They held each other tight as fire surrounded them, flames flickered so bright. They could feel the heat, it felt like a big hug. As the flames reached them, they stared into each other's eyes, satisfied with their outcome. They tried their best but life is unfair. This was their destiny to be burned away and perish like others. The girl leaned in “a kiss goodbye” she spoke, as gentle warm lips embraced his own. He closed his eyes and let the flames consume him.
BEEP BEEP sounds of machines echoed as a boy laid in a hospital bed. Next to him sits a woman, unkempt short dark wavy hair, green eyes and wearing a pair of jeans and white t-shirt. “Jasper I know I haven't been the best sister and wasn’t always there for you but, I'm here now I’m pleading with you. Please wake up!” She examined his face for the hundredth time. She memorized every little detail, as if forgetting any little thing will erase his existence. She can't remember how many times she has come to see him, all she knows is that it's been two years since he was found with a girl on the edge of Ground Zero. Creak, the door swung open with ease and an older man in a detective uniform walked in. “Officer Bar?” The woman spoke, startled from his presence.
“Seven years ago Gally city disappeared, the only darn thing left was a hole. Many scientists theorized what had happened to the city. Some thought the city exploded, others thought an earthquake. Until scientists finally decided to measure the darn thing. Somehow they got nine hundred and eighty-four feet, isn't that crazy? Can anybody really last five years in a gosh darn hole for that long? Somehow I was proved wrong by your brother, Zoey.” He eyed her like she was a criminal. Then he closed the door and advanced towards her. “When will the boy be awake?” He spat towards her “Soon.” She was annoyed. Ever since her brother was found, he's been investigated. She didn't understand why they kept treating him like an alien, “You would think people would be happy to know there might be people still alive down there.”
She muttered, he sighed “look Zoey Your brother hasn't aged since we found him, I just need to know what in tarnation is going on!” Zoey was tired. How many times is she going to hear the same speech? “Instead of bothering me, why can't you go back to Ground Zero and find out or even talk to the girl!” Zoey huffed. She was fed up with Officer Bar and just wanted to slap him but she shouldn’t. Just an hour and he’ll leave! She thought, I don't know if I'm gonna be able to hold it. I'm always about to burst by the end of it! She sighed. ”Well they wont let me see the girl, she's still in the ICU so she's useless!” a nurse entered the room
“Good afternoon you two! Everytime I come in you two are fighting.” The nurse laughed, Zoey was happy to see Nurse…. Jasmine? For some reason her name tag was always different. Maybe she was just a klutz? She pondered, all the nurses had name tags because other hospitals would always lend theirs for Cherry Hospital. Sweet name, sweet staff! she giggled to herself, “Oh lookie here it’s jasmine now?” Officer Bar said teasingly, Nurse Jasmine closed the door softly, she walked over giggling. “Oh? I guess it is now, these tags are so annoying! Somehow I always put the wrong one on, I don't know how?” Sweetly eyeing the two, “I'm just here to check on your brother's condition. Doctor Creed said he should be awake soon.” She smiled sweetly, Zoey was surprised by this news. It felt like a weight lifted off her shoulders, but Officer Bar Couldn't really care less! He just needed the boys' story then it's to the Paid vacation to Hawaii! He begged and pleaded, If they are going to force this case on him, he wants to go to Hawaii, Surprisingly they said sure! “That's great!” He Abnormal Shouted, sounding ecstatic. Zoey eyed him odd, He usually didn't care before she could figure out what he was up to, suddenly he immediately walked over and took Nurse Jasmine’s hand “Missy would you like to go to dinner after your shift?” Trying to sound seducing but with a southern accent ruining it, just a bit. “Can't, so sorry my fathers in town and we got reservations for a new restaurant that opened up.” “You reckon I could take you out another time?” She laughed, “Maybe it depends on the day.”
Zoey felt awkward. She never could stand older people flirting, if that's what you call what's happening in front of her. Talking like this had always given her this pinging pain in her heart, It kept reminding her of her parents, Her and her father arguing over something silly, then her mother walking in with her blinding smile. That smile always made her father melt, all that was missing, her brother, who would always be laughing and watching everything happen as if he was watching a sitcom. Her shoulders started to slump, she was trying her best to stay positive but she just couldn't. She lost her parents, she didn't want to lose her brother too! Officer Bar signaled Nurse Jasmine and both left the room. “How's the girl, is her condition any better?” He asked “Only a little, her body is still pretty damaged. Most of her wounds healed but left some nasty scars.” He sighed “You reckon she’ll live?” “Well, I can't say but I know she’s been fighting!” She proudly said.
Zoey sighed “I still wonder who that girl was?” As she turned her head to look at her brother. She noticed two green big round eyes staring back at her and they spoke the words “Rosa” is it the girl's name? She filed that name in her memory for later, jumping out of her seat almost falling,”CALL THE DOCTOR!” Then fumbled out of her seat and grabbed her brother's hand, as Nurse Jasmine could be heard running down the hall, Then Officer Bar moved inside taking a window seat while he watched the staff rush in and out.
Two hours later check ups and examinations were over, She knew Jasper was confused. He kept looking around like he lost something. The whole time the only words he ever spoke was “Rosa” but everybody ignored it. The doctors told him he was in a coma for two years, but he was missing for five, yet he didn't age, hearing those words “Where is Rosa!” he shouted and the doctor gave a worried look “Sorry we don't know who that is.” Nurse Jasmine chimed in “She's safe, but we cannot let you see her yet” Zoey noticed Jasper calmed down a little and wondered who Rosa was to him? Nurse Jasmine looked him straight in the eyes. “I promise you, If you answer all the questions the Officer gives you, we'll let you see her.” He agreed to her proposal. Jasper didn't think being there for a whole week would do anything to him, but he hoped Rosa was okay. When he first looked at his sister he was shocked, she reminded him of his mother. Once searching his parents room for a phone charger he had seen an old photo of his parents as young adults, his father was kissing his mother and his mother was laughing. “How are you feeling?” “Fine,” He grunted, it felt like the thousandth time his sister had asked him, She held tight to his hand, afraid if she let go he would disappear. “Alright, I gave y'all your family reunion now I reckon you tell me what happened.” Officer Bar was in no mood to wait. He wanted to know what had happened, “What y’all opinions of me doesn't amount to a hill of beans, tell me what happened?” Zoey was shocked, she knew he was rude but didn't think he would bother a person who literally woke up two hours ago “Officer Bar Jasper just woke up!” She yelled, “Hush up, now it's not up to you Darling, it's up to your brother.” He looked at Jasper for an answer. Jasper was nervous, he didn't know what to say or do he was still in shock about how long he was gone, between what it felt and what it really was. He wanted to believe it was all a dream but he knew it wasn't. Then he sat up, straightening his posture and spoke “Ill ... I'll talk but right after I demand to see Rosa!” He hoped he came across confident, “well, I'll be damned the boy spoke!” Zoey piped up “you sure? You should be resting!” “It's fine, the sooner I tell this, the sooner I’ll see Rosa!” He insisted. Who was Rosa to him and why does he keep bringing her up? “Butter my butt and call me a biscuit, it's a deal!”
