Looking around the sewer home, the woman couldn't help but be inquisitive. "Uhm... Why's that? Aren't there far better places to live than in the sewers?"
Shrugging, Tessa's eyes briefly met hers giving a wry smile before going back to the floor as her face took on a dull expression. "I guess?" Shrugging again, she looked back up at her wearing a weak smile. "But it doesn't really matter to me so much where I live so long as I can be left alone. So here works out for me being away from everyone since nobody really comes down here."
The woman gave Tessa an incredulous look. "I mean...I came down here, didn't I?" Raising her hand on top of her head. She immediately winced as her fingers came to touch across the wound.
"Hey!" Tessa's hands came up and pulled the hand back down to the other woman's lap. "Don't scratch at it like that or the bindings will break."
With an embarrassed look, the woman's ears perked up as Tessa drew her hand back down. "S-sorry..."
Sighing, Tessa held her hand there for a moment. Not trusting her enough not to immediately raise her hand up to try and scratch at it again. "Adishesha...You aren't wrong. Yes, you came down here for some reason I can’t begin to fathom…but you are also the first person I have ever seen down here in the sewers aside from myself."
That same quizzical look she had on her face a moment ago came back across the woman's face. "Huh. That seems a little strange, you would think more people would come down here for you know...maintenance or something."
Blinking repeatedly, Tessa's eyes became fixed on her as she too began to wonder why that might be. "Ya know...I never really thought about that. I guess it is a little strange that you're the first one I've ever seen. Now you've got me wondering and a little concerned just why that is."
While her ears flicked about, the woman tilted her head curiously. "Enough so to reconsider living down here in the sewers and maybe find one of those artifacts to defend yourself?"
Raising her eyebrows, Tessa waved a hand dismissively. "Psh! I wouldn't go that far. Besides, it's not like you have to worry about it being dangerous potentially down here."
Lifting her head, the woman blinked curiously. "Oh? How come?"
A cheeky grin grew across Tessa’s face as she spoke. "Well, cause I will be taking you top side soon enough to see if we can't find you some help fixing your memory. And maybe if we are lucky find you a healer for your head wound while we are at it."
Nodding faintly, the woman's hand rose back towards her head nervously. She stopped her hand mid air seeing the glare from Tessa. "Ah, yeah…I guess that makes sense. Are we going to be going up topside now then?"
Tessa reached up, tapping at the woman's nose as she had moved to stand up. "Nope, you aren't going anywhere today. You are going to stay right where you are. I am not going to let you risk walking around when you might have a concussion."
Going cross eyed, the woman huffed. There was a lost look held within her eyes that was hard to miss as her ears wilted. "Well…if I am stuck here for the day is it alright if I ask you some other questions Tessa? "
Nodding, Tessa gave her a reassuring smile. "Mmhmm! We will go over all the things you want to know soon enough…But we still need to figure out a name to call you first. After that you can ask about anything you like alright?"
The woman's cheeks partially puffed up and her ears sprung upwards. "Yeah, I guess that could be awkward for us to keep talking if you aren’t sure how to address me huh?"
Snickering, Tessa gave her a grin. "Oh you have no idea just how comfortable I normally am at not really caring about people or calling them by their names.”
Sadness mixed with concern filled the woman’s eyes as she stared at Tessa. She looked unsure how to respond to what was just said.
Seeing the concerned look on the woman’s face, Tessa hastily spoke up once more. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to come across as rude. I’ve just had a lot of bad experiences with people.” Sighing, she looked up at the ceiling wondering why she was being so mindful of her feelings.
Raising a hand to touch Tessa’s shoulder, the woman gave her a reassuring, caring look. “It’s okay.”
As Tessa’s eyes once more fell back upon the woman, the inquisitive look had come back across her face. She gave the woman a weak smile without really knowing why. “I just think that talking about names might help jog your memory ya know?”
Nodding faintly, the woman wrapped her arms around her legs. “I guess that does make sense.”
Raising a hand, Tessa twirled a finger in the air before pointing at the woman. “Mmhmm! Do you have any ideas of what you might want to go by in the meantime then?"
Shrugging, she laid back against the pillows deep in thought. "Nope, not a single one. Besides, if it's meant to be something to try and make me remember my name isn't it better if you say names and I try and figure out what feels familiar to me?"
Tilting her head, Tessa's own ears began to wilt. "You know, you are going to have to stop making sense at some point right?"
Flicking her ears about wildly, the woman gave Tessa a cheeky smile of her own that immediately made her groan as it pulled on her tender scalp. "I mean, I might have a head injury and not even remember my own name but that doesn't mean I have to stop making sense."
Squinting at her, Tessa let out a loud huff. "Sure it does!” Gesturing with her hand, she held it out towards the woman. “But let's get back onto the original subject please!"
The woman nodded. "Okay, what is your first idea?"
"How does Telesandra sound for a name to use?"
"Hmm, no. That doesn't really feel me."
"Sarah?"
"Nah."
