Sweeping all the dust away, Navien revealed black scorch marks on the ground. One area was blast-like in shape with a line of burn streaking down towards two cuffs bolted to the ground.
Navien stared at the place where his master had died. Navien once more doubted if he would ever be able to complete his mission. He was like that for a while before finally saying,
“They’re in the crates.”
Yorna frowned and walked over to the nearest one, using her ax and hammer she pried it open with a crack.
“Pantheon help us,” she said as she looked inside.
Inside were bodies, stacked like matchsticks, all burnt. Lilika shoke her head and turned back to Navien,
“Navien I- what’s that?” She started to say then, noticing something behind him.
In the crates behind them was a soft glow. Seeping in through the cracks a small ball of light came through. it floated lightly in the air, as it got closer the air around Navien and Lilika got colder.
Several more lights appeared in the crates, one came out from the hanging mouth of a corpse. All started to approach the party, from up above Drinial yelled,
“Oh hell no! Those are Will ‘o’ Wisps! Ghosts of the angry! don’t let them touch you!”
As he yelled this Yorna was wielding her hammer and ax at one of the wisps. It rose up as she looked away towards Drinial. Then as she looked back it quickly fell back down to her passing through her body. A blue glow of electricity jolted through her, as her armor now had a black scorch mark on either side of her where the wisp had passed through.
“Shit that hurts!”
The battle had started as Drinial yelled out magic words and a sudden blast of sound shattered near the two wisps approaching Makith. They flickered as the waves of sonic washed over them.
Yorna, angry at the damage she took tried to slash the wisp that had attacked her, she swung her ax, but the ax just went through it. though some of the light seemed to peel off it seemed unharmed.
Yorna grunted using her strength to swing her hammer down upon the Wisp, the hammer didn’t seem to do anything at first but as it tore through the wisp, its lights seemed to flicker as though it was torn asunder and it poofed out of existence.
Lilika turned to the one coming towards Navien and charged towards it wielding her ax she swung down upon it but all that caused was a slight flicker as her ax passed through.
Makith clutched his pendent and muttered something as fiery silver light descended upon the two wisps that had just suffered from Drinial’s attack, the light burning both of them away.
With the last wisp about to attack Navien cast a blade of shadow gliding to the last wisp cutting it straight down the middle as it faded into nothing.
“Is everyone all right?” Drinial called down.
“No! Damn twinkler jolted me,” Yorna said as Makith went over, removed her breastplate and started casting a prayer as his hands began glowing a silvery light and Yorna’s scorch marks started to fade. Drinial walked down the stairs into a curtained off area.
Navien felt Lilika put her hand on his shoulder and she gave him a soft smile.
The brief moment was broken when Drinial came running out of the curtains.
“I believe I found the office for the warehouse back there, we might be able to figure out who owns this location,” Drinial said as he met them.
Taking his advice they headed past the curtains to a little room built into the corner. Inside was a quaint desk and a simple cabinet. Navien searched the cabinets while Drinial and Lilika, Yorna and Makith searched the desk.
Eventually Yorna managed to find a ledger.
“Hmm let’s see here, radiant weaponry, blah blah blah, for use by ‘The Judgement’ Blah blah blah… Authorized by the Church of Soralis” Yorna recited eventually falling silent.
“A-Are your saying the Church of Soralis is behind this!?” Makith exclaimed in horror.
“It seems like they own this place, and they authorized the experimentation. I also managed to catch Damien, that Lightway guy talking with one of their officials so it would explain how they were notified of my presence so fast,” Navien stated.
“Well I suppose either way we should go investigate the church's hand in all this. I’m sorry for my outburst, I just always believed in the other churches from a young age, and now to have that taken away like candy from a babe… I’m sorry we should go,” Makith said.
Yorna nodded and they walked off together going deep into a conversation. Navien turned to Lilika and simply said,
“Well, here we go.”
