Robin is sitting at a table in a restaurant. He is looking around waiting for Marian and Graham to arrive. He is checking his phone to see if Aurora has texted him yet. Nothing there. Just as he puts his phone back down he looks up to see Marian. She is wearing overalls and a bright yellow shirt. She has her hair pulled back into a ponytail. She is normally not this casual at work. Robin thinks about how this is the first time he has met up with her on a non-work day. Marian had created a group chat for him and Graham. She insisted that the three of them go out for lunch on a Sunday. Robin is feeling slightly annoyed that he had to give up a weekend day for Marian. "I can't believe you are forcing me to meet up with you today."
Marian smiles and sits down. She was going to let things go, but Robin is absolutely terrible at communicating through text. "You did insist that I pay for your food if I wanted to hear about how things went with you and Aurora." Robin continues to look annoyed, "Didn't my text tell you everything you need to know?" Marian puts her hands up. What is Robin talking about? She complains, "Fine. That's really all I need to know? You know that I am more invested than that." Robin looks down a little embarrassed. He is not used to talking about this type of thing with other people. Even with his best friend, Graham, he doesn't normally talk about relationships. He is not used to the level of communication that Marian likes. Robin shrugs, "at least you know it wasn't a complete failure." Marian is annoyed with Robin now, "I want to hear more. I told Graham to meet up with us too. Where is he? I figured the whole squad could assemble." Robin quickly tries to shut this down, "I don't have a squad." Marian smirks at him. She loves making Robin uncomfortable. Something about his reaction always makes her want to push his buttons even harder. Marian shakes her head in disagreement, "You do! It's Graham and myself."
Almost on cue, Graham walks up to the table. Robin looks at Graham whom he hasn't seen in a few days. Graham currently has a shaggy beard and his hair on his head is growing out. Robin points at his face, "Graham you need a haircut. And a shave." Graham rubs his hand over his stubbly beard. He looks at Robin, "This is the first thing you saying to me today. It's no shave November. I decided to grow my hair out while I was at it too." Graham sits down next to Robin. Robin looks at his friend and wonders, "This sounds like an excuse for you to be lazy. Are you allowed to have long hair?" Graham looks puzzled, "allowed? It's not like I live with my parents." Robin shakes his head, "No, I mean about the dress code at work." Graham looks confused, "We have a dress code at work?" Marian is in awe of Graham. He does things without a care in the world. She looks at his beard. Marian points out, "I know that the women have a strict dress code at work. I assume it is the same for you guys. Graham, you just do things without worrying about losing your job?" Graham smiles, "I don't think work will ever fire me. I have done some pretty questionable stuff at work and I never got in trouble."
Marian shakes her head in agreement. By far, Graham is the least professional person in her office. On top of that, the pranks that he has played on Robin have been super inappropriate. Graham has a reputation at work. Robin watches Marian react this way and feels like she is just as bad as Graham. "Don't shake your head at him, Marian. You talk for the vast majority of your day at work." Marian looks at him with surprise. How could he compare her to Graham? She tries to defend herself, "Are you serious?! People come into our office to talk to me, it's not like I am seeking them out." Robin crosses his arms, "Yeah, but you always veer off-topic." Marian cannot believe that Robin has fired these shots about her character. "If you mean that I take an interest in their personal lives, then I guess you are correct." Marian looks at Robin with these big questioning eyes. She thinks her behavior at work is very appropriate. Robin looks at her with all seriousness. "I think that you could be a supervisor, a good one, if only you focused more on your work and less on the conversations you have at work." Marian knows that she can't deny that she is chatty. She has been told this her whole life. Graham looks at Robin and Marian and exclaims, "That was intense." Robin smirks back, "Hey, she is the one who called herself part of my squad. Your squad is always honest with you." Graham looks confused, "No, a squad goes out with you." Marian decides she needs to focus the conversation back on Robin. She decides to take the hit and move on.
Luckily for Marian, the friends are interrupted by the arrival of a server who wants to take their order. Marian looks through the menu quickly. Graham and Robin are both ready to order. Graham orders two cheeseburgers, fries, and a large chocolate shake. The server looks at Graham and he starts to flex a little. To justify his high-calorie lunch. Next, she turns to Robin. Robin orders a chicken Caesar salad and water. Finally, it's Marian's turn. She folds up the menu and orders a club sandwich, fries, and a soda. Robin winces a little at this. Marian can sense the judgment and turns it back on him, "Why did you order a salad and water when I am paying for your lunch? I thought you would go for a steak." Robin defends himself, "There is nothing wrong with being healthy. Your heart probably wishes you ordered a salad rather than those fries." Marian realizes that she has yet again been distracted from the real reason why they came to eat lunch here. "You can't distract me, tell me about your date with Aurora. Did you follow my advice?"