"Delain?"
"Not quite, but it is pretty. Are you really sure you think this will help?"
"Maybe, but there's no reason not to try right? How about Wyria?"
"I guess, and I do like that but it doesn't feel me. We really don't have to do this you know."
"We don't, but it helps pass the time while we let you rest just the same. Plus I’m kind of invested in it at this point."
“If you say so!” The conversation about naming her went on for hours. The sun had gone down and the room came to be covered in moonlight in its place.
While Tessa had been continually shot down on the names she was suggesting, she wasn’t yet ready to give up. Her finger idly rubbed along the rim of an empty bottle she had grabbed a hold of at some point.
Looking down at the bottle, she decided on a whim with how bubbly the woman was despite the situation she was in that she would try seeing if she might like the word Dusa used for fizzy drinks at her bar for a name. "Hmm, well how about Effervense or like, Effy or Effers for short?"
“Hmm.” Her ears flicking wildly, the woman looked as if she was actually contemplating a name seriously for the first time throughout the entire exercise. "That doesn't sound too bad. Effy...Effervense, I am not sure if it really feels familiar or not but...I kinda like it, so why not?"
Blowing out a loud sigh of relief, Tessa slunk against the wall beside the pillows. "Effy it is then."
Raising a hand to her head, Effy gave Tessa a not quite frightened but worried glance as she got that look of “Don’t touch it” From her. "Not going to lie, I am kind of glad that's settled."
Setting the bottle down onto the floor, Tessa rolled it away with a finger. “Me too.”
With a confused look in her eyes, Effy turned towards Tessa. "But...w-what do I do now?"
"Huh? What do you mean?" Turning her head towards Effy, Tessa gave her a curious look.
Looking a little uneasy, Effy raised her hands around her arms hugging herself. "W-well, it's just...I really don't remember anything. I mean s-sure, I can talk. But I don't know where we are, what the dangers are, where I came from a-and I j-just…don't know what to d-do."
Even if she was uncomfortable being around others, Tessa knew what she had always wanted when she felt like Effy felt now. That awkward feeling of being alone, lost and for herself without hope for the future.
Tessa awkwardly moved in closer. As non threatening and as slowly as possible, she slid her arms around Effy hugging her tightly. "Sometimes there is no easy answer for that even if you did have your memories still. I know I don't have any grandiose plans for the future, nor do I really know what the hell I am doing day to day either…"
As Effy’s eyes gazed into Tessa’s, they looked lost. She gave her a weak smile before her emotions got the better of her once more overwhelming her as she cried ugly tears burrowing her face into her chest.
Tessa felt overwhelmed with what was going on as she let Effy continue to cry against her chest. She was far away from her comfort zone and with all of this happening in her home she had nowhere to escape to even if she had wanted to.
Feeling the sobs begin to fade, Tessa slid back away from her and put her hands onto both of Effy's shoulders. "While I may not know who you are, or what kind of situation you might have been in prior to losing your memory…I do know that you'll be okay. You won’t be alone in this journey and there will be people to help you along the way until you find your own two feet again."
Sniffling as the tears kept running down her cheeks, Effy's eyes had lost the energy they had before as her face took on a dull, tormented expression. "H-how can you be s-so sure? None of this makes s-sense!"
Tessa's ears wilted as she let out a sigh. "Life rarely does.” Pulling her hands away from Effy’s shoulders she stood up and did her best attempt at giving Effy a reassuring smile. “I will explain tomorrow why I’m sure you’ll be fine. As for the rest? You will just have to wait and see."
Pouting, Effy’s ears wilted. “That's not fair…”
“Didn’t I just get done saying life isn’t fair?” Raising her eyebrows, Tessa’s gaze parted from Effy’s to stare up at the moon overhead. "I think enough time has passed that you should be able to try and sleep without worry of a concussion. How about you do that, and I will go see if I can't find anything that might tell me why you were down here.” She peered back over her shoulder a little worried at not hearing a response. “Okay?"
Effy gave a little nod, her arms never leaving her shoulders. "Y-you won't be gone too long will you? I-it’s kinda scary being alone in some new place like this…"
Something about the uncertainty she saw in Effy's eyes made her pause and pull one of the loose blankets on the floor up over her. "No, I won't be long. I am just going back to check around the area where I found you."
Finishing tucking her in, Tessa got up moving towards the entrance that began to shimmer once more as she touched it. "Maybe if we are lucky, you dropped something there that will help us figure out who you are, and why you were down in the sewers to begin with."
When Tessa turned around and looked back over her shoulder one last time, she was met by an innocent and lost look within the woman's eyes that was hard to ignore as Effy spoke. "J-just be careful, who knows what's out there."
Grinning, Tessa shot her a cheeky smile. "Oh I know at least one thing that will be out there…me!” Letting out a soft chuckle, she raised her eyebrows and had an amused tone to her voice. “Now go to sleep, Effy. I will be right back, I promise." She ducked out under the fabric that concealed her home before Effy could respond.
