Scarlet in Warderland

Dawn of Despair III

Dawn of Despair III

Jun 22, 2024

As Eva tastes the water, refreshing with every sip, she suddenly feels a small yet annoying electroshock run through her body, forcing her to scream, “OUCH!” It was Mike, who had pulled out an old GECKO adapter and plugged it directly into one of her spine receptors located externally on her combat suit. “Apologies, Scarlet. I know this method is deprecated, but I need to know your status.”

Eva takes a breath and refutes sarcastically, “Next time, take me out for dinner first.”

Mike stares at her while she gives him a disgruntled side glance. Dismissing her sarcasm, he continues, “I know we are in bad shape, Soldier, but we need you if we want to survive this. What is your mission capability?”

As Eva looks at his GECKO screen while taking another sip of water, she realizes her systems are degraded horribly, worse than expected. “Worse than I thought…” she whispers, seeing the final GECKO calculation showing her body at 43.76% efficiency, with multiple sustained damages being managed by her nano cells.

“I’m full of sunshine, SIR! Barely Mission Capable… but a soldier never abandons a mission halfway,” she says sarcastically. “But I could really use some Honey Juice if you’re still thinking of following through with the mission.” Honey Juice was a soldier’s joke term for a mix of chemicals prepared for enhanced soldiers, known as Alpha Compound. It contained emergency nano cells designed for immediate repair of damaged tissues, temporary enhancement of muscles, improved senses, and a high feeling of being unstoppable.

Mike grabs a bag and tosses it to Eva. “You actually feel like dying? There you go! You have three shots.”

As she catches it, she asks Thompson to assist her. “Hey Doc! Mind patching them up directly into my spine? And yes, yes… I know at 43 percent it’s high risk.”

Thompson walks over, grabbing the vials and facing Mike. “Really, Sir? Are you really going to sign off her death warrant just like that? How irresponsible can you—”

He gets cut off by Eva. “It’s okay, Doc. I got this… not my first time, and sure as hell it won’t be my last. So juice me up, Doc! I have a limited amount of time before I fall apart!”

As Doc sights in concern, he begins to injects the first vial directly to Eva’s spine receptor, as she looks up at the Lieutenant seriously, “Very well, Sir, shoot the new objective.” As the second vial is placed in her spine receptor Mike affirms their mission, “Objective has not changed. We are pushing through the line, taking down the heavy artillery to provide a safe ground for Delta to take over the laboratory. Comms have already been established by SPC Rivera while you were having your little nap.”

Eva smiles coldly. “Very well… let us engage the enemy on full rampage mode attack and take them down before they even have a moment to understand what is going on. With 43 percent operation on my part and half our team… okay, Sir, I like these odds. I can accept this challenge.”

Thompson did not agree with her decision, but he was never one to question her, even if placing these vials directly into the spines receptor was a dangerous move believed to be a horrible practice yet performed by those who were first-generation Cybernetic Soldiers. “Very well, I am only injecting two, no more, '' says Thompson as he injects another medical mix known as ‘The Doc Special’ used to help support recovery. “I injected them directly in but, if your body burns out, I will not be the one to let your husband know I hooked you up to burn inside out” Eva smirks at this comment and replies “I know you Doc, you would pull a kill switch on my suit before I even reach burnout” since she knows Doc would never let her burn from rampage mode.
