[The Flash Report]
[War in Lightning Slit: Eny advances quickly and seems to be slowly winning]
The Flash Report is a newspaper created by the dwarves in Lightning Slit. In this war, they are bringing information before any newspaper.
[Eny's advancing troops seem to be slowly gaining territory. This past week, Zakov's army lost an important weapons warehouse, which was detonated with fire magic fired by several terrorist mages.]
Terrorist Mages? I hadn't known that word before. Although it doesn't seem to be anything complex.
The article continues to provide information and details about the situation.
The news says that several adventurers with gold badges went there to remove the civilians.
The number of deaths and victims appears to be uncertain, mainly because the illegal area is difficult to enter and operate freely in.
The rest of the newspaper told some stories and curiosities, but nothing interesting.
A month later, I strangely wake up earlier than usual.
I let out a long yawn, my eyes are still blurry.
Getting up from bed and walking to the bathroom, I wash my face and brush my teeth.
Something funny about this world is that there is no such thing as toothpaste, so we use medicinal herbs.
I have no idea if they help with mouth cleaning, and I'm still a little too sleepy to think about it...
After brushing my teeth, I go to the living room and find Richard coming out of the house with a bamboo fishing rod.
"Look who's already awake." He says.
"Are you going fishing?"
"Yes. Do you want to come with me?" My father asks.
Um, I'm not doing anything anyway. I don't think it would hurt.
"Maybe..." I reply in a sleepy voice.
"Then change your clothes and come outside. I'll be waiting for you!" Richard responds.
Going to my room, I open the wardrobe. There aren't many options to wear, but I think I can find something interesting.
I better wear pants, there must be a lot of mosquitoes near rivers. A long-sleeved blouse would also be great. Boots maybe? I don't know if there are snakes, but I should be careful.
With my chosen clothes, I get dressed and leave the house.
I wear a long-sleeved black blouse and sweatpants. On my feet, I put boots that go up to my shins. I think this way the mosquitoes won't eat me alive...
After Richard and I left the house, we headed towards the forest where William and I trained.
It's a bit unexpected to think that Richard fishes in the same place we train. That's a little comforting to know.
The weather is a little mild. Even though it's summer, the temperature is pleasant. The sky is cloudy, and it is quite windy.
But you never know what the weather will be like in a few hours. Summer is a very strange season. The day can start cloudy and then become completely sunny, and the opposite can also happen.
We enter the forest, I just follow my father, who leads the way.
The deeper we go into the forest, the lower the temperature gets.
Come to think of it, autumn will start next month, so the temperature is getting milder.
After walking for a while, passing through places I had never been before, I start to hear the sound of water moving.
And then the forest opens up, and a riverbed passes by, going from West to East.
The terrain is a bit steep, so it's best not to get too close.
Richard then sits down and starts digging in the dirt.
"What are you doing, dad?" I ask without understanding.
"To fish, you need to have bait, right?" He asks a rhetorical question. "I'm looking for worms. The fish love them." He adds.
Ok, I understand.
I've never had any experience with fishing, so this is all new to me.
In fact, I think I can help find worms with my mana radar.
Activating my mana radar, I target the mana detection below ground.
Earthworms shouldn't be too far down, I think only a few centimeters are needed...
Hmm... Nothing here... Not here...
Wow, those little things really know how to hide, huh?
It looks like I'm going to have to let my reach go deeper.
By letting the mana flow deeper into the ground, somewhere around 3 meters (9.8ft), I can feel the presence of other mana sources that move.
I think it might be the worms
"Dad, I think I found it." I turn to warn Richard and see him with his hands full of worms, while he has a hole in the ground made with his hands.
"What did you said?" He asks.
"Nothing important..."
Richard casts a spell that shapes the earth and turns it into a clay pot. I didn't know he could do that!
So his magic is Earth Magic. I should have already noticed when I saw him using it for the first time.
He puts the worms in the pot and picks up the fishing rod, standing up.
Taking a worm, he hooks it on the hook and throws it into the water.
Richard then sits down and just looks at nature.
So this is what fishing is like?
My grandmother from my old world told me that when I was nervous, I should go fishing. It must be because of the serenity of nature.
Well, I've never fished in my life, neither this life nor the last, so this might be a new experience.
After a few minutes, nothing happens—absolutely nothing...
I knew it would be time-consuming, but this is a test of patience.
I have to find something to do before I go crazy.
Suddenly, Richard pulls the rod up hard, and a medium-sized fish is caught on the hook!
Richard holds the fish and pulls out the hook that was stuck in its mouth.
The fish has a silver color all over its body. It has small eyes, and its fins are small. Its tail is divided in the middle, like that of a common fish.
My father, with his free hand, creates a basin of earth with magic that forms on the ground. He puts the fish there and creates a lid of earth to prevent the fish from escaping.
The way my father makes objects is even better than my control of magic. He must have done this so many times that it must be almost natural...
I'm interested in the way he makes these objects. I think he uses Controlled Magic to shape them.
Richard takes another worm that was in the jar, hooks it on the hook, and throws it into the river.
This might be the opportunity for me to train my earth magic.
Raising my hands toward the earth, I focus on molding the land's mana so that it moves.
I close my eyes to have greater concentration, and the mana begins to move upwards.
It's hard to shape something with just your mind, but I'm feeling like this is it....
After having a feeling that I made a simple pot of earth, I open my eyes, and see that I made something that wouldn't even be called a pot...
The earth is completely deformed, with some corners being more protruding. His form is very inconsistent. While the pot Richard made is cylindrical and practically perfect, mine looks like a giant piece of ginger...
But I think I can improve.
Learning magic is like having muscle memory. If you do it right, your body will remember how it did it and perform the same way.
After trying a few more times, I can't make much progress, but it's better than my first attempt.
The "pots" are more symmetrical and consistent in the cylinder shape, but I haven't been able to make a cavity for storage yet, so I'm making a dense block of earth. Maybe I can do that later.
Richard has already caught a few more fish and put them in the basin.
I'm already getting bored again...
"Hey dad, can you teach me how to fish?" I ask as he just stands there looking at the water.
Richard turns his head toward me, his eyes wide.
"Of course!" he responds cheerfully.
