The end of the day is approaching. Marian and Robin haven't spoken at all. Marian is growing increasingly impatient wanting to know what happened between Robin and Aurora after they left Fatty Catty. Finally, Marian caves in and decides to take action. She walks over to Robin and pulls his headphones off his head. "ROBIN. I want to talk to you!"
Robin looks annoyed with Marian. He brushes down his black hair worried that her pulling at his headphones messed up his hair. Next, he looks at Marian and asks, "What about?" Perhaps Marian has something work-related she wants to address before the end of the day. They did just get assigned to work together on something. Maybe she needs information.
Marian smiles at Robin and then coyly says, "So, I saw you walk Aurora to her car on Friday. Did anything else happen?" Robin looks even more annoyed. Why in the world would Marian think this is an appropriate conversation to be having at work? His goal is to shut down this conversation quickly. "What else would happen?" Marian starts making a kissy kiss face along with smooching sounds effects. Marian is such a child sometimes. Robin rolls his eyes at this immature behavior. "You think I would kiss Aurora after our first conversation?"
Marian, "yes, yes I do. I think that would be totally normal and appropriate behavior when you like someone." Just as Marian finishes speaking, Graham walks into their office. He is about to say something to Robin and then realizes that Marian and Robin are talking about something. He doesn't want to barge in and interrupt their conversation, so he lets them finish before he starts talking. They all pause in silence for a minute not knowing who should speak next. When Graham decides he should say what he came to say, "I saw you walk Aurora to her car, way to go Robin!" He gives a fist pump into the air as he says this.
Robin looks annoyed with both Marian and Graham. "Why does it matter? it was the polite thing to do." And at this, Graham grabs Robin by the shoulders and shakes them slightly. Graham, "It matters because you have a little crush on her." Marian can't hold herself back when she realizes that Graham is here for the same information that she wants. Marian points at Graham excitedly. "Finally someone calls him out about it!!" Marian and Graham are now joining forces against Robin and he definitely doesn't like it. Both Graham and Marian are waiting for Robin to say more but Robin isn't budging.
Finally, Robin is frustrated enough with the two and says, "Do I really need to have this conversation now?" Graham powers forward without stopping. "So are you going to ask her out on a date now?" Robin has given up on trying to end the conversation early. Marian and Graham do not plan on stopping until they find out what they want to know. So for Robin, the clearest path to being left alone is to power through this conversation.
Robin confesses, "I might ask her out, but only after I get to know her better. She is definitely very interesting." Marian looks confused at what Robin just said. Marian asks, "I thought a date was for getting to know someone better. Not after you get to know someone..." Robin cuts in, "No, a date is when you are clearly both romantically interested in each other." With this, Marian looks at Robin like he is from the 19th century. Graham straight up starts laughing, "No a date is when someone is worth buying a dinner for."
The three look at each other. All taking in the fact that here were three people who had three very different opinions on what a date means. Robin refuses to accept to see a date the way Marian and Graham do. Both of them act on impulse rather than thought. Robin defends his opinion, "I think it would be strange for Aurora if I asked her out on a date right now. She might not want to go and then I would feel bad. I should get to know her better before I ask her out." Marian, "going on a date will help you get to know Aurora better. It is what it is." Robin to both Graham and Marian, "You are both wrong. If I asked her out now it would be too fast."
Graham puts his arm on Robin's shoulder and looks him in the eyes. He has been friends with Robin for a long time and knows how he can get. He tells his friend, "Not everything needs to move at the pace of a glacier melting in the snow. I am worried if you wait too long with Aurora that someone else might swoop her up." Marian chimes in, "Seriously, haven't you ever gone on a date with someone you didn't know?" Robin looks down a bit and says quietly, "I only went on dates with one person, my ex. I haven't been on one with anyone else."
Marian can't help herself as she gives a loud gasp, "WHAT?! What planet are you from? Do you even live in the 21st century?" Robin looks embarrassed, but Graham goes to assure his friend, "Robin, as your friend, I am just suggesting that you try going a little bit faster with Aurora." Marian can not be distracted from this new information she just learned about her office mate. "Can we please go back to the fact that you have only gone on dates with one person? How is that possible?" Robin explains further, "my ex-girlfriend and I were together a long time, and we knew each other for years before we started dating. I don't think that makes me an alien."
Graham again tries to defend Robin, "That was your first relationship. Not all relationships need to go that way." Marian is trying to figure out what she can say that might convince Robin to speed things up a little with Aurora. She tells him, "Yeah, your first relationship always seems so big until you get into a new relationship. You shouldn't expect something like that to happen every time you want to date someone." Graham starts nodding at what Marian just said. They clearly feel the same about this.
Robin is listening, but he is not convinced that his coworkers are right. He still wants to try doing things his own way. Not Marian's way and not Graham's way. Definitely not Graham's way. Robin shudders at the thought of dating like Graham does. Marian and Graham are waiting to see if Robin is going to say anything more. "I still want to get to know Aurora better before I ask her out. She told me that she is old-fashioned like me. I think that we have wasted a sufficient amount of time on this topic. I am done with it."
Robin goes to put his headphones back on when he looks at the clock. It's already after the time that he normally clocks out. He is not ready at all to leave yet. Now he has to quickly try to finish up what he was working on before he closes down his computer for the day. He looks at Graham and Marian and starts to get annoyed that they wasted so much of his time. Now he has to rush his work.
Marian is not done with the conversation even though Robin tries to shut it down. She also noticed it was after work hours so fine to continue talking. Robin is trying to get stuff finished at his computer while Marian continues to talk with him. Marian gets excited, "Robin, let me help you get Aurora. I have lots of dating experience that can help you. I just need to know a little more about your first relationship so I can understand how deep your damage runs." Robin prickles at the thought of taking Marian's dating advice. Nothing sounds worse to him than Marian telling him what to do. "I don't think I want your dating advice." Marian rebuttals with, "You don't want my advice but you need it. And I can help you with dating anyone. If you decide that Aurora isn't the one for you. We could get you hooked up on a dating app."
Graham pulls out his phone and shows Marian, "Oh, I am super into DAPP right now. It's more than just inappropriate pictures." Marian looks at Graham's phone to look at what his dating profile looks like. She tells him, "Really? Kris showed me a dickpic from that app just today at lunch. Maybe your profile picture just isn't scandalous enough." Graham looks at Marian with big eyes, "you think so? My Profile picture is me with my parent's dog." Marin laughs a little. "Oh, that's why. Girls who love dogs are not the same girls who send late night nudes." Graham's interest in piqued, "But what if I want late night nudies?" Marian continues, "We are already late tonight, let's go take a better picture of you." Graham is all excited and hands his phone completely over to Marian, "My life is in the love master's hands."
Graham and Marian walk off together. Robin is just now closing up his computer. He heard that whole chat about dating apps. It made him want to puke. That is definitely not what he is looking for. Marian's advice isn't going to get him the type of relationship he wants. He goes home for a quiet night alone.
