Llewellyn's return to the group was met with a mix of relief and apprehension.
Mira had just finished healing a young fairy soldier's broken arm when he arrived, gasping for air as if he had been running from something terrifying.
She could sense the fear in his demeanor, and her heart sank as he confirmed her worst fears without uttering a word.
"You were right to assume the worst," Llewellyn said, choosing his words carefully in front of his people to avoid causing panic. Mira and Zephyr exchanged dark glances, understanding the gravity of the situation.
Mira suggested calling a meeting of the clans, but Llewellyn shook his head.
"The bicentennial meeting of the clans is coming up soon anyway. I can bring it up then."
Mira was shocked to hear that the meeting was so close, and she asked when exactly it was, as this would be her first time officially attending.
Llewellyn looked slightly saddened by her question but answered nonetheless. "It will be held on the day of the Summer Solstice this time."
Deep in thought, Mira considered the significance of the bicentennial meeting.
It would be the perfect opportunity to suggest "The Convergence," an ancient method that the fairies typically only used when the clans were on the verge of annihilation.
This method allowed fairies of different clans to shift into a specific clan, changing their appearance and even their magic.
Mira's own mother had done a similar version of this technique when she shifted from being an Ice Fairy to a Forest Fairy, so she could be with the man she loved, Mira's father.
Lost in memories of her mother and father, Mira absentmindedly touched the white ends of her otherwise pink hair.
As a halfling of a Forest and Ice Fairy, she didn't have the pure pink or white hair of either clan.
Zephyr interrupted her thoughts, offering his hand. It was time to return to Cirreck now that the Fire Fairies had been saved.
Shaking off the sadness, Mira took his hand, eliciting a bashful smile from Zephyr.
Llewellyn, noticing the exchange, openly asked Zephyr, for all to hear, if he liked Mira.
Before Zephyr could answer, Mira cut in, telling Llewellyn with a sharp, disapproving look, that it was none of his business and that he shouldn't tease Zephyr, even if it happened to be true.
Llewellyn laughed, but the duo ignored him as Mira smiled at Zephyr, whispering that they could discuss it later.
Llewellyn smiled, patting them both on the back and practically ushered them out of the village, though he assured Mira she was always welcome back with a wink.
Mira laughed and threatened to sic Opal on him for his teasing, causing Llewellyn to freeze at the mention of his wife's name.
As they left, Mira and Zephyr could hear Opal berating Llewellyn for flirting with another woman, not only once, but twice.
Laughing at the situation, they made their way back to Cirreck, accompanied by the dragon soldiers.
