“Thrown… for you?” Wish’s brows furrowed as her memories re-emerged and matched the person standing in front of her. “...Selia?” Her eyes widened as soon as she realized that she had come face to face to the person that she confronted at the party. This whole time, the person that she shared a memory with was one of the returning visitors of the Library. They passed each other on multiple occasions and she couldn’t recognize her due to her memory block. The world felt like it stopped for this very moment, waiting for Wish to snap out of her shock.
“Yeah?” The woman reacted to the name, proving that it was indeed her.
“Why are you viewing this memory over and over again?” The blonde had to ask, now being able to recall all the times the archeologist came into the Library. She wondered if the woman was also missing her memories.
“I’m trying to find out exactly what I did to upset this person. So much so that… I think she threatened me.” Selia said, walking towards a hologram version of Wish, who was just about to step up and confront her.
“I know who you are, and what you’re doing. I’m not going to let it happen.” the memory played out once more.
“Selia.” Wish spoke up, getting the woman to turn away from the party and look at her instead. “It’s me.”
At first, those words didn’t register. But the longer the archeologist stared at the attendant, things started to click in her mind. Suddenly, the blurry vision that could only focus on a few things suddenly broadened. She was able to take in more sights and sounds of her surroundings. Selia felt like she was awakened from a daydream, no longer in a blurred state; no longer a dazed dreamer.
“...Loco Wish?” The archeologist called out to the attendant, but caused her to react with discomfort.
“Wish. Just call me Wish.” the blonde said.
“R-right…Wish.” Selia corrected herself.
They looked at each other, minds clearer than ever. Both understood that there was more to be done. “We need an attendant.” Wish then suggested. If she were to experience the memory again with Selia and explore more aspects of this incident, they needed someone to take over her role of supervising the session. “Gwadewei-” She wanted to call out to her boss, but to her surprise, the grinning woman was already there, leaning against the doorframe of the exit. She had her arms crossed, smiling and winking at them.
“What a sight to comprehend; The sheep has found the fluffy wolf’s den.” Gwady chuckled lightly. The scene of the party was paused, the figures froze in place. It caused the blonde to roll her eyes, never really caring for the woman’s riddles and rhymes, nor her theatrics.
“Lo- Wish, what is that?” The archeologist asked as she swiftly hid behind Wish, intimidated by Gwady's presence. She stared with an alert gaze, and a stiff posture.
“This is Gwadeweido. My boss.” Wish introduced Selia to her, and stepped aside to allow the two to see each other clearly, not realizing that Selia was trying to hide herself.
“Good day. By the way, you smell like the flowers that grew near the bay.” Gwady leaned in with a bow and extended her hand to shake.
Not only did Selia step back from it, she pulled Wish to the side for a private whisper. “W-wish, is your boss like… a demon or something?” Her words were harsh as her anxiety leaked through her breath.
“I get that a lot. No need to feel distraught.” Gwady shrugged, pulling her hand away and took a step back herself to give them privacy.
The blonde was confused as to why Selia reacted to Gwadeweido like that. She put herself in the woman’s shoes and imagined herself seeing Gwady for the first time. “Just because she has sharp teeth, a wide smile and speaks in riddles… doesn’t mean she’s a demon.” She told the archeologist, though Wish herself wondered why Gwady would be speaking in such a silly way at the moment. She knew her boss could speak properly, and always thought that the rhymes were a way to tease people. Now is the time for clarity, not more confusion.
“Teeth?!” Selia hissed as her eyes were showing distraught. “That thing doesn’t even have a mouth! Are you sure this is safe?!”
Wish paused, at a loss at what Selia was saying. It wasn’t until she looked at Gwadeweido once more, did she recall a random conversation with Adeina about how people can see Gwady differently, depending on the situation and beliefs. “...What do you see?” She gestured back to her boss and asked Selia to answer.
“Umm… Well… I see a…” Selia struggled to explain, unsure on how to answer Wish.
The first word that came to mind was, inhuman. Standing in front of her was what seemed to be a hollow, purplish-red suit with a golden shine to the coat. Under the coat was a lighter colored vest with a top hat that sat on her shoulders. Where the woman’s head would be were leaves that spewed a black fog which also spilled from the ends of the sleeves where the formless gloves hung. The outfit rippled as something small but many scurried beneath the fabric. Tiny squeaking noises could be heard coming from within. It was like a nest of rats were piloting the suit.
Not wanting this nonsense to continue on further, the blonde tried to think of a solution to quickly quell the archeologist’s fear. “Can she borrow… my perspective? See what I see?” She suggested, not sure if that’s how things work for her boss.
“Well, of course, as long as you provide the source.” Gwady’s grin widened as she once again held her hand out, awaiting Selia to shake it.
Selia makes a few whimpering noises as she hesitantly extends to touch and grab the tip of Gwady’s white gloves. Upon contact, the woman’s looks morphed into a normal human being with sharp teeth and a wide grin. A purple shirt with a black tie, vest, and pants that matched her hair. There was also a hint of light blue within the vest, along with a strand of fabric extending down, almost like a tail.
“How do I look? Are you still shook?” the grinning woman gave her friendliest of smiles, now taking Selia’s hand with both of her own, shaking them gently.
“B-better.” the nervous woman replied, glancing up and down at the changed appearance, making sure there was nothing else that was weirdly looking.
“So you’re willing to help me with this?” Wish then spoke up to her boss, eager to continue the session and pick up where they’ve left off.
“A favor for a favor. A game to spot the danger. Be my observer and I will consider.” Now the grinning woman extended her hand out, wanting Wish to shake and take the deal.
Selia was about to stop Wish, but the blonde immediately shook it with glee. “Finally!” she exclaimed. “I was wondering when you’d ask!” There was no question in her mind that taking on this extra job was just another form of 'climbing the ladder' in the hierarchy she was in. And with this new responsibility, she was now a step higher than the rest of the attendants working in the Library. Old mindsets die hard, it seemed.
Selia watched with caution. To her, this all looks like a series of deals that she didn’t know the payment of. “What does she want?” She asked the blonde, just to be sure.
“Oh, Gwady wants me to play a ‘spot the difference’ kind of game, and report the results to her. I can do it after work, it’s nothing.” Wish said it nonchalantly, not even feeling the stress of the extra duties. It still worried the archeologist; But due to her not knowing how this magical space works, she kept herself quiet, trusting Wish for the time being.
“Good! Now, on to business. What is it that we need to witness?” Gwady exclaimed happily and with a snap of her fingers, the scene of the party continued to play.