Robin looks at Marian, "No... well yes and no." He then starts counting things up on his fingers. He is trying to remember what Marian said. "I decided to let her buy her ticket, but I did open doors for her and walk her home." Marian smiles, "Do you like her more after you're 'not a date' date?" Robin nods and starts smiling happily, "she has been exceeding my expectations. She is smart. We have shared interests. She is very caring. She makes me laugh." Marian adds, "That's not hard to do. I make you laugh too." Robin looks at Marian, "More so, I laugh at you." Marian rolls her eyes. Robin is clearly in a great mood. He typically gives one-word answers to her questions. He listed four things about Aurora. He must really like her. Marian starts to settle back into the booth. She knew it, her advice was helpful.
The food arrives and before he dives into his burgers and shakes, Graham shakes his head in surprise, "You are lucky that a girl like Aurora is interested in you." Marian corrects Graham out of habit, "I think we can call Aurora a woman." Graham looks at Marian, "You know what I mean though." Marian looks at Robin instead, "So when are you seeing her again." At this Robin takes a pause. He looks down and his cheeks start to turn red. Robin gives away how he is feeling with his facial expressions. "We have plans for next weekend." Marian drops her sandwich. She is looking at Robin with awe. "Two weekends in a row?!" she asks all excitedly. She starts to lean over and pat him on the shoulder, "Robin, you SPEED DEMON!" She cannot believe that Robin is moving so quickly with Aurora. He is listening to her advice.
Robin starts to knot his hand nervously. He knows that Marian thinks this is normal, but this new territory for him. He explains, "I was worried that it was too fast, but she kept hinting at the fact that she was free next weekend. So I just ended up asking her out." Graham looks at his friend with renewed interest, "are you planning this date? If you are, I could help you research some things to do." Robin looks at Graham like he might take him up on his offer. Robin is out of his depth in this department. He continues, "I am planning this one. I am a little worried." Robin looks at Graham for assistance. Graham pulls out his cell phone and starts googling something. He then shakes his head no. It isn't something Robin would do. He looks at the next suggestion and shakes his head again, nope. What type of date would Robin even want to go on?
Marian senses that Graham is struggling and she decides to cut in. Marian knows Robin well enough that he doesn't like to go to many places. The simplest, easiest date that Robin could plan for Aurora is one that would take place at his house. Marian tries to convince Robin to follow her advice again. "Why don't you bring Aurora to your place? You could make her some dinner and then..." Marian stops talking and gives Robin a wink. Robin jumps up in his seat, "I can't believe you are suggesting that! We are not ready for that." Marian puts her hand firmly on the table. "Because it would work wonders for you. You don't want to get stuck waiting to make the first move. Nothing would make Aurora feel more unsure of your feelings than if you keep walking her home like a friend." Robin looks at Marian. Marian looks at Robin. The two have very different feelings about this topic. Marian's advice might be helpful, but Robin would never do something so forward before he was officially together with someone.
Robin defends himself, "asking her to come to my place sends a clear message. That I am only interested in one thing. And that's not what I am interested in." Marian defends her view, "Are you only interested in one thing?" Robin, "No!" Marian smirks, "exactly. Girls can tell right away what guys are expecting from them. You could never trigger anything for Aurora. She knows you are an old-fashioned guy." Robin takes a moment to finish his salad. Marian always wants to take things to the next level, but he doesn't work like that. Marian finishes her thought a minute later, "There is nothing to worry about my awkward little friend." Robin crosses his arms, "I am not awkward or little. I am taller than you." Graham chokes on his drink for a minute to stifle his laugh. Robin looks at him like he just committed the greatest betrayal. Graham wipes the food from his face and then shrugs. "You are a little awkward." At this, Graham gestures to all of Robin. Robin gets even more upset. He looks at Graham incredulously, "That's rich, coming from you." Graham starts to flex a little and he says, "I am not awkward I am cool." He continues to flex for a minute. Then he turns to Marian for support, "Right, Marian?" It's Marians turn to laugh. She laughs really hard. When she finally gets her laugh under control she responds, "I don't think you want me to answer that."
Finally the server brings the check for the food. Marian picks it up and pays it. She pays for Robin and Graham. She would normally have let Graham pay for his food, but she did just savagely roast him. Graham and Robin get up from the table and leave. Marian looks at her phone to see what time it is. It got so much later than she was expecting. Robin definitely has started opening up to her more. She snaps a picture of herself to send to Theo to let him know that she is on her way back to her place.
