you, Éli, as a token of my gratitude for your unwavering kindness, and to repent for my stupidity of the past few years." Delaney laid the boxes on a nearby table and Élysée couldn't help but gasp softly. There were gems that were not easy to get ones hands on, piled open each other, as though begging to be worked with. "B-but Leanna, wherever could you have gotten this?"
Leanna smiled and simply responded, "My husband wont miss them, and neither will his mistress." Élysée gasped again, and then gave her a look. "So he has a proper mistress now, not just an entertainer?" Leanna nodded solemnly, and then turned her head to the design book one of the attendants had brought out with the refreshments. Flipping through, Leanna was deeply pleased with the beautiful dresses Eli had created.
Her gaze hovered over a stunning azure dress, its design based on a stola, but modified to look like something a goddess would wear. The fabric hung in folds, with a fitted waist line, and had draping sleeves. The fabric looked like the ocean itself, glittering and shimmering, mesmerizing everyone in the room. Leana asked Éli if she had an example to look at, and she eagerly went into the back and brought out the prototype she was working on, it was almost finished, and Leanna asked to try it on.
Éli's eyes lit up, as she had designed this dress around Leanna, so the measurements were as close as possible. Leanna was joyous that she was still designing dresses for her, and told her about how she had cleaned out her closet, and slipped into the dress, finally feeling another piece of her soul return. The girls chatted happily and enjoyed the tea and biscuits, trying on dress after dress.
Several hours later, Madam Élysée had finished the alterations on the dress, and Delaney had helped style Leanna's hair. Leanna hugged her fairy godmother, and confidently strode out, ready to overcome any obstacles thrown in her path. The pair approached the jailhouse, and Leanna took a deep breath, praying to whatever deities were listening for strength. She didn't care who. It was time to turn the tide on Charles, and there was one woman who was the perfect ammunition.
The jail cell Keaia sat in was dark and dreary, but at least it was clean. As Keaia squirmed on the small cot in the corner of the room, her anxiety grew. Charles had left for a several day business trip this morning, and had reminded her to behave. "You are not the Duchess yet. Don't cause trouble. I love you my sweet." His words rang in her ears as she remembered her shameless words and actions.
Charles couldn't swoop in to save her, and Duchess Leanna had ordered that the incident was hushed. Keaia sighed, pondering her life's choices. She had nerve openly approached Charles, wary of a married man, but Charles had found her, like a fly finds honey. Keaia had originally thought that she was the heroine, saving Charles from his wicked no good wife. Keaia would banish the villainess, gain the love of the male lead, and the people of the duchy would celebrate her.
Charles had whispered sweet nothings into her ears for a whole year, and had fun in the duke's mansion among other places. She had never anticipated the unease she felt when she first saw Duchess Leanna. Keaia expected a rich looking haughty and arrogant woman who laughed like the villainesses in her storybooks. Duchess Leanna only exuded an air of grace and elegance. Even though she looked tired, her beautiful face only showed a woman who knew kindness, not cruelty. Her voice was almost mesmerizing.
The first time she greeted Keaia, Duchess Leanna never once looked at her like an insect or something filthy, only with pity and a hint of understanding. Everything she knew was turned upside down. While Charles had always been sweet to her, a true gentleman or so she thought, her stomach churned when she heard about the fight. Keaia tried her best to not doubt Charles, and repeated to herself how much she loved him.
She remembered the sharp look on his face when she accidentally slipped up while talking to him, and the way he held her wrist or shoulders a little too tightly at times. The sudden sound of keys jingling jolted her back to the present moment as Duchess Leanna, clothed in a gorgeous blue dress that made her look almost like a goddess. Her hair draped beautifully down, and her golden hair wreath made Keaia's mouth gape a bit in shock.
She quickly composed herself as Duchess Leanna approached the jailcell, and motioned to the jailkeeper. Leanna entered the cell and strode forward, the light from the window behind giving her a halo. Keaia couldn't find the words to speak as Leanna stood in front of her, cupped her face in her hands, and started deep in Keaia's eyes. "If you help me, I can give you a radiant and joyful life. If you choose to stick with Charles, then get ready to feel the true power of a tsunami."
Keaia felt the gut reaction in her stomach scream to accept; as she nodded, Leanna smiled, and Keaia felt anxious as she realized war had begun. Duchess Leanna motioned to the jailkeeper, and he nodded. Keaia silently followed Leanna out of the jailhouse, and they walked until arriving at Leanna's carriage. Keaia hesitated at first, but steeled her nerves, and entered, ready to serve Leanna to the best of her ability. Leanna motioned for Delaney to enter, and once the three were comfortably inside, she began "Now Keaia, you must do exactly as I say, and everything will end well for you. To start I want you to..."
